Welcome back, everyone.
Today here at LTE TV, some of our friends are going to play basketball after
work.
And they're going to play against another team.
That's right. And one of them is Jim, who is the new weatherman at LTE TV.
So he will tell us all about the weather like if it's hot or cold outside.
Well, let's see what happens next in Conversation C now.
Hi, Rob.
Hi, Mark.
Hi, Jim.
Hi, Jim.
Do you play basketball often?
I play a few times a week.
I like basketball.
What about you?
I don't play often.
But I enjoy it.
OK, guys.
Let's shoot some baskets.
Good. I need some practice.
Let's play!
(Music).
Now they're ready to get some practice before they play their game.
We have a few things to teach you, but let's talk about Jim first, Katie.
Well, that's a great idea.
Friends, that was Jim.
Did you say "Hi, Jim" with Rob and Mark?
I'm sure you'll have a good time getting to know him.
If he was here right now, I would say, "Everyone, Jim. Jim, our friends.".
Yes. It's very easy to help other people meet new friends.
Have you done that before?
Next time maybe you can try to do that in English.
OK. Now Jim plays basketball a few times a week.
He gets a lot of practice.
So he might be a really good player.
That's right. He could be a really good player.
And I think that we will find out about that tomorrow.
But now let's have Christina tell us about using the phrase: a few.
(Chinese).
Yes, a few and several may seem like the same thing, but they are different.
Make sure you use them correctly.
That's right. So you can use them like this:
Several players on our team are new, but only a few are young.
Several is more than a few.
Mmhm. Now, remember, Jim plays basketball a few times a week.
That means he probably plays two or three times every week.
Just a few times.
But what about you?
How much basketball do you play?
You might play every day or maybe not too often or maybe you never play.
Oh, Katie, you just said something that's good to learn about.
If someone asks you a question, you can answer.
Then you can say: What about you?
Oh, yeah.
And then they will answer the same question.
You can get to know people with that question.
Nathan, do you like to shoot baskets?
Shoot baskets?
You mean trying to throw a basketball into a hoop?
Sure. It's pretty fun.
What about you?
Me?
Uh, shooting baskets is kind of hard.
But it's fun to try sometimes.
Hey, now you can try to practice that question yourself.
And you can practice your key words with us, too.
The first key word is:
basketball.
basketball.
Jeremy Lin plays basketball really well.
practice.
practice.
Practice your English every day.
court.
court.
How big is a basketball court?
shoot.
shoot.
Simon, shoot the ball.
basket.
basket.
Shoot the ball into the basket.
Try to remember all of today's sport key words.
I'm sure you will find them useful.
Right now, we want to go back and watch today's conversations again.
Listen carefully and try to learn something new.
Hey, Mike.
Are you doing anything after work?
Hi, Rob.
No, I'm not.
Great!
Jim and I plan to play basketball.
Can you come?
Jim?
Our weatherman, Jim.
Oh! Right. Sure!
But I didn't bring my clothes or sneakers.
Meet us at 6:00.
You can go home first.
Will we meet at Riverside Park?
Yes. We'll meet at court number one.
I have a ball at home.
I can bring it.
Do we need it?
No. I have a ball in my gym bag.
Are we playing against some other guys?
Yes. They come at 7:00.
We can practice first.
Hi, Rob.
Hi, Mark.
Hi, Jim.
Hi, Jim.
Do you play basketball often?
I play a few times a week.
I like basketball.
What about you?
I don't play often.
But I enjoy it.
OK, guys.
Let's shoot some baskets.
Good. I need some practice.
Let's play!
(Music).
Ooh. Hello, Monkey Man.
Hello, Ginger.
Why do you have a basketball?
Because I plan to play basketball.
I want to play, too.
Can I come?
First I'm going to practice.
I want to practice, too. Can I come?
Then I'm going to shoot baskets.
Oh. Ooh, ooh, I want to shoot baskets, too. Can I come, Monkey Man?
Then I'm going to play basketball.
I want to play, too.
Can I come? Please!
But Ginger, you don't know how to play.
Please! Can I come?
Can I play?
Hmm. OK.
You can play... on the other team.
Now let's Answer It.
Let's look at question one.
What court will Mark, Rob and Jim meet at?
What court will Mark, Rob and Jim meet at?
Well, you can find that answer in Conversation B.
They will meet at court number one.
Here's question two.
Do you like basketball?
Why or why not?
Do you like basketball?
Why or why not?
Let's listen to some answers from our friends.
Do I like basketball?
Yes. I like to play basketball with some friends.
But I'm not really good at it.
I'm really grateful that my friends would actually play with me.
But I need to be really careful when I play the sport.
Because if I jam my fingers, my job will be at risk.
Do I like basketball?
Well, I like to watch basketball games with my friends at school or on
television since the basketball players look tall and cool.
But personally I don't play.
Passing and catching the ball seems hard to me.
Don't even mention about throwing the ball into the basket.
It's so tall.
Maybe that's the reason why I'm not tall.
Do I like basketball?
Why or why not?
Yes. I do like basketball.
Sometimes I play basketball.
I try to dribble and I practice shooting, but it's not easy.
I'm not a good player.
But that's OK, because I can watch basketball on TV and cheer for my favorite
team. I like the Rockets. Yeah.
Do I like basketball?
No. I LOVE basketball.
First of all, my older brother played basketball.
And in college, I dated a famous basketball player.
He taught me all the rules and told me everything.
I love the game.
And that famous basketball player became my husband.
So yes, I do love basketball... almost as much as I love my husband.
We hope you enjoyed today's lesson.
Come back tomorrow to see if our LTE team will win their basketball game.
Oh. I can't wait to see.
So we'll see you next time right here on...
Let's Talk in English. Bye-bye.
(Music).
