You're watching Let's Talk in English.
It's a great day here at LTE TV.
My name is Katie, and we hope that you are excited for our lesson today.
Our topic is CAREER.
And the title of our new lesson is A Flight Attendant.
A Flight Attendant.
Now, Nathan, where does a flight attendant work?
Oh. Well, a flight attendant works on flights.
That means they work on an airplane.
My name is Nathan, and it's great to be here with you all today.
Well, we have a lot of great things to learn, so let's get started by taking out
our magazines and finding today's Read It.
You can read it with Nathan right now.
Rob is interviewing a flight attendant today.
Flight attendants work hard.
Sometimes they have unusual experiences when they try to keep passengers happy.
But they do other things besides serving passengers.
Safety is their number one job.
They talk about safety before every flight.
So Nathan was right.
A flight attendant works on an airplane.
And they work very hard.
Mmhm, yes, they do.
Flight attendants have to take care of the people who fly on the airplane.
And they have to make sure that the passengers stay safe.
I think that would be a really hard job.
They talk about safety on every flight.
Friends, have you been on a flight before?
Have you seen the flight attendants talk about safety?
Well, I know I have.
They always talk a lot about safety.
But before we find out more about it, let's learn our key words for today from
Christina, our word lady.
Hello.
(Chinese).
Hi, Rob.
Who are you interviewing today?
I'm interviewing a flight attendant.
She should be here any minute.
A flight attendant's job must be fun.
Why do you say that?
Flight attendants get to travel a lot.
True.
But they also work hard.
I know.
They have to keep passengers happy!
And that's not always easy!
Well, Rob is always interviewing interesting people at LTE TV.
And today he's going to interview a flight attendant.
What a cool job!
You get to fly in an airplane every day.
You get to travel.
You get to see the world and stay in a lot of hotels.
Whoa, that does sound fun.
But I think being a flight attendant is a lot of hard work, too.
Would you like to keep a lot of passengers happy?
Ooh, keep the passengers happy?
How do flight attendants do that?
Do they keep the passengers in a place that's happy?
Well, no, Nathan, they do things to make sure the passengers stay comfortable on
the airplane.
What things do flight attendants usually do when you fly?
Hmm, that's a good question.
Flight attendants bring you drinks and food.
And if you are cold, they will help you get a blanket.
That's right.
And they will also try to answer questions you might have about the flight.
Flight attendants do a lot of things to keep people happy during flights, and
that can be very hard.
Yes. People get stressed out and worried when they fly, so sometimes it's hard
to keep them happy.
And that's why Rob says, "That's not always easy!" He means the job is not
always easy to do.
We should talk about the big word we've been using in this lesson.
Passenger.
A passenger is someone who is traveling on something but is not driving it.
So where can you be a passenger?
Well, you can be a passenger on an airplane, of course.
And you can be a passenger on a bus or in a car as long as someone else is
driving.
Or you can be a passenger on a boat.
Boats can carry a lot of passengers.
That's right.
Before we learn any more, we need to go to Christina.
She wants to talk to you about the phrase: any minute.
(Chinese).
Besides serving passengers, what do flight attendants do?
I'm not sure.
I'm going to ask Jen.
She's the flight attendant.
Ask her to tell you about some unusual experiences, too.
I will.
Flight attendants meet lots of people.
And many of them are nice, but some are not.
Right.
Some people can be quite rude.
Well, here comes Jen!
OK, I'll see you later!
Well, we told you some things that flight attendants do.
But I'm sure you want to know more about their jobs, right, friends?
Well, I do.
And Susie does, too.
That's why she asks, "Besides serving passengers, what do flight attendants
do?".
Well, hey, that's our Use It sentence for today.
Let's learn about it with Elizabeth.
(Music).
Now we're going to learn how to use the pattern:
Besides doing something, what do / does someone do?
Let's see an example.
Besides going to meetings, what does the boss do?
Or... Besides watching TV, what do you do?
Now, don't be afraid to use it.
(Music).
Well, thanks, Elizabeth.
That's a great sentence to know.
And "besides" is a great word for you to know, too.
Let's practice using this word.
Like this: Besides learning English, what other language are you studying?
Or besides basketball, what other sports do you play?
Try to make your own sentence using the word: besides.
Now let's keep learning together.
Rob isn't sure what else flight attendants do.
So he's going to ask Jen.
That's right.
Jen is the flight attendant Rob is going to interview.
And I'm sure she will be able to answer his questions.
Besides helping passengers, I'm sure flight attendants have a lot of unusual
experiences.
That's right.
There's a lot of people on planes.
So a lot of interesting things happen.
And when something happens to you, that's called an experience.
Hmm. If something bad happens, that's called a bad experience.
If something good happens, that's a good experience.
But something crazy or weird is usually an unusual experience.
She might have some unusual experiences because she gets to meet a lot of
different kinds of people.
That would be so cool.
So many people travel, but not everyone is nice.
That's right.
Like we said earlier, people get stressed out when they travel.
And when someone is stressed, they're mean or they're rude.
Yes.
Well, right now I think it's time for us to take a break.
We'll be back in just a fewminutes, everyone.
