Welcome to this Saturday review show.
Today we're going to talk about everything that we learned this week.
My name is Nathan, and I'm your teacher here on Let's Talk in English.
And my name is Katie.
We're glad that you joined us for another day of talking in English, friends.
So let's talk about this week.
Rob did something really important.
He got a checkup at the doctor.
And we learned that Rob is in good shape.
But does he need to lose weight?
And then Mark, Rob and Megan take a long weekend and they go on a road trip.
That is so much fun.
Road trips are a great thing to do with your friends.
Do you remember how far away Nashville is?
Oh. Good question.
Friends, listen for the answers.
Right now let's watch our conversations again.
(Music).
Good job on your report, Susie.
Thanks, Rob!
Let's go get some coffee.
I can't.
I have a doctor's appointment at 3:00.
Are you sick?
No. I just need a checkup.
Do you have one every year?
Yes, I do.
Good for you.
Checkups keep you healthy.
Hi, Carol. I'm leaving now.
Where are you going?
I have a doctor's appointment at 3:00.
That's right!
You're going for a checkup.
Yes. The doctor will check my heart and my blood pressure.
Good! You don't want any heart problems!
I know.
Last year my blood pressure was a little high.
Hello, Rob.
How are you?
Just fine, Dr. Adams.
Good, good.
Did the nurse check your height and weight?
Yes, she did.
And she checked your blood pressure.
It's not high this year.
I'm glad.
I was a little worried about it.
High blood pressure can be dangerous.
I know.
OK. Let's check your eyes and ears.
Well, Rob, you look pretty healthy.
Thanks, Doctor.
I feel pretty good.
I didn't get sick much this year.
Did you get a flu shot last fall?
Yes, I did.
Good. And do you get enough exercise?
Yes. I exercise several times a week.
Good! Keep doing that.
And don't eat too many snacks.
You'll gain weight.
I know.
How was your checkup, Rob?
It was fine.
I'm in good health.
I'm glad.
So the doctor didn't discover any health problems?
No. My blood pressure is good.
But I should lose a little weight.
You're not the only one!
But everything else is fine.
I'm in good shape.
I try to take care of my body.
I should make an appointment for a checkup.
If you care about your health, you should.
I do.
Two people in my family had stomach cancer.
So I get a checkup every year.
That's good.
No one wants to get cancer!
No one wants to get any disease!
True. So we should try to stay healthy.
And get a checkup every year!
I'm excited about our long weekend.
Let's plan a road trip!
Where do you want to go?
Let's go to Nashville!
Nashville? Why?
Because we can eat good food there.
And we can listen to good music.
Good idea!
Where can we stay?
My uncle and his family live in Nashville.
We can stay with them.
Who can drive?
I can.
I have a new medium-sized car.
It's comfortable.
OK. We can leave early Friday morning.
How early?
How about 6:00?
That's too early.
No, it's not.
How far is Nashville?
It's six or seven hours from here.
Then we can be there in time for lunch!
I can't believe it!
We ran out of gas!
I'm so sorry.
I forgot to get gas.
What can we do?
Wait for a car to stop and help us.
Maybe someone can give you a ride to a gas station.
I hope so.
Here comes a car!
Everyone wave!
(Music).
Did you hear about Rob, Mark and Megan's trip?
Yes, they left this morning.
They'll have a good time.
Nashville is a nice city.
How far is Nashville?
It's a six or seven hour drive from here.
They should be there by lunchtime then.
What time did they leave?
They left at 6 a.m., I think.
That's early!
We're here!
At last!
But it's way past lunchtime.
That's OK.
We can have a nice dinner.
But first, let's go to your uncle's house.
OK. We have to go over a big bridge to East Nashville.
Do I get back on the freeway?
No. Look at the map.
We just drive down Peabody Street.
Then let's go.
What a trip!
Yes. I was glad to see my uncle, and Nashville was fun!
Except that we ran out of gas on the way there.
And we had a flat tire on the way back.
But we had a great time.
We did.
And Mark's car was comfortable.
True.
But next time we go on a road trip, I'll drive!
(Music).
eREPORT.
Hello, friends.
My name is Gabe and this is eREPORT.
OK. Actually, I'm a little bit sad today because my friend is sick in the
hospital.
And I want to do something to... to make her happy.
But I don't know what...
What should I do?
