Our topic is still FASHION.
So we have part two of our lesson - Spring Fashion.
Spring Fashion.
Nathan, did you learn a lot about fashion yesterday?
I did learn some things about fashion, especially about spring colors.
We learned what bright colors were and what pale or light colors were, too.
My name is Nathan, and I'm so glad to be here with you today.
OK, everyone, it's time to start the lesson.

Fashion design is a fun job!
Many talented people create and sew cool new designs for dresses, shirts and
more.
How do they know what to design?
That depends on the time of year, and what everyone else is wearing.
This year white collar shirts and flower patterns are in style.
Well, yesterday we learned about spring fashion, and today we'll learn about
making clothes.
Yes. I think today we'll talk to someone special.
And we'll find out more about making great looking clothes.
That's right.
Designing clothes is a fun job.
I think it would be interesting every day.
But there are a lot of different things you have to think about when you make
clothes.
So let's get started by learning our key words with Christina first.

Today we are talking about fashion.
And we have a fashion expert here with us.
Please help me welcome Ms. Fiona Fashion!
Today Fiona Fashion will teach us about fashion design!
That's right, Rob.
I love designing clothes.
And I often wear my designs!
Did you design the clothes you're wearing now?
I did!
You're very talented.
Can you also sew?
Of course!
I learned to sew when I was very young.
Do you sew a lot for your job?
Yes. Sewing is a fun way to create something!

And she is going to teach us about fashion design.
What's fashion design?
It's making clothes.
When you design something, you make it.
That's a really important word.
So we're going to learn a little more about it from Christina.

You can design buildings.
You can design things on a computer.
Or you can design clothes like Fiona.
And Fiona is very talented.
She wears her own designs.
That's really cool.

You can use today's Calendar Phrase to tell that person how talented they are.
Like this: Hey, Nathan, I think you're a really talented singer and writer.

Well, people are all talented at different things.
Everyone has different talents.
So think about this.
What are you talented at?
What is your talent?
Well, that is a great thing to think about.
Now, friends, do you know how to sew?
That's when you make clothes using a needle and thread.
Fiona knows how to do this.
She learned how to sew when she was very young.
All fashion designers should know how to do that.
And that's a great sentence for you to learn now.
It's today's Use It sentence.

Hi, friends, let's look at the pattern:
I learned to do something when I was something.
For example:
I learned to bake when I was a teenager.
Or... I learned to speak English when I was in the U.S.
Now it's your turn to use it.

I learned to play tennis when I was thirteen years old.
Nathan, do you want to practice this sentence?
Hmm. OK, Katie.
I learned to swim when I was little.
But we learned today that Fiona learned to sew when she was very young.
Sewing is a good activity to learn.
Yes. If you sew, you can make or create different things.
You can create beautiful clothes or even make a blanket.
Those are all great things to be able to make.
But now we need to move on to Conversation B.
Where do you get ideas for your clothes?
That depends on the season, and what's in style.
I read a lot of fashion magazines.
Then I try lots of different designs.
What is your favorite thing to design for spring?
For spring, I like to design fun dresses and hats.
Your clothes help people look their best!

Before you can start to work on a project, you need one thing.
Do you know what that is, Katie?
Hmm, pens and paper and pencils?
Well, that's... that's true.
But not exactly right.
Before you start a project, you need an idea.
You need to know exactly what you want to do.
Oh, that's right.
Ideas are important.
They give you something to think about and then you can start to plan your
project.
I think that's why Rob asks Fiona where she gets her idea for clothes.
Have you ever created something, friends?
Where did you get your ideas?
Sometimes I get ideas for stories by reading a lot of books or by looking at
pictures of something.
But Fiona gets her ideas from different places.
One thing she thinks about is the season.
Is it hot or cold outside?
Which colors are good for that season?
She also thinks about what kinds of clothes are in style.
Remember, clothes that are in style are clothes that a lot of people want to
wear.
So she does not want to make clothes that are not in style.
That's right.
And one other place she gets her ideas is from fashion magazines.
Those magazines have a lot of great ideas.
Yes. So she can look at some pictures of clothes and decide what she likes and
what she does not like.
And then she can create her own clothes.
That's a really good idea.
Well, Rob says something else about Fiona.
He says her clothes help people look their best.
Now "look your best" is a great phrase to use and Christina will tell you about
it now.
(Chinese).
What are some ways that you can look your best?
You can make sure that your clothes are clean and look nice.
Your clothes don't have to be expensive.
But they should at least be neat and clean.
That's right.
It's important to look your best when you go to work or if you have an
interview.
That's right.
