Welcome to the LTE TV studio.
We're going to have some English fun today.
My name is Nathan.
I'm one of your teachers here on the show.
Today let's continue our CAREER lesson.
This lesson is called An Artist.
An Artist.
Katie, would you like to be an artist?
Well, yeah, Nathan.
I think I would like to try being an artist.
I think it would be a really fun career, and I think it'd be... very
interesting.
Hi, everyone.
My name is Katie, and I'm your other teacher here on the show.
We're going to learn a lot more great things today.
First, let's practice our reading together by reading the Read It in your
magazine for today.
Read it with Katie now.
There are many different kinds of art.
Drawing is a kind of art.
Some artists make paintings that look as real as photos!
Photography is another kind of art.
Artists take photos of nature, people, buildings... anything!
Sculptures can be art, too.
Some artists sculpt beautiful pieces of art, even out of metal.
Which kind of art do you like most?
Yesterday we learned about one kind of art - painting.
Many artists make paintings.
But today we learned about more kinds of art.
Drawing, photography and sculptures are all kinds of art.
Right. So you can do many different things if you are an artist.
Which do you like best, friends?
Well, that is a good question.
I don't think that I can answer that.
But let's learn our key words from Christina right now.
Hello.
(Chinese).
Hello, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk!
Today our show is all about art.
Please help me welcome my special guest, Mr. Aaron Artist!
Welcome to the show, Aaron Artist!
Aaron, you're an artist and an art teacher!
I am!
I teach art to young children.
It's such a great job!
What do you like about it?
Well, I teach kids about different kinds of art.
They can try drawing, painting, sculpting... anything!
How fun!
You can't know what you're good at until you try it!
Yesterday we talked about a very famous artist in Taiwan.
Katie, what was her name?
Well, her name was Mei-Lian and she made wonderful paintings even though she was
disabled.
And today we're going to learn about another great artist.
Rob has a guest on the show.
Aaron Artist, and he's great.
He's an artist and a teacher.
He does both things and he teaches young children.
That sounds like such a fun job.
I bet Aaron is a nice person.
That's such a good thing to do.
Well, I think Nathan likes to use the phrase "such a something," everyone.
And that's such an interesting thing to learn about that Christina is going to
talk to you about it right now.
(Chinese).
That was such a great point.
Thank you, Christina.
Now if Aaron's job is such a great job, we need to know why he likes it.
And he likes it because he can teach kids all about different kinds of art.
So what are some of these kinds, Nathan?
Oh, well, there's drawing, painting and sculpting.
Drawing is when you make a picture using a pen or a pencil.
Do you like to draw, everyone?
Maybe you draw pictures in school or at home for fun.
Nathan, do you ever draw?
Oh, sometimes I do like to draw people, but I don't do it too often.
Now another kind of art is sculpting.
That's when you make something out of metal, wood or other things, which is
really hard.
And you can see a lot of great sculptures in places like Europe.
Sculpting is a really cool kind of art.
But anything can be art.
And that's why it's good that Aaron Artist lets his students try different kinds
of art.
That's right.
Like Rob says, you can't know what you're good at until you try it.
And that's also today's Use It sentence.
So let's learn about it.
(Music).
Now let's learn about the pattern:
You can't do something until you do something else.
For example: You can't decide until you know all the choices.
Or... You can't learn to swim until you get in the water.
That's true.
And friends, I know you can use it.
(Music).
Well, we can't teach you more until we watch Conversation B.
So let's go there now.
My favorite kind of art is photography.
Some of the photos I see are amazing!
But I'm not good at photography.
You're good at another kind of art - drawing!
That's right.
I draw things I see around me, like people or buildings.
Do you draw with a pencil?
Sometimes!
I also draw with pens.
And I'm trying something new - digital drawing!
Like drawing on a computer?
Right!
So, in Conversation A, we talked about three kinds of art - drawing, painting
and sculpting.
In Conversation B, we learn about another kind - photography.
Ah. Pictures are also called photographs, and photo is a short way to say
photograph.
So photography is just the art of taking pictures with a camera.
And if you take pictures a lot, you are called a photographer.
So, friends, are any of you photographers?
Nathan, do you think you are a photographer?
Well, I do take pictures sometimes but not too often.
I would not call myself a photographer.
But some people are really great photographers.
They are really good at photography.
And they take beautiful photographs.
I think it would be great to be able to take beautiful photographs, but I'm not
very good at it.
But Aaron the artist also says that he is not good at photography.
But he is great at another kind of art that we have already learned about -
drawing.
He draws things that he sees around him.
Yes. He likes to draw people or buildings.
That's really cool.
Some people can draw really well.
Yes, they do.
And people draw with different things.
Some people draw with a pencil and other people draw with a pen.
But Aaron is trying something new.
He's trying digital drawing.
I don't know what that is.
Do you know, Nathan?
Well, I think it's when you draw pictures using a computer.
That would be really cool.
I think you can draw a lot of different things on your computer.
Wow! Aaron sounds like he's a really good artist.
I've never heard of digital drawing.
So he must be good at drawing if he's trying something that is so new.
I think you're right.
Well, it's time for us to take a quick break.
Don't goaway.
