Hi, everyone.
It's Saturday and it's time for some review.
I think it will be a lot of fun.
My name is Nathan.
I'm one of your teachers here on Let's Talk in English.
And I'm Katie.
Thanks for coming to see us today.
Before we start today's conversations,
let's talk about our lesson a little bit.
Good idea.
Maybe that will help you think about the key words we have learned.
Our AROUND TOWN lesson was called "A Table for Four."
Do you remember what it was about?
Going out to eat.
But sometimes places are crowded and you should call before you go.
Hmm, what key words can we use to talk about that?
Next, we had a HEALTH lesson.
A lot of people at LTE TV have allergies.
But what kind of allergies do they have?
Try to remember when you watch that lesson.
And then last, we had a special guest for our NATURE lesson.
What was she talking about?
It's a hobby that is fun and good for you.
There's a lot to do today.
So we should get started soon.
But Katie, which of these lessons was your favorite?
Oh. I think I like the gardening lesson the best.
I love flowers and I like to go outside and do things, so that's why I really
enjoyed learning about gardening.
Well, now let's go back and watch all of our conversations from this week again.
(Music).
Megan, can you call The Blue Fish for me?
Sure, Carol.
Do you want to order food?
No. I want to make a reservation.
I have an important guest today.
OK. So I can make a reservation for two at...
Make a reservation for three at 1:00.
Rob will come, too.
OK. I can call right now!
Hi, Megan.
What are you doing?
I'm looking for the phone number for The Blue Fish.
Here it is.
Ooh, I love The Blue Fish!
A lot of people like the food there.
Are you ordering lunch?
No. I'm reserving a table for Carol.
That's a good idea.
The Blue Fish is crowded at lunch.
Hi, Megan.
Can you help me?
Sure, Mark.
What can I do?
Can you change the reservation for The Blue Fish to four people?
I guess so.
Why?
I'm joining Carol, Rob and the guest for lunch.
Carol invited me.
OK.
I can try.
The restaurant is very busy today.
OK.
Thanks for trying, Megan.
(Music).
My guest is very late!
He called.
He's on his way.
We'll still be late for our reservation.
Perhaps the restaurant can hold the table.
I hope so.
But it's a very popular restaurant.
You can go to the restaurant now.
Your guest can meet you there.
That's a great idea.
Can you call him?
I'll do that right now.
I'm sorry I'm late.
That's OK.
We were late, too.
But we lost our reservation.
Oh, no.
Can we still get a table?
If we wait, we can probably get a table.
I don't see any open tables.
There's an open table.
But that is a table for two.
We're a party of four.
Then let's eat at the Jungle Café.
The Blue Fish has good food,
but so does the Jungle Café.
And the Jungle Café has great service, too!
You're right.
We're very lucky.
We can always enjoy some great food here.
They have great desserts, too.
They have apple pie, chocolate pie...
You're still hungry?
He's always hungry.
Then let's eat some dessert!
(Music).
Hi, Rob. What are you eating?
A peanut butter sandwich.
Do you want some?
Oh, no, Rob.
I can't eat peanuts.
Why not?
I'm allergic to peanuts.
That's too bad.
Yes. I have to be careful.
What happens when you eat something with peanuts in it?
I can't breathe very well.
I have to take medicine.
Hey, Jim.
Did you try the new ice cream place down the street?
No. I can't eat ice cream.
Why not?
I'm allergic to milk.
You can't have anything with milk in it?
No. If I do, I feel really sick.
And my stomach really hurts.
That sounds terrible.
It is.
So I don't eat anything with milk in it.
Oh, look. There's a bee.
Where?
Is it near me?
No. It's near the window.
Are you afraid of bees?
Yes! I'm very allergic to bee stings.
Very allergic?
Yes. Last time I got a bee sting,
I had to go to the hospital.
I couldn't breathe!
That is bad.
OK, I'll catch the bee and put it outside.
(Music).
Excuse me.
You're sneezing a lot today, Carol.
I know.
I have allergies.
They're always bad in the spring.
What are you allergic to?
I'm allergic to some kinds of flowers.
Lots of trees have flowers on them now.
I know.
I think that's why I'm sneezing.
Do you just sneeze?
No, my eyes itch, too.
What can you do for your allergies?
I take allergy medicine.
But it makes my nose hurt.
That's not good.
No. But it's better than sneezing all the time!
I've heard a hot shower at night helps.
It does. It rinses the pollen off my skin and hair.
So you don't sneeze.
Yes. Then I can sleep and breathe better.
Have you tried rinsing your eyes?
Oh, yes.
When my eyes really itch, I rinse them with cool water.
Then they feel better for a little while.
I know something else that might help.
What?
Eating something spicy.
Then you'll be able to breathe!
Because my nose will run.
That's right!
Maybe I should try that!
(Music).
Today we're talking about gardens.
Ms. Petunia Petalfield is here to tell us about them!
I'm glad to be here!
Gardening is such a fun hobby!
And it's good for you!
How is it good for you?
Well, digging and moving dirt and plants is good exercise.
And you can grow healthy fruits and vegetables in a garden.
That's right!
I had a plant once.
But it died.
What did I do wrong?
Maybe you didn't water it enough.
Or maybe you watered it too much.
Or maybe it didn't get enough sunlight.
Maybe.
Plants need water and sunlight to grow.
But different plants need different amounts of those things.
So how do you know?
Learn about your plants first.
That helps!
I live in an apartment.
I don't have much space for a garden.
What can I do?
Keep a small garden on your balcony or near a window.
You can grow flowers or herbs.
Those will make my apartment smell nice.
And they look nice, too!
Thanks for your advice, Ms. Petalfield.
I'll buy some seeds and start my garden this week!
(Music).
Reviews really help me remember a lot of things.
There are so many key words and phrases that we learn,
it's hard to remember them all after just one lesson.
Oh, I know.
If you want to learn something, you need to look at it again and again.
Review and practice are very important.
But now it's question time.
Let's see what you can remember.
First, I have a picture for our AROUND TOWN lesson.
Use a key word to say where these people are.
Oh. Oh, that is an important key word - restaurant.
We use this word all the time.
Very good.
But now I have another key word question about this picture.
What are these people sitting at?
The answer is another common key word.
Hmm. And that key word is "table."
When you go to restaurants, you sit at a table.
Great!
Now one last key word question.
There are three people at the table, so we can call them a (blank) of three.
What key word goes in the blank?
Oh, that's a little harder. Hmm.
I know!
It sounds kind of funny, but you can call them a party of three.
Party is the key word.
Wow. You know it all, Katie.
Now I think you should ask me some questions.
OK.
I just have one question for you.
Only one?
But I asked you three questions.
Well, it's a big question, Nathan.
What are our friends allergic to at LTE TV?
Oh. Uh... I'll try to remember.
Uh, Carol is allergic to some kinds of flowers.
Um, Jim is allergic to milk.
Oh, and, and Susie is allergic to peanuts.
And I think there's one more.
Yes. Someone else is allergic...
Don't... don't tell me.
Mark is allergic to bees!
That's right.
Did you remember them all, too, friends?
Now I think right now it's a good time for a break.
We'll be right back after this.
