Oh. That was just the name of the lesson.
Sorry. I saw a movie last night.
It was really good.
Hello, everyone.
My name is Nathan.
I'm so glad to be here for this lesson today.
Well, I think that Nathan is excited today.
So let's start our lesson.
Find your magazine and turn to today's Read It.
You can read it with Nathan right now.
Susie wants to go to a movie, and Mark will go with her.
They plan to see a film at the new theater.
Mark wants to see the action movie with Jessica Jenson in it.
She's a great actress.
Susie would rather see a drama.
That film has Cam Chang in it, and he's one of Mark's favorite actors.
Which movie will they watch?
Well, if you love movies, this is a lesson for you.
Our friends are trying to choose which movie to see.
How do you choose?
Maybe you like to see exciting movies or funny movies.
Maybe you choose a movie because you like the people in it.
Or you might have other reasons to go to a movie.
Now a movie is not a place, but we still say that we go to a movie when we watch
one at the theater.
I love going to movies, but I love learning key words with Christina, too.
(Chinese).
Hey, Susie.
Do you have plans for tonight?
Yes. I plan to see a movie.
There's a new theater at the mall.
How about you?
I don't have any plans.
I guess I'll just go home.
Why don't you see a movie with me? It will be fun!
Sure! That sounds great.
What film are you planning to watch?
I haven't decided.
Any ideas?
Well, Susie does not know which movie she wants to watch yet.
Mark can help her choose because they are going together now.
If you're going to a movie with a group of friends, you should choose a movie
that everyone wants to see.
Not everyone wants to see the same things.
That's right.
Not everyone likes scary movies.
Or some people may want to see a movie, but the other people don't think that it
will be good.
So it can be hard to choose sometimes.
But some people just go to movies because they want to be with their friends.
They may not care what they watch.
But movies are pretty expensive.
I don't want to pay a lot of money for a movie I don't want to see.
I guess I know some people like that, though, Nathan.
Yes. Some of my friends are like that.
But Katie, what did you mean when you said that "you guess" you know that some
people are like that?
Oh. Well, sometimes we say "I guess" when we mean I think or maybe.
Mark said that he guessed he would just go home.
So he thinks he'll just go home because he doesn't have anything else to do.
But now he can see a movie with Susie.
But Mark says film instead of movie.
Are those words just the same, Nathan?
I guess film sounds more important than movie.
If you study how to make movies, you probably say that you study film.
But film has another meaning, too.
Oh, that's right.
Not too long ago, our cameras that we used had film in them.
This film is like long pieces of plastic that the pictures or video you took was
put on.
But now cameras are more like computers.
And we can save pictures or video inside them.
Now you can still call movies films, though.
That's right.
So you can say: Let's see a film.
Now usually "see" doesn't mean to look at something a long time like when you
watch a movie.
But we still often use that phrase.
And I think Christina can tell us some more about that right now.
(Chinese).
I want to see that new movie, The Car.
It looks good.
Who is in it?
It has Jessica Jenson in it.
She's a great actress.
She's very popular.
Cam Chang also has a new movie out.
He's one of my favorite actors!
Let's decide when we get to the theater.
We don't want to be too late.
You're right.

I hope they hurry.
I hate being late to things.
It can be embarrassing.
But for movies, I just don't want to miss anything.
Yeah, you could miss something important if you get to a movie late.
But there are so many commercials before movies at the theater.
That's true.
Now the time on your ticket is when the commercials start.
You probably have 10 or 15 more minutes before the movie really starts.
But you still don't want to be late.
You will miss things, but it can bother people, too, if you come in after the
movie has already started.
You might need to walk in front of them to get to your seat.
So to help you to remember to be on time, let's watch today's Calendar Phrase.

But let's talk some more about how we choose what movies we want to see.
I think sometimes movies just look good.
We see the commercial on TV or online or at the MRT, and it looks fun or
interesting.
Now sometimes that is enough.
But a lot of people choose movies because of which actor or actress is going to
be in the movie.
That's right, too.
Sometimes a movie's story does not seem new.
But maybe it has some good actors in it so you still want to see the movie.
Just actors, Nathan?
What about actresses?
Aren't they important, too?
Yes, Katie, of course women are very important, too.
But you know that you can use the word "actors" for men or women, right?
Oh. So an actress is a woman, but an actor can be a man or a woman?
Well, if you say an actor, it's probably a man.
But a group of actors can be both men and women.
Oh, I understand now.
So, do any of your favorite actors have a new movie out now, friends?
Maybe you can go to that one.
Yeah, you should do it.
Movies are not always out very long.
Maybe you can only go to the theater for a month.
But that word "out" seems kind of strange here.
Maybe Christina can help us with it.
