Thanks for joining us for the rest of today's TRAVEL lesson.
Our friends finally made it to Nashville.
They got to Nashville at last!
That's right.
But it was only supposed to take six or seven hours to drive there.
But they were a little late.
They ran out of gas and then they had a flat tire.
So why don't we see what else happens in Conversation C right now?
What a trip!
Yes. I was glad to see my uncle, and Nashville was fun!
Except that we ran out of gas on the way there.
And we had a flat tire on the way back.
But we had a great time.
We did.
And Mark's car was comfortable.
True.
But next time we go on a road trip, I'll drive!
Everyone is back at the Jungle Cafe after their road trip.
But it sounds like they had a little more trouble on the way back.
That's right. They had trouble on the way there and the way back.
Why don't we look at those two phrases?
"The way there" is the trip going to someplace.
And "the way back" is the trip going back where you started.
So the way back usually takes you home.
Now we all know what happened the way there in this road trip.
They ran out of gas.
But did you hear what happened on the way back, Nathan?
Well, yes, I did.
Rob said that they had a flat tire.
Well, that means that one of the tires on Mark's car got a hole in it.
It's not safe to drive with a flat tire.
Sometimes our tires get low, that means that they are losing air.
You might need to have more air put in them.
Because if you don't, you might get a flat tire.
But sometimes you get a flat tire because something makes a hole in your tire.
That's why it's good to know how to change a tire.
That's right.
But you need another tire and some tools to do that.
It might take some practice because it can be a little hard to change a tire.
Yes, it is not easy.
Now we don't know how Mark's car got a flat tire, but we know that they fixed
the problem.
Because they still got back to LTE TV offices.
And we also know that Rob wants to drive next time they go on a road trip.
I think he's tired of the problems with Mark's car.
Yes. There were some problems with Mark's car.
But they still had a good time.
And we learned that phrase earlier today, right?
Oh. Well, no, Nathan.
They didn't have a good time.
They had a great time on their road trip.
And you know, sometimes problems make the best stories to tell later.
Oh. You're right about that.
And if you have a good trip or if you have a lot of problems on a trip, you can
always say: What a trip!
Yeah. That means that you've never had a trip like it before.
And we hope that you can say "What a show!" after our program.
But don't worry, it's not over yet.
It's time for us to do some key word review.
Let's look at the first one.
drive.
drive.
Karen went on a 10-hour drive.
bridge.
bridge.
The bridge is over the river.
freeway.
freeway.
You can drive fast on the freeway.
except.
except.
Ned is ready, except he forgot his pen.
way.
way.
We're on our way to school!
All right, everyone, practice today's key words.
Make sure you know how to use them.
Right now, we want to continue our review by going back and watching our
conversations again.
Did you hear about Rob, Mark and Megan's trip?
Yes, they left this morning.
They'll have a good time.
Nashville is a nice city.
How far is Nashville?
It's a six or seven hour drive from here.
They should be there by lunchtime then.
What time did they leave?
They left at 6 a.m., I think.
That's early!
We're here!
At last!
But it's way past lunchtime.
That's OK.
We can have a nice dinner.
But first, let's go to your uncle's house.
OK.
We have to go over a big bridge to East Nashville.
Do I get back on the freeway?
No. Look at the map.
We just drive down Peabody Street.
Then let's go.
(Music).
Ginger, let's take a road trip to Nashville.
No. Let's take a road trip to banana land.
Nashville.
Banana land.
Wait. I have an idea.
Is it a good idea?
Yes. Let's go to Nashville and banana land!
Both?
Yeah! First we'll go to Nashville.
And listen to good music.
Yeah.
And then we'll go to banana land.
And eat bananas?
Yes, it'll be fun! We can take my car.
Yeah.
And I can drive.
Uh. No, Ginger, I can drive.
No. I can drive.
No. I'm driving.
No. Me.
No. Me.
Me.
No, you don't...
Me.
No. I'm driving.
Well, I have some bad news.
Your car has some problems.
There's a problem with your car's mirrors.
The engine is broken and the lights on the back don't work.
But lucky for you, I am a car mechanic.
Howdy!
My name is Ralph.
A car mechanic is like a doctor for cars.
I find problems with your car and fix them.
It usually costs a lot of money to fix a car.
But you want to drive a good safe car, so you need to pay enough money to fix
it.
A car mechanic knows a lot about cars.
If a car has a problem and needs to be fixed, a car mechanic will find new parts
for your car.
He likes to get his hands dirty... and make a car drive well again.
Sometimes a mechanic needs to work under the car where it is dirty and dark.
Do you want to go under your car?
I didn't think so.
I'm a car mechanic and this is my job.
Sorry about that.
The car problems our friends had took some time to fix.
But I don't think they would need a car mechanic for them.
No. Running out of gas and changing a tire are problems that we can fix
ourselves.
We need car mechanics for bigger problems.
Now this lesson wasn't all about problems.
Road trips are fun, too.
It was great to see our friends in Nashville.
And they had a great time, too.
They didn't let the car problems get in the way of that.
That's something that we should all learn to do.
Mmhm. Learning English can be hard work.
But keep a good attitude and you will improve.
You'll enjoy it more, too.
So we hope that you will join us tomorrow for another show right here on...
Let's Talk in English.
Bye-bye.
(Music).
