Welcome to our Saturday review show, everyone.
It's great to see you today.
Thanks for giving English some of your time.
Yes. It's good to practice every day for at least 10 minutes.
Then you can really improve.
Now today we're going to look back at all of our lessons.
Do you remember what happened this week at LTE TV?
Well, I remember that Rob had a guest.
She was an ice skater.
And I remember that Ken got sick.
He went home to get some rest.
And we had a special eREPORT this week.
What was it about? Bowling.
But maybe you missed some lessons or maybe you just want to see them all again.
Now, though, it's time for us to get started with today's review.
(Music).
Hi, Ken.
Hey, you don't look very good.
Thanks, Susie.
You look sick.
Are you OK?
I have a cold.
Why don't you go home?
I can't.
I have too much work.
But I don't feel well.
Talk to Carol.
She will understand.
OK. I can do that now.
What's wrong, Ken?
You look terrible!
Thanks, Mark.
Are you feeling OK?
No. My throat is sore.
And I have a headache.
Then go home and go to bed!
I'm going to Carol's office now.
I'll ask her first.
Then I can go home.
Feel better soon!
Hi, Carol.
Can I go home?
I feel sick.
Yes. You look sick.
Thanks, Carol.
Do you have a fever?
No. But I have a sore throat.
You probably have a cold.
You can go home.
Thanks, Carol.
I just can't work today.
I'm sorry.
Don't worry about work.
Go home and get better!
Ken, how are you feeling?
A little better.
But now I have a cough.
Are you taking any medicine?
Yes. I bought some at the drugstore.
Good. Be sure to rest, too!
I will.
Can you do something for me?
Sure!
What?
There are some important papers on my desk.
Can you bring them to me?
What are you doing, Susie?
I'm getting some papers for Ken.
I'll take them to his apartment later.
Isn't he sick?
Yes. But he wants to do some work at home.
He should get some rest.
I know.
Ken is ill.
He should be sleeping, not working!
Does Ken need anything else?
He might!
Hi, Mark.
Uh, what's in that box?
These are things for Ken.
He's sick today.
Susie is taking some stuff to him later.
Poor Ken.
I know.
We're giving him a DVD, a book, some tissues and some vitamin C.
Great!
Those things will help him.
But you forgot something.
What's that?
Hot soup!
Order some now!
Hi, Ken.
Uh, Ken?
Oh, sorry, Rob.
I was just thinking.
What were you thinking about?
The Olympics.
I watch it every night.
Me, too!
Did you see the games last night?
Canada did really well!
I know!
So, what sport is your favorite?
That's easy.
Hockey!
I'd love to play it in the Olympics!
I love skating fast over the ice.
And if I score a goal?
Wow!
Nice goal, Ken!
Thanks, Super Sentence Man!
This is the biggest game of our lives.
But we can win!
We can!
I'll steal the puck from that guy over there.
Then I'll pass it to you!
OK! The other players are waiting.
Let's go!
(Music).
Ken?
Ken!
What are you thinking about now?
I was dreaming about playing hockey.
But I'm not very good at it.
You can practice and get better.
Maybe I'll do that.
But we can watch the big game tonight!
My favorite team is playing--Canada!
Good idea!
Should we watch the game at my apartment or yours?
Mine.
And don't forget to wear Canada's colors!
(Music).
Hello, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk!
Do you like the Olympics?
Well, on today's show, we are going to talk to a famous Olympic skater.
Please help me welcome Ms. Sasha Skater.
Sasha, you're a famous Olympic skater.
You won a gold medal at the Olympics several years ago!
I did. I feel very proud.
You should feel proud!
Not many people win a medal at the Olympics.
Well, all of the athletes work really hard.
I'm sure they do.
How many hours a day did you practice?
I practiced five to seven hours a day.
Getting ready for the Olympics is a full-time job!
It really is.
I trained six days a week for many, many years!
When did you start skating?
I began lessons when I was 5 years old.
I had talent, so I took more lessons.
Then I started to compete in competitions.
Do you like being a skater?
I love it!
If I didn't love it, I couldn't work so hard!
