You're watching Let's Talk in English.
It's a great day here at the LTE TV studios.
My name is Katie, and we're very glad that you joined us for our lesson today.
Our topic is still SHOPPING.
And we have part two of our lesson - What a Great Sale!
What a Great Sale!
Now, Nathan, what is your favorite kind of sale?
Hmm. Oh. I can think of one really great kind of sale.
There are buy 1 get 1 free sales.
You can buy one thing and get another thing free.
My name is Nathan, everyone.
It's great to be here with you today.
All right, everyone, we need to get started with our lesson.
So find your magazine and turn to today's Read It.
You can read it with Nathan right now.
Susie tells Megan about the terrific cereal sale at Sam's Supermarket.
Nothing else is on sale, though.
Megan wants to go to the sale.
She and Mark go shopping there the next day.
It is a great sale.
But a lady hits Mark with a shopping cart.
They have to watch out.
Wow.
Well, everyone at LTE TV is really excited about cereal this lesson.
Now Susie tells Megan about the terrific sale.
Now because Megan wants to go to the sale, too, I think people like to eat
cereal a lot.
It is a good breakfast food.
That's true.
And Mark and Megan go buy cereal now.
That's good because there were a lot of people at the sale yesterday.
They need to go before the store runs out of cereal.
And we need to go right now, too, to talk to our word lady.
(Chinese).
Wow, Susie.
You went shopping.
Yes. I went to the cereal sales at Sam's Supermarket.
Is cereal the only thing on sale?
Yes. But every kind is only two dollars a box!
That's a good deal.
I eat a lot of cereal.
Maybe I'll go after work.
You can't.
Why not?
The sale is today from 9 to 1 and tomorrow from 9 to 1.
So Susie has just gotten back to the office.
She says that she went to the cereal sale at Sam's Supermarket.
Hey. Let's learn about that sentence.
I went to the (blank) at some place.
I went to the movie at the theater.
I went to the game at the park.
I went to the lesson at the school.
Well, friends, you can practice that sentence.
And then Megan asks a great question.
Is cereal the only thing on sale?
Oh. That is a great question.
But Christina wants to talk to you about it right now, too.
(Chinese).
The cereal is the only thing at the supermarket on sale.
There's nothing else there that's on sale.
But that's OK because every kind of cereal is only two dollars for a box.
That's really cheap.
But that's also a good deal, just like Megan says.
Now what does a good deal mean, Katie?
Well, a good deal means that you can save some money on something.
You save money by buying cheap things or by not buying a lot of things.
So at a sale, you find good deals.
If you find food that is only a few dollars, that's a good deal.
If you find something expensive that is on sale, that is a good deal, too.
And it's a good deal for Megan because she eats a lot of cereal.
So she can save some money now by buying a lot of cereal.
Hmm. So she says, "Maybe I'll go after work." Let's practice this sentence.
Maybe I will do something later.
Maybe I will visit my family after Christmas.
Or maybe I will run in the race.
Maybe I will study for my test after work.
Or maybe I will travel after college.
And maybe we will go to Conversation B right now.
Oh, only joking.
Not maybe, we will.
Hey, Mark!
What are you doing tomorrow at lunch?
Eating lunch, what else?
I know that.
But do you want to go to a sale?
What kind of sale?
A terrific cereal sale.
Every kind of cereal is only two dollars a box!
Wow, that is terrific.
Sure! Let's go during lunch tomorrow.
I love cereal.
Me, too.
And I love sales!
(Music).
Mark starts Conversation B with a great question.
What are you doing tomorrow at lunch?
What are you doing tomorrow at some time?
So what are you doing tomorrow at 10 a.m.?
Katie, what are you doing tomorrow at 3 p.m.?
Uh, Nathan, I'll be working, what else?
It's the same every day.
That's the right answer.
You said "What else?" just like Mark did.
Now, friends, saying "What else?" here is like saying "What else would I do?".
That's right.
At 3 p.m. I am always at work.
So what else would I do? Nothing.
And at lunchtime, what else would Mark do?
Nothing.
He's always eating lunch then.
Now Megan wants to know if Mark wants to go to the sale with her.
And he says, "What kind of sale is it?" Oh. That is our Use It sentence today.
We'll be right back.
No. Nathan, that's not right.
That was our Use It sentence yesterday, remember?
Uh, oh. You're right.
Uh, sorry. We have not learned our Use It sentence yet for today.
But we can keep practicing that sentence.
What kind of sale is it?
It's a terrific cereal sale.
What does terrific mean?
Oh. I know that.
It means really, really good.
Maybe you are really smart.
I think you would be a terrific student.
Or are you good at sports?
Maybe you're a terrific athlete.
I have some friends who are terrific cooks.
All the food that they make is so good.
Nathan, are you terrific at anything?
Well, I do think I'm a pretty terrific whistler.
It's a gift.
No. So why is this a terrific sale?
Because the cereal is only two dollars.
Remember, that's a great deal because it's so cheap.
And Mark thinks it's terrific, too.
He wants to go to the sale, so he says, "Let's go during lunch tomorrow." That
is a good sentence to practice.
So maybe you can at home.
Or... Let's go tomorrow before school.
But they will go tomorrow during lunch, and that's good because Megan loves
sales.
And hey, today that is our Calendar Phrase.
I love sales.
I love sales.
(Chinese).
Hats are on sale.
I love sales.
Shoes are on sale.
I love sales.
Shirts are on sale.
I love sales.
But I need more money.
I hate sales.
I love sales.
I love sales.
(Chinese).
What do you love?
I love something, and that's taking a break.
We'll be back very soon.
(Music).
