Hello, everybody.
Thanks for joining us today for some English fun on Let's Talk in English.
My name is Nathan.
I'm one of your teachers here.
Today we have a new topic for you.
HOME.
And our lesson is called I Don't Like Chores!
I Don't Like Chores!
Well, what are some chores that you do, Katie?
Well, every morning I make my bed.
That's one chore.
And I always try to clean my room and do the dishes at night.
Those are some other chores.
Hi, everyone.
My name is Katie, and I'm your other teacher here on the show.
Thanks for joining us today.
Well, let's practice our reading together now.
Find today's Read It in your LTE magazine.
You can read along with Katie right now.
Rob is wearing a pink shirt.
He made a mistake with his laundry.
He washed a red shirt with some white clothes.
Then he put it in the dryer.
The shirt is a little tight now!
Rob doesn't like chores.
But some chores are nice.
Susie walks her dog every day.
It's one of her daily chores.
She likes this chore!
Chores are something that everybody does.
We all have to clean our houses and wash our clothes.
That's true.
Chores are important because they keep your house neat and clean.
Or they keep your clothes clean and smelling nice.
Everybody likes clean clothes and a clean house, don't you think, Katie?
Well, of course.
And everybody also likes learning key words from Christina.
So let's go to her now.
(Chinese).
Good morning, Rob.
Is that a new shirt?
No, Carol.
It's not a new shirt.
It's very... pink.
I know.
I washed my clothes yesterday.
I made a mistake.
What did you do?
I washed a red shirt with some white clothes.
Now my white clothes are pink!
Oh, no!
I'm embarrassed.
We start our lesson today with a question from Carol.
She wants to know if Rob is wearing a new shirt.
That's a nice question.
If you see a friend and you like what they are wearing, you can say something
like that.
You can ask: Is that a new dress? It looks nice.
That's right.
But this isn't a new shirt that Rob has.
He made a mistake.
Rob... Wait, made a mistake?
I know that phrase from somewhere.
Why is it important?
Ooh, Nathan, I know!
It's important because it is today's Calendar Phrase.
I made a mistake.
I made a mistake.
(Chinese).
Oh, no.
Is something wrong?
I made a mistake.
Well, that's OK.
I made a mistake.
Don't worry.
Everybody makes mistakes.
I made a mistake.
What mistake?
I put soap in your soup.
You what?! Ew.
Sorry.
I made a mistake.
I made a mistake.
(Chinese).
So Rob made a mistake.
He did something wrong.
What was his mistake, Katie?
Well, he washed a red shirt with white clothes, and now his white clothes are
pink.
Oh, that is a bad mistake.
Poor Rob.
Now he has to wear a lot of pink clothes.
Friends, when you make a mistake, you do something wrong.
Have you made a mistake before?
Maybe you made a mistake on your homework.
I've made mistakes before at my work.
Well, people often make mistakes.
But it's OK.
If you make a mistake, you can try to fix it or learn from it.
That's right.
It's good to learn from your mistakes.
Right now Christina also wants to talk to you more about this phrase "make a
mistake," so let's go to her now.
(Chinese).
Well, when you do something wrong, when you make a mistake, we say you have to
live with your mistake.
Rob will have to wear a lot of pink clothes.
And he's embarrassed.
He feels bad.
Oh. I get embarrassed sometimes when I make mistakes, too.
I don't want other people to see my mistakes.
But it's OK.
I think that Rob can try to fix his mistake.
Right now, friends, we need to see what else there is to learn in Conversation B
and see if Rob can fix his mistake.
Let's go there now.
Nice shirt, Rob.
It looks... tight.
I know, I know.
What happened?
I put it in the dryer.
It's also pink!
It's pretty!
Ha ha.
Very funny.
I really don't like laundry.
I don't like any chores!
Go to the store.
You can buy a new shirt.
OK. So now we see Megan and Rob in Conversation B.
Megan says that Rob's shirt looks tight.
And that is a word that Christina wants to talk to you all about right now.
(Chinese).
Right.
So you say tight even though it is spelled T-I-G-H-T.
Now what are some other words that sound like this, Katie?
Well, I can think of a few.
There's the word light.
It is spelled L-I-G-H-T.
And there is the word night.
It's spelled N-I-G-H-T.
Are there any others, Nathan?
Hmm, there might be.
Oh... might.
M-I-G-H-T.
Those words all sound like tight.
And they are spelled almost the same way.
That's right.
So how did Rob make this mistake with his shirt?
He put his shirt in the dryer.
And now it's a little tight and a little too small.
Sometimes we use a dryer to dry our clothes after we wash them.
But sometimes clothes get smaller in the dryer.
So you can't always put them in the dryer.
Ugh, that's true.
I did that one time.
I put some of my pants in the dryer and they got so little that I had to give
them to my little sister.
I... I couldn't wear them anymore.
Oh, that's too bad.
That's a big mistake, Katie.
Good job.
Very funny, Nathan.
Very funny?
You said very funny.
And that's what Rob says in Conversation B, too.
Why does he say that?
Well, I don't think that he thought what Megan said was very funny.
She tells him his shirt is pink and pretty, so Rob says, "Very funny.".
That's right.
Megan was joking with Rob.
But maybe he did not really think that her jokes were funny.
Just like Katie didn't like what I said.
She's a little embarrassed about her mistake.
Again. Very funny, Nathan.
Anyway, friends, let's keep learning.
Megan gives Rob some advice.
"Go to the store," she says.
And that's our Use It sentence.
Let's see what Elizabeth has to say.
Today we're going to learn about the very simple pattern:
Go to the something.
For example, you could say:
Go to the movie theater.
Or... Go to the gym.
Wherever you go this week, don't forget to use it.
(Music).
So Rob can go to the store and buy a new shirt.
Well, friends, right now we need to take a short break.
So we'll be right back afterthis.
