You're here in the LTE TV studio with us.
Today we are going to have some fun and learn some English.
My name is Nathan.
I am one of your teachers here on the show.
Now today we want to continue our ENTERTAINMENT topic.
This lesson is called "I Like the Book Better!"
I Like the Book Better!
So, Katie, what did you think of yesterday's lesson?
Well, that's an easy question.
I really enjoyed yesterday's lesson.
I love talking about books.
And I hope that you might like it, too.
Hi, everyone.
My name is Katie, and I'm your other teacher here on the show.
Well, in this lesson some of our friends have been reading, and we need to read,
too.
Find your Read It in your magazine and read along with Katie now.
Rob is tired.
He didn't sleep much last night.
He was reading Dreams of Alicia.
The first chapter was a little boring.
But then the story got interesting!
Jim wants to borrow Dreams of Alicia.
He means the book, not the movie.
Megan wants to talk about the story.
But she shouldn't spoil it for Jim!
He's looking forward to reading it.
Today we're going to keep learning about this book, Dreams of Alicia.
I wonder what kind of book it is, Katie.
Well, I think it's an exciting story.
Yesterday we heard that there is a hero and he's taking Alicia to his castle.
Stories with castles are always exciting.
Well, I think that's probably true.
And Rob didn't even sleep much last night.
Well, we'll see what else happens today.
But first let's learn our key words with Christina.
(Music).
Hello.
(Chinese).
Hey, Rob.
You look a little tired.
I am.
I didn't get much sleep last night.
Why not?
I had to finish Dreams of Alicia.
I couldn't stop!
It was too good.
How long is the book?
It's more than 500 pages long.
I read some during lunch yesterday.
Then I read at dinner.
And then I read after dinner...
Oh, so we start today in the Jungle Café.
And I think something's wrong with Rob.
He looks a little tired.
Well, he did not get much sleep last night.
And, and I think I know why.
He stayed up late reading Dreams of Alicia.
Remember yesterday he could not put the book down.
That's right.
So he must have stayed up late reading the book.
And that's why he didn't get much sleep.
Oh, that's right.
He did not want to stop reading.
The book is... too good.
Uh, Katie, are you OK?
You seem a little tired today, too.
Actually, I didn't sleep last night, either, Nathan.
I couldn't put my book down.
Katie! Well, after we finish this lesson you can go get some more sleep.
Oh, good idea.
Or I can go finish my book.
It's so good.
It's about this man, and he sees something happen...
Stop, Katie.
We need to talk about the lesson.
First we need to talk about all the different ways we can use the word "sleep."
And Christina will help us now.
(Chinese).
(Music).
So Rob did not get much sleep last night.
Or we can say... Rob did not sleep much last night.
And I think we can say the same about Katie today.
Well, now Jim asks a good question about the book.
How long is the book?
You want to know how many pages it is.
And it's more than 500 pages long.
That is a long book.
But we can use this question for other things, too.
Hmm. You can ask how long a movie is.
Or you can ask how long a class is.
When you ask it this way, you want to know how much time something will take.
That's right.
But right now we need to see what else there is in Conversation B.
Carol, here is Dreams of Alicia.
I just finished it.
Great! Megan told me a lot about it.
I can't wait to start it.
The first chapter is a little boring.
But keep reading!
OK, I'll remember that.
Did you see the movie yet?
No, not yet.
Should I see the movie first?
No. Read the book first.
(Music).
Well, Rob really could not put his book down.
He read it so fast.
He just finished it and he's giving it to Carol.
Yes. She wants to read it now.
And she can't wait to start it.
This is a great phrase to know.
If you "can't wait to do something," you are excited to do it.
And you will do it soon.
Carol can't wait to start the book, so she will read it soon.
I can't wait to go home and get a little sleep or... or read my book.
And I can't wait for Katie to stop talking about books.
I'm only joking, Katie.
Rob tells Carol a little about the book now.
Yes. In Dreams of Alicia, the first chapter is a little boring.
So it's not very interesting.
But don't worry, you should keep reading.
It will get better soon.
Hmm, some books are like that.
We can say that they "start slow" if they are a little boring at the beginning.
Books aren't exciting all the time.
That's right.
So Carol will remember that.
She will keep reading.
And Rob wants to know if Carol has seen the movie yet.
And she has not.
But should she see the movie yet?
I think...
No!
No, she should not see the movie yet.
Sorry, Nathan.
But this is important.
Carol should read the book first.
Well, if you think books are better than the movies, you will probably read the
book first.
But some people like movies better, so they might not even read the books.
Oh, that's true.
I just don't understand it.
Books are so interesting.
You learn more about the people and you know what they think.
It's special.
Well, everyone, I think that we should take a break now.
I think Katie might be getting a little more tired.
She probably needs a break, too.
So come back soon.
But we'll be back in a few minutes.
