Welcome back, everyone.
If you are just joining us, today we have a SPORTS lesson.
And it's about one really fun sport.
This is the time of year to play some baseball.
That's right.
And whenever you start to play baseball, you need to get ready.
You need to make sure that you have everything you need, like a bat, your glove
and a baseball.
So let's see what else you might need in Conversation C.
OK.
We're all ready for the game tomorrow.
Are you sure?
Yes. I have baseball bats, gloves and a baseball.
And you have uniforms!
Wow. You even have baseball caps!
That's not all we need, though.
What else do we need?
We need practice.
Practice.
I wasn't thinking about that.
Did you know what Mark was going to say?
Well, I thought he was going to talk about something else to wear or to use.
But practice is something that you do.
And it's something that you need to do.
But is that all you need?
Hmm. Why don't we ask Christina about that phrase?
(Chinese).
Well, that's great to know.
So, Nathan, have we learned all we need for today?
No, no, no, Katie.
There's still more to learn.
We still need to look at the other things that the baseball team needs for their
game.
Oh, that's right.
I know that they will need gloves... or should I say baseball gloves?
Oh. That is a good question.
Baseball gloves are very different from other gloves.
But we already know that we're talking about baseball, so it's OK to just say
gloves.
OK.
So they have baseball gloves.
They need bats, too.
Oh, but I should probably say baseball bats, right?
Because these are also called bats.
Oh. Right.
Bat like in Batman.
But we still know what you mean when you just say bats, Katie.
So I think it's OK if you just say bats.
OK. Great!
Well, next, they can't play games if they don't have a ball.
Or... or should I say...
We know what you mean, Katie.
But you can say baseball if you want.
You can use that word for the sport or just for the ball.
Oh, so I don't need to say baseball ball?
No. I guess that would be silly.
Yes. It would be silly.
But what else do we need?
Oh. I know.
We need to practice today's key words together.
Why don't you say them with...
Wait... Katie. We... we do need to practice our key words.
But we still need to learn today's Calendar Phrase.
What else do we need?
What else do we need?
(Chinese).
Let's play baseball.
OK. We have a ball.
What else do we need?
We have a bat.
What else do we need?
We need players.
What else do we need?
We need practice.
Yeah.
What else do we need?
What else do we need?
(Chinese).
OK. Now it's finally time for our key words.
Friends, say them with us so that you can review them.
And the first key word is:
baseball.
baseball.
I like to play baseball.
catch.
catch.
You can catch the ball.
bat.
bat.
I'll hold the baseball bat.
glove.
glove.
You can catch the ball with the glove.
cap.
cap.
Put on your baseball cap.
Those are all of today's key words.
There are so many things that you can use for baseball.
I hope that you can remember all of them.
Well, now it's time for us to continue our review.
Why don't we look back at today's conversations together?
Hey, guys.
What are you doing?
We're getting ready for the baseball game!
What baseball game?
Every year we play baseball against the Talk Time radio station.
And every year they win!
This year's game is tomorrow.
Wow. Can I play, too?
Of course.
Everyone at the station can play.
We need help if we want to win.
So you like baseball, Jim?
I love baseball, but I can't catch very well.
That's OK.
You don't have to be really good to play.
This game is just for fun.
Fun?
Losing is not fun!
We lose every year.
Oh, Mark.
Be a good sport.
OK.
Do you have a baseball glove, Jim?
No, I don't.
Then you can use this one.
OK. We're all ready for the game tomorrow.
Are you sure?
Yes. I have baseball bats, gloves and a baseball.
And you have uniforms!
Wow. You even have baseball caps!
That's not all we need, though.
What else do we need?
We need practice.
(Music).
Hey, Monkey Man.
Let's play baseball.
Uh, Ginger, you can't play baseball.
Why not?
Because you're a monkey.
Well, you never know until you try.
Ginger, you don't know how to play baseball.
Yes, I do.
When the ball comes, I catch it.
Do you really know how to catch a ball?
Well, I don't know.
But I can catch a cold.
But can you catch a baseball?
I can try. Throw me the ball.
OK. Are you ready?
Yeah. You throw it, I'll catch it.
All right. One, two, three, catch!
Hey, look!
I did it. I caught the ball.
Good job, Ginger.
I'm so surprised.
Yeah. Me, too.
You caught the ball.
Strike two.
OK, OK, OK.
Let's try it again.
Come on.
Strike three.
I almost hit the ball.
So close.
Oh. Hey, there.
My name is Jeremy.
And I am a professional baseball player.
A long time ago, I was the best baseball player in the country.
I was the best baseball player on my team.
Sometimes I would win games because I will get two, maybe three home runs in a
game.
Every baseball player wants to get a home run.
Playing professional baseball is a lot of fun to watch.
But a baseball player, like me, needs to practice and keep his body healthy
every day.
Sometimes a baseball player can also get hurt in a game.
That's not fun.
Maybe I will need to stop playing baseball and do something else.
Hey, then I could become a professional baseball coach.
I'm a professional baseball player, and this is my job.
Well, I think we have talked enough about baseball for today.
Now you're all ready to go out and play some baseball.
Well, if there's good weather outside.
If it's raining or something, you probably should not play baseball.
Yeah. Yeah, I... I guess that's right.
But if the sun is shining, you can go out and play.
You can probably even play in English.
Play in... play in English?
You don't play sports in English or any language, Nathan.
OK. But you can try to use some of the things you learned today when you play.
That's what I mean.
Well, that's all the time that we have for today.
We hope that you learned a lot of useful things and that we can see you next
time right here on...
Let's Talk in English.
Goodbye.
(Music).
