This is Let's Talk in English.
It's Saturday, and that means today we're going to review.
My name is Katie.
Oh. Hi, Katie.
And my name is Nathan.
Let's talk a little bit about what we learned this week.
We started our month talking about schedules.
What is your schedule like each week?
Oh, that is a great question.
Sometimes your schedule is really busy every day and you might have a lot of
things to do.
Mark had a lot of interviews on his schedule this week.
And then we learned some things about fast food.
Do you like to eat cheeseburgers or hamburgers.
Do you remember what fast food means?
Fast food is food that you can get really fast like hamburgers or pizza.
But fast food is usually not so healthy for you.
Do you remember why Susie could not order lunch for her friends?
And what did she bring to the office instead?
Well, friends, you should think about those questions while we watch this week's
conversations again.
While you watch, try to hear the answers.
(Music).
Hi, Carol.
Hi, Mark.
Are you ready for a new week?
Sure! What's on my schedule?
You have a lot of interviews.
That's good.
Do I have one every day?
Yes. And you have two on Thursday.
Are they long interviews?
No. Each one is about 40 minutes.
Good. That's not too long.
Here is your schedule. Take a look.
Thanks.
There are some meetings on my schedule.
Yes. But they are not long.
They will only be half an hour.
That's good.
You don't like my meetings?
Well, I, er...
Don't worry.
I understand.
All of us are busy people.
Yes, we are!
Let's get back to work!
I just have one question.
What's that?
What's this lunch the day after tomorrow?
Some guests will visit the station.
Some of us will eat lunch with them.
OK. Will it be a long lunch?
No. I don't think so.
Good.
I have a program at 1:30.
You can be back in time for it.
Hey, Mark.
What time does your watch say?
Mine is slow.
I don't wear a watch.
But I'll check my cellphone.
Thanks.
What time is it?
It's a quarter to 2:00.
So it's 1:45.
My watch is three minutes slow.
Thanks.
Did you look at your schedule?
Yes. Why?
Because mine is unusual.
Why is it unusual?
Well, I have six interviews this week.
I usually only do one or two.
Let me look at my schedule.
Hmm... I only have two interviews.
That's strange.
And I'm going to lunch with some guests on Wednesday.
I don't usually take guests to lunch.
And I usually do take guests to lunch.
But I'm not taking them this week.
Do we have the right schedules?
Maybe Carol gave you my schedule, and she gave me yours.
Let me see yours for a second.
Hey! You have an interview with Gavin Thomas.
That's my interview.
And you have an interview with the mayor tomorrow at three o'clock.
That's my interview!
So we do have the wrong schedules!
Yes. But now we have the right ones!
(Music).
Hey, Mark.
I'm going to Pete's Hamburgers to pick up some lunch.
Do you want anything?
Yes, I do!
I want a hamburger.
No, two hamburgers.
Two hamburgers?
I'm really hungry.
Do you want anything else?
Yes. A large Coke and some French fries, please.
OK, I'll...
Wait! Pete's Hamburgers sells apple pie.
I want apple pie, too!
Hey, Rob.
I'm going to pick up some lunch at Pete's Hamburgers.
Do you want anything?
Yes, please!
I'd like a chicken sandwich with extra lettuce and tomatoes...
OK, anything...
No onions, no mayonnaise and no mustard.
OK... Do you want a drink?
Yes. I want tea.
But not sweet tea!
Not sweet tea.
Got it!
Hi, Carol.
I'm going to Pete's Hamburgers.
Can I pick up anything for you?
That would be great!
I'll have a cheeseburger.
Just a cheeseburger?
Just a cheeseburger!
Well... maybe some French fries, too.
OK, a cheeseburger and fries.
Wait! Do I want a cheeseburger?
Or do I want a hamburger?
I can't decide!
Hi, Susie.
What are you working on?
I want to go and order lunch from Pete's Hamburgers.
But I can't remember everyone's orders!
You didn't write them down?
No. I thought I could remember.
But everybody had a special order.
I see.
What can you remember?
Rob wants a chicken sandwich with extra lettuce and tomatoes.
And Mark wants two cheeseburgers.
Or were they hamburgers?
Oh, I'm so confused!
Mark! I'm glad you're here.
Can you tell me your lunch order again?
Two hamburgers, fries, a large Coke and apple pie!
Great. I'm going to Pete's to order lunch in just a minute!
Wait! I changed my mind.
Oh, no!
I want two hamburgers with extra ketchup, and two pieces of apple pie.
I'll try to remember that.
I'm back!
I've got lunch!
You got pizza?
I thought we were getting lunch from Pete's Hamburgers.
Everyone's orders were too confusing.
I forgot all the details.
Pizza is easier.
Everyone can share!
Right. I'm sorry about the other order.
But I just couldn't remember everything.
It's OK.
But that's a lot of pizza!
It is!
I remembered one thing: Mark is really hungry!
Have you seen my keys, Mark?
I can't find them anywhere!
No, I haven't.
Did you check at the bottom of your bag?
Yes. They're not in my bag.
Could they be on your desk?
No, they're not there, either!
Can you help me look?
I have a meeting in five minutes!
Sure. Where did you last see them?
When I came into my office, I put them on that table.
But now they're not there!
Could they be in your desk?
Maybe they're in a drawer?
No, they're not in my desk.
I'll look underneath the desk.
They're not under there, either!
I looked.
Did they fall behind the desk?
No. Maybe they fell on the floor somewhere?
I'll keep looking.
Look beside that chair.
Maybe the keys fell off the table.
No, they're not over here.
Did they fall into the trash can?
No. Carol, I don't see them anywhere.
Maybe you dropped them outside?
Oh, no!
I'll never find them outside!
Hey... Did you check your pockets?
My keys!
They were here the whole time!
(Music).
Well, now you should all be ready to review.
So Nathan and I have some questions for you.
And here's our first question for today.
This week we learned about schedules.
Mark had an interview every day this week.
How many interviews did Mark have on Thursday?
Well, that's a great question, Nathan.
And I think I know the answer.
Mark had one interview on Thursday.
That's what you just said.
Er, sorry, Katie.
That's not right.
Mark's schedule is different on Thursday.
Do you want to try again?
Oh. Well, now I think this is a hard question.
Let me think.
He must have had more than one interview that day.
Oh. I bet he had two interviews.
Is that right?
Yes, that is right.
Good job, Katie.
Now Mark had two interviews on Thursday on his schedule, but he also has some
meetings on his schedule.
That's right.
But those meetings will only last half an hour.
That's not too long.
Let's try another question.
But it's my turn this time.
OK?
What does Susie usually do every week?
Hmm. Oh, I know. I know.
Susie usually takes guests to lunch.
And I remember something else.
Mark had Susie's schedule.
They both had the wrong schedule.
Oh, you're right, Nathan.
Great job.
And... and how many of you wear a watch?
Those are helpful for telling time.
Hmm. But sometimes watches are slow, and that happened to Susie this week, too.
Now I think we have time for one more question, Katie.
You're right.
Nathan, how about you ask this question?
OK. Hmm.
This is a harder question.
What did Mark want from Pete's Hamburgers?
Oh, man, that is hard.
OK.
Mark wanted a hamburger.
No. No. Two hamburgers and a large Coke.
Oh, that's almost right.
What else did he want?
He wanted more?
He's so hungry!
OK.
He also wants some apple pie and some French fries.
Good job, Katie.
And...
Oh, no. That's not right.
Mark changed his mind, remember?
What he really wants is two hamburgers with extra ketchup and two pieces of
apple pie!
I forgot.
You are right.
Well, friends, it's time for a break. We'll be back soon.
