Welcome to the show, everyone.
We're going to have some fun today learning English together.
My name is Nathan, and it's great to be learning together with you.
Now today we have a SHOPPING lesson for you called What a Great Sale!
What a Great Sale!
Katie, where do you often find sales?
Oh. Well, I usually find sales at places where they sell clothes or food.
Those places have a lot of sales.
Hi, everyone.
My name is Katie, and I'm your other teacher here on the show.
We're very glad that you joined us today.
And now it's time to practice our reading together.
We can look at today's Read It in our LTE magazine.
Read it with Katie right now.
Sam's Supermarket is having a cereal sale.
Each box is only two dollars!
Rob can't go, but Susie can.
Susie can buy strawberry cereal and chocolate cereal for Rob.
Those are his favorite kinds.
At the store, Susie finds the cereal in aisle 12.
She buys some for Rob.
But she says she did not.
Is she joking?
Yes! It's April Fool's Day!
Katie, I almost forgot to tell you.
Did you hear the big news for today?
Uh, no, Nathan.
What news?
Don't we need to teach a lesson?
No. That is the news.
There's no lesson today.
We don't need to teach.
What? Are you serious? What about all our students?
Oh, it... it's OK.
We'll have a lesson tomorrow.
So, go on.
See you tomorrow, Katie.
Oh. OK. Well, see you later.
April Fool's, Katie!
We still have a lesson.
But it's April Fool's Day.
Sorry.
Now it's time to practice our key words with our word lady, Christina.
(Chinese).
Susie, there's a great sale at Sam's Supermarket!
Sale?
What kind of sale is it?
It's a cereal sale.
It is today from 9 to 1 and tomorrow from 9 to 1.
Are you going?
No. I can't go.
But I need cereal.
OK. I can go at lunchtime.
What do you want?
I want these two kinds.
So there is a sale at Sam's Supermarket.
Katie, what do you think make sales great?
Oh, that is a good question.
I think a sale is great when things that I like or want to buy are the things on
sale, because then they're really cheap.
Maybe that's why Rob thinks it's a great sale, too.
Before we find out more about it, let's look at the Use It sentence that Susie
just used.
(Music).
Hello, friends.
Today on Use It, we're going to talk about the pattern:
What kind of something is it?
For example, you could ask: What kind of dog is it?
Or... What kind of car is it?
Friends, don't be afraid to use it.
(Music).
Thanks, Elizabeth.
So what kind of sale is it?
It's a cereal sale.
Now, Nathan, what time of day do you usually eat cereal?
Oh. For breakfast.
Cereal is a kind of breakfast food that some people eat.
You eat it with milk.
That's right.
And you can buy a lot of different kinds of cereal at the supermarket.
But they have to hurry.
This sale is short.
Oh, that's right.
Conversation A says the sale is from this morning 9 to 1 and tomorrow morning 9
to 1.
So the sale is for 4 hours for two days.
Yes. And that is why Rob can't go to the sale.
He has to work.
But Susie can go.
So she will go at lunchtime.
Many times in English we add the word "time" to say what we do at that time.
That's right.
So we have the word dinnertime.
That's the time that we eat dinner.
Or playtime, that's the time to play.
Or... is it classtime?
That's when it's time to learn.
So let's learn some more English in Conversation B right now.
OK, Rob wants five boxes of strawberry cereal.
But where are they?
I can ask someone.
Excuse me, sir!
Yes? Can I help you?
I'm looking for strawberry cereal.
Where is it?
You can find it on aisle 12.
Thank you.
I also need chocolate cereal.
That is on aisle 12, too.
Thank you.
This cereal sale is great!
So what kinds of cereal does Rob want?
One kind that he wants is strawberry cereal.
Mmm, strawberries taste so delicious.
Hmm. What other kinds of strawberry food can you think of?
I can think of strawberry ice cream.
Katie, can you think of anything?
Ooh, yes. I can think of strawberry cake.
That's another good kind of strawberry food.
But Rob wants strawberry cereal.
I don't think I've eaten that before.
I wonder if it's good.
Oh, it has to be good.
It's made of strawberries, I mean...
I think, I think Katie has forgotten that we are teaching right now.
Um, Katie, let's get back to the lesson.
Oops. Sorry, everyone.
I really like strawberries.
But anyway, Rob wants five boxes of cereal.
That is a lot of strawberry cereal.
And that's something that Christina needs to tell you about right now.
(Chinese).
Rob needs five boxes of this cereal.
But there is a problem.
Susie cannot find the cereal.
But she can ask someone.
So she says, "Excuse me, sir!" That is a useful sentence, friends.
If you need to talk to someone at a store or ask for help, you can say to them
"excuse me" before you speak.
It's very polite.
Right.
Maybe you need to ask your teacher a question.
You can go to their desk and say "excuse me" to make sure that they are not
busy.
Or if you hit someone when you are walking on the street, you can say "excuse
me" there, too.
Both ways are very nice.
Now Susie knows where the strawberry cereal is.
It's on aisle 12.
And the chocolate cereal is there, too.
And aisle is a good word to know.
It's a place that you walk down in a store, and it's where all the things that
you can buy are.
That's right.
Well, that's all our time for now.
Let's take a break.
But come back reallysoon.
