Welcome to the LTE TV studio, everyone.
We have a great show for you today.
My name is Nathan.
It's great to be here with you.
Now for today, we want to continue our CAREER topic.
Our lesson is called A Flight Attendant.
A Flight Attendant.
Do you think being a flight attendant would be an exciting job, Katie?
Ooh, I think it would be exciting.
Like we learned yesterday, you get to travel and you have to do a lot of
different things.
So there's never a boring moment.
Hi, everyone.
My name is Katie, and I'm your other teacher here on the show.
I hope you're ready to learn a lot today.
Today we want to practice our reading together with today's Read It.
Let's read it with Katie right now.
A flight attendant's job begins before he or she greets passengers who board the
plane.
They have a meeting with the captain.
He gives them more information about the passengers, the flight's route and a
weather report.
Then flight attendants check the plane's supplies and safety equipment.
Flight attendants help passengers during the flight.
Some passengers have pets.
They must stay in their carriers.
Well, it's time to learn some more about being a flight attendant today.
This job has many parts.
That's right.
Flight attendant start work before they get on the airplane.
They have to talk to the captain.
Oh. They get to talk to the person who flies the plane.
The pilot.
That would be cool.
That's right.
The captain knows a lot and he tells them what they need to know about the
flight.
And you need to know your key words.
So let's go see Christina right now.
(Chinese).
Flight attendants do more than serve passengers, don't they?
Oh, yes.
Or job starts hours before the passengers get on the plane.
What do you do?
Well, the flight attendants have a meeting with the captain.
He gives us information about the flight.
Things like the number of passengers?
Yes. We hear about the flight's route and get a weather report.
We also check the plane's supplies.
OK, Katie, let's review.
What did we learn about a flight attendant's job yesterday?
Oh, good question.
We learned that flight attendants serve passengers and they keep them safe.
Mmhm. Right.
And you do a lot of different things to serve the passengers and keep them safe.
But we learned today that flight attendants do even more than that.
Their job starts before the passengers even get on the plane.
Mmhm. The flight attendants all have a meeting with the captain.
A meeting is just a place where you talk about important things.
And the phrase "have a meeting" is today's Calendar Phrase.
I have a meeting.
I have a meeting.
(Chinese).
What are you doing this morning?
I have a meeting.
What are you doing this afternoon?
I have a meeting.
What are you doing tonight?
I have a meeting.
What are you doing tomorrow?
Nothing.
I'm free tomorrow.
Great! Let's have a meeting.
I have a meeting.
I have a meeting.
(Chinese).
Well, that was great.
So the flight attendants meet with the captain.
And the captain is the person who flies the plane.
Do you know any other place where you can find a captain, Nathan?
Hmm, I do.
You can also find captains on a boat or a ship.
A captain can fly a plane or drive a ship.
That's right.
So the captain knows a lot about the flight that they will be taking.
He knows all the important information.
That's why it's important for the flight attendants to talk to him.
Now some information the flight attendants need to know is how many passengers
will be on the flight.
That's right.
They need to know if all the seats will be filled.
And the captain also tells the flight attendants the route they will take.
Now the route is just the way they will be flying, like flying from Los Angeles
to Hong Kong.
You can say route two different ways, though.
That's right.
You can say it like route or route.
People say it differently but both ways are right.
Right.
But one of the other important things flight attendants need to know is about
the weather.
So the captain gives them a weather report.
That's right, he tells them how hot or cold it will be outside.
And he will tell them if it's going to rain or not.
It's important to know.
Airplanes can fly in a lot of different kinds of weather.
But if it gets rainy outside, the flight may not go too well.
That's right.
So flight attendants need to know about that.
And now we need to move on to Conversation B.
You make sure you have enough food and drinks?
Yes, and other things to make passengers comfortable.
We also check the safety equipment.
That's good.
Then we get the plane ready for passengers.
When they start to board, we greet them and help them find their seats.
And you try to get them in their seats as fast as possible?
Yes. Then the flight can leave on time.
So like we said yesterday, flight attendants make sure that you have food and
drinks.
Some flights are really long.
So it's important to eat meals and drink a lot of water.
And flight attendants will get that for you.
Not every flight has a meal for passengers, but most flights at least have a
snack for passengers.
So there are a lot of things that flight attendants can do to make sure
passengers are comfortable.
And they also check the safety equipment.
Ooh, that's a really important job.
The equipment is the things that they use on the plane.
So what are some pieces of safety equipment, Katie?
Well, life jackets are safety equipment.
They will help you float in the water.
What else, Nathan?
Oh, uh, masks are safety equipment, too.
They help you breathe if something happens.
That's right.
Those are both kinds of safety equipment.
So flight attendants will check the equipment before the fight to make sure
everything is OK with it.
They don't want there to be any problems.
But then, flight attendants have to get ready for the passengers.
They make sure the plane is clean and ready.
Well, that's good.
And then the passengers board.
That means that they get on the airplane.
Now you can also board a ship.
That means you get on the ship.
That's right.
And when the passengers board, the flight attendant... attendants greet them.
That means they say "Hello!" and "How are you today?".
But then, they help passengers find their seats as fast as possible.
And that's another important job.
And that's also something Christina would like to talk to you about right now.
(Chinese).
So what do you do as fast as possible?
Flight attendants have to get people to their seat as fast as possible because
there are a lot of people and they're all trying to find their seat.
So it's good that flight attendants try to help the passengers.
That makes it easier for everyone to find their seat.
And once everyone gets to their seat, the flight can leave.
Flights need to leave on time because there are so many different flights a day.
Now there's more to learn later.
But right now we need to take a short break.
Please comeback in a few minutes.