Oh, I could get her a gift.
That's a good idea.
But what kind of gift?
What should I get her?
Oh, I know. Chocolate.
Oh, wait a minute.
This friend doesn't like chocolate too much.
Um. Oh, I know.
Flowers!
All girls like flowers, right?
That's a great idea.
I will get her some flowers.
But where?
Where can I get some flowers?
Gabe is looking for flowers.
Sometimes you can find flowers in a supermarket or small store.
But the best place to get beautiful flowers is at a flower market.
Today Gabe is going to the Neihu Flower Market in Taipei.
This is a popular place to buy many flowers for a good price.
People get flowers for many events.
Flowers can make people happy or feel better when they are sad.
But different flowers can have different meanings.
So knowing a little about the flowers is important.
Red roses and lilies are good choices for friends or family.
These flowers can mean love and friendship.
Tulips are a good choice, too.
They make people think of spring and new life.
What about orchids?
Orchids are usually used as gifts for hotels and new businesses.
I don't really buy flowers often.
So I don't know a lot about flowers.
Finding the right kind of flowers can be a little tricky.
The color and smell is very important.
But flowers also have different meanings, right?
I don't want to buy the wrong kind of flowers for my friend.
I want to buy flowers that mean "I hope you feel better soon".
So what kind of flower should I get?
Sunflowers?
Roses?
Tulips?
I don't know.
At this flower market, there are many kinds of flowers.
There are roses, sunflowers, daisies, orchids and many other kinds of flowers.
Most flowers come from fields where farmers grow them.
A flower nursery is the place where many plants and small flowers grow.
The flowers are usually in a special glass house called a greenhouse.
At a flower market, there are often many people who work and sell the flowers.
Every day people come here to buy colorful flowers or plants.
Many flowers have bright colors and patterns which make them very beautiful.
Some flowers also have a strong smell.
Many flowers smell very good.
People like to put flowers in their houses or offices to make it smell and look
nice.
At a flower market, finding the right flowers is hard work.
After a person finds and pays for the flowers, they can also get someone to help
them gift-wrap the flowers.
Gift-wrapping is a special way to give flowers to someone.
In Asia, gift-wrapping flowers is very popular.
A person will often clean the flowers first.
Then cut them and wash them with water.
Usually some other flowers and plants are added to the flowers.
Then comes the wrapping paper.
There is usually a lot of paper, tape and ribbons.
Sometimes the way the flowers are wrapped is nicer than the flowers.
The people who gift-wrap the flowers are very quick and enjoy their work.
Don't forget to get a card.
You can write a short message on it and sign your name.
Then the person who gets the flowers will know where they came from.
Ah, there it is.
Look at this big, beautiful bouquet of tulips.
Wait, these are tulips, right?
Hey, wait a minute.
These don't look like tulips.
I think these are roses.
I don't want roses.
Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
I'm buying flowers for my friend, not my girlfriend.
Oh, no!
If she sees these roses, she's going to think that I like her.
She'll think that I'm in love with her and... and... and then... and then... and
then she won't be sad anymore.
Well, hey, I guess that's not so bad.
Roses are good, too.
Besides, these are not red roses.
Red roses mean love.
Well, these are very nice.
But she won't think that I'm in love with her.
I think it's OK.
Well, this is Gabe for eREPORT... smelling the roses.
(Music).
OK, friends.
Let's get started with this review.
Here's the first question.
What does the doctor check at Rob's checkup?
OK.
The doctor will check Rob's heart and blood pressure.
But is... is there something else?
Hmm, well, I'm not sure, Katie.
Didn't you listen to the interview?
Yeah. But... oh, but I can't remember what else.
OK. I guess you're not going to get it.
Here's the answer.
The doctor will check Rob's...
Oh! I know!
I know the answer.
He will also check Rob's eyes and ears.
It's such an easy question, Nathan.
Well, there's a little more to the answer, Katie.
The doctor will also check Rob's height and weight.
Oh, uh, right.
So I didn't get it all right.
But that's OK.
You have another question to try to answer.
Here it is.
What happened on the road trip?
Oh. I know this.
The car ran out of gas.
So they could not drive.
They had to get some help.
That's right.
They needed to find someone to give them a ride to the gas station.
Oh, that's right.
That was not good.
Well, everyone, right now we need to take a quick break.
Don't goaway!
