You're watching Let's Talk in English.
It's a great day here at LTE TV.
My name is Katie, and we're glad that you joined us for our show today.
Our topic is AROUND TOWN.
And the title of our lesson is Where Are We?
Where Are We?
Oh, Katie, I... I hope that you know we are here on Let's Talk in English in the
LTE TV studio.
I think Katie might need a little bit of help today.
Hello, everyone.
My name is Nathan, and it's great to be learning some English with you today.
So let's get started with our lesson for today.
Find your magazine and turn to today's Read It.
You can read it with Nathan right now.
Susie and Ken are working on an important story about an accident.
They are driving the station's truck to the place.
But they don't know the streets.
And they don't have a map.
So they get lost!
Susie and Ken go east on Highway 70.
Do they turn right at Bill's Gas Station, or Bob's Gas Station?
They don't know!
Well, that doesn't sound good.
Susie and Ken are trying to do an important job.
But they have some trouble.
And the trouble is that they don't really know how to get where they need to go.
They don't know the streets.
So they don't know the names of the streets very well.
But they probably don't know where the streets go very well, either.
I'm sure we all want to see today's conversations, but it's important to learn
our key words with Christina first.
Hello.
(Chinese).
Are you ready?
I am!
Let's go.
Do you have your camera?
Yes. Do you have the directions?
No. But we can find the place.
OK.
This is a really important story.
Right. Let's hurry.
Are we taking your car?
No. Let's take the station's truck.
Oh, no. I think I see a problem.
There was something very important that Ken and Susie did not bring with them.
I think they were in a hurry.
Hmm. Yes, they were trying to leave quickly.
But what was so important, Katie?
Well, they didn't bring the directions.
Those are very important.
Really? Why do they need directions?
Nathan, directions tell you how to go somewhere.
They're very helpful.
I don't know why men always think they don't need directions.
Men?
Susie was the one who thought they could find the place without directions.
And she's not a man.
Well, Nathan, do you often take instructions when you go somewhere?
Hmm, actually, I do if I'm going somewhere I've never been before.
Well, only if I think it will be hard to get there.
Sometimes it sounds very easy to get places.
But sometimes it sounds easier than it actually is, right?
Yeah, that's right.
But it's usually OK not to take directions if you have someone to call or a map
to look at.
Well, that does help.
And I think that something else can help a lot, too.
Hmm. Someone to help you look at the map while you drive?
Well, that would help, too, but sometimes you have to drive alone.
No. I was thinking that it helps if you were driving a car that you are used to.
Oh, I see.
Then you don't have to worry about how the car works.
You can just think about where you need to go.
But Ken and Susie didn't take Susie's car.
They took the station's truck.
That's right.
If you take a car, you use it to drive.
I hope the truck isn't too hard to drive.
But they should still take directions or a map.
Do you have a map when you drive, Nathan?
Yes. I don't use them a lot, but I have a few maps in my car.
Well, now I think that Christina would like to teach us a little more about the
kind of question that Katie just asked.
So let's see her together right now.
(Chinese).
Ken, where are you and Susie?
You're lost?
OK. I can talk to Carol and call you back.
They're lost?
Yes.
This is a really important story, too.
It's about a big accident.
They need to get there fast!
Tell them this:
Go east on Spring Road. Look for Bob's Gas Station.
Turn right at the gas station.
OK. I'll tell them.
Katie, you were right.
Ken and Susie should have brought directions with them.
They were probably trying to leave too quickly.
Well, see? Directions can help a lot.
But at least they have some help from their friends.
Yes. They didn't bring directions, but they called Megan and Carol for
directions.
Megan will tell them how to get to the place.
Well, she'll tell them!
Nathan, I think it's time to talk about something new.
Oh, you're right.
I'll tell them.
It's time for today's Calendar Phrase.
I'll tell them.
I'll tell them.
(Chinese).
Did Fred and Mary hear the news?
I'll tell them.
Did John and Susie hear the news?
I'll tell them.
Did Mike and Betty hear the news?
I'll tell them.
Great. Go tell them.
OK. But what's the news?
I didn't hear it.
I'll tell them.
I'll tell them.
(Chinese).
Well, that's always fun.
Don't forget to practice your Calendar Phrase, everyone.
OK, Nathan, what's next?
Hmm. I think I'll tell them about using the word "lost," Katie.
If you don't know where you are right now, you can say: I'm lost.
But what should you say if you have been lost before, Katie?
Hmm. Well, do any of you know?
Well, you can say I got lost.
Like: I got lost on the way to your house.
But we hope that you don't get lost, everyone.
No. It can make you kind of nervous when you get lost.
But sometimes it happens.
Susie and Ken got lost on the way to the accident.
That's right.
They were going to an accident.
Something bad happened.
What kind of accident was it, Nathan?
Hmm. Well, when you talk about an accident like this, it's usually a car
accident.
Susie and Ken need to put this big car accident on the news.
So I hope that they follow the directions carefully.
Hey, now it's a good time to talk to Christina about some directions.
(Chinese).
I think that should help us all understand directions a little better.
But do you think you can give instructions in English to everyone?
Well, if you don't think so, we have just what you need right now:
A Use It sentence.
So let's learn about it.
(Music).
Hi, friends.
Today we're learning how to use the verb "turn" with "at the." For example, you
could tell someone to...
Turn right at the school.
Or you could say: Turn left at the supermarket.
Got it?
Then don't be afraid to use it.
OK. That was great, Elizabeth.
And now, I have some directions for you.
Take a break and come back in a few minutes.
We'llsee you very soon.