But you don't compete now.
No, I'm a coach now.
I teach young skaters.
You must have a lot to tell them!
I do.
But I really just want them to enjoy the sport!
You can work hard and have fun, too!
Do you have any advice for young athletes?
Yes.
Being an athlete is very hard work!
But if you love a sport, you should do it!
eREPORT.
Hello, friends.
This is Gabe, and this is eREPORT.
Now, what kinds of sports can you think of that use balls?
Hmm. Well, there's tennis.
A tennis ball.
And there's soccer.
Now what else uses a ball?
Well, of course, you're thinking of basketball.
OK. Well, we're going to learn about something that also uses a ball.
But this ball is a little bit heavier.
That's right, we're going bowling today at a bowling alley.
Bowling.
Bowling is a sport with a long history.
A long time ago, people threw stones outside at other stones.
The person who threw the stone closest to the other stones won.
That game soon became bowling.
Today people go to a bowling alley and throw a ball.
A bowling ball rolls down a lane and knocks down the pins.
But before you play, you need to wear the right shoes.
The floor of a bowling lane is very smooth.
So all bowlers need to wear special bowling shoes.
You can rent them or bring your own.
After you pay and get your bowling shoes, you can go to your lane.
There are often many lanes for guests.
OK. Well, I have my bowling shoes and I found my lane.
It is lane number... seven.
Lucky seven.
Well, I think I'm ready to go... except...
Wait a minute.
I'm missing something.
What am I missing?
Oh, I'm missing a bowling ball.
Of course!
Silly me!
Now where can I find a bowling ball?
Over there.
No. Over there.
Some people buy their own bowling ball.
But many people don't own a bowling ball.
So they borrow a ball at the bowling alley.
There are usually many choices.
The balls are of different sizes and weights.
When you find the right ball for you, take it to your lane.
When you are ready to throw the ball, remember to hold the ball correctly.
There are often three holes in a bowling ball.
You put your fingers in them.
Then get ready to throw your ball.
Take a few steps back.
Look where the pins are.
And then throw the ball.
It looks very easy, but it isn't.
Sometimes the ball can roll off the lane.
For children, there's sometimes a special lane.
OK. Try again.
(Background Noise).
Great job.
When the ball knocks down all 10 pins, it is called a strike.
It's the same word in baseball.
But in bowling, a strike is a very good thing.
A player will get more points when he gets a strike.
A full game of bowling is 10 rounds.
Bowling is a fun and popular sport that you can play any day.
People love to go bowling because it is easy to learn and a great way to
exercise indoors.
When you throw a bowling ball, you use a lot of muscles in your arms, legs and
back.
(Music).
Well, bowling is a lot of fun.
But I need to take a break because my arm is really sore.
You know, bowling is a great sport to do on your own or with friends.
But of course, I would rather bowl with friends.
It's a lot of fun.
And now I think you should try bowling.
It's a great sport to do indoors.
OK.
Well, it looks like I have one more ball.
So wish me luck.
Good luck.
Thanks.
All right.
This is Gabe for eREPORT going bowling.
(Music).
Now that you've seen all our lessons again, let's see how much you can remember.
I'll show you a picture of one of this week's key words.
You tell me what it is.
Here we go.
Hmm. Do you know what key word this is, Katie?
Oh, I think so.
That looks like a coach.
A basketball coach.
Good job, Katie.
It is a coach, and that was a key word on Thursday.
Nathan, do you remember the coach we met this week?
Hmm, a coach?
I don't think we met a coach this week.
But we did meet an athlete, though.
Her name was Sasha.
Oh. But Nathan, she doesn't skate anymore.
She's a coach now.
Oh. Now I remember.
She teaches young skaters.
Now, I think we have time for one more picture.
So, what key word is this?
Hmm. Well, I think it looks like that boy might be sick.
Is that the key word?
Sorry. Guess again.
There's a better key word for this picture.
Oh. Well, he's mom is seeing if he feels hot.
So the key word is fever.
Aha! Good job, and just in time, because right now we need to go to a break.
Please join us again in afew minutes.
