Welcome back.
Today our lesson is called Sports in the Olympics.
And we're learning a lot about one sport -- hockey.
Hockey is when you put a puck into a goal.
And do you know who loves to play hockey?
Ken loves playing hockey.
We just saw him playing a game with Super Sentence Man.
I wonder what will happen.
I guess we'll see in Conversation C.
Ken? Ken!
What are you thinking about now?
I was dreaming about playing hockey.
But I'm not very good at it.
You can practice and get better.
Maybe I'll do that.
But we can watch the big game tonight!
My favorite team is playing--Canada!
Good idea!
Should we watch the game at my apartment or yours?
Mine.
And don't forget to wear Canada's colors!
(Music).
Well, I guess that you were right, Nathan.
Ken was actually seeing hockey in his dreams.
He wasn't asleep, but he was daydreaming.
Yeah. He was seeing it happen in his head even though he was awake.
Now he says he's not very good at playing hockey, but he scored a goal in his
dream.
Well, he did a great job.
But that teaches us a good lesson.
If we want to follow our dreams, it will probably take a lot of practice.
Oh, that is right.
We can't reach our dreams without some hard work.
But we'll get better with hard work, too.
That's right.
And "get better" is an easy way to say "improve." You can get better at playing
a sport.
You can get better at meeting people.
Mmhm.
And you know we also say that you can get better when you are sick.
You can also get better at English.
That's right.
So that's why you have to keep practicing.
And we should keep learning.
Now Ken doesn't really play hockey.
But they can still watch the big game tonight.
And that's good.
The big game is just a very important game that you want to watch.
If you win the game, maybe you can play again.
But if you lose, you might have to stop playing for the year.
So, Nathan, why is this a big game?
Well, Canada is playing.
And that's Ken's favorite team.
So he really wants to watch that game.
He'll even wear Canada's colors -- red and white.
Oh, those are the colors on Canada's flag.
So what are your country's colors?
Think about that question.
Right now, though, we need to review our key words from today.
So please say them with us right now.
The first key word is...
hockey.
hockey.
My brother is on the hockey team.
think.
think.
What are you thinking about?
pass.
pass.
A good player passes the ball.
score.
score.
The player scored!
The team won!
goal.
goal.
Maya scored a goal in the soccer game.
wear.
wear.
Katie, don't wear that green shirt.
OK. Those are all of our key words for today.
Make sure that you practice them, and your English will get better.
Right now we're going to review our conversations from today.
Hi, Ken.
Uh, Ken?
Oh, sorry, Rob.
I was just thinking.
What were you thinking about?
The Olympics.
I watch it every night.
Me, too!
Did you see the games last night?
Canada did really well!
I know!
So, what sport is your favorite?
That's easy.
Hockey!
I'd love to play it in the Olympics!
I love skating fast over the ice.
And if I score a goal?
Wow!
Nice goal, Ken!
Thanks, Super Sentence Man!
This is the biggest game of our lives.
But we can win!
We can!
I'll steal the puck from that guy over there.
Then I'll pass it to you!
OK!
The other players are waiting.
Let's go!
Ken?
(Music).
Wow. Ginger, wasn't that great?
Yeah. Wasn't what great, Monkey Man?
The games!
Did you see the games on TV last night?
Oh, yeah. I love game shows.
I know all the answers.
No. No. No, Ginger, not TV game shows.
The Olympic games are on TV.
Oh. The Olympic games!
Yeah. I love to watch the Olympics every night.
Wow. Hey, Monkey Man, what sport is your favorite?
Well, that's easy.
I love hockey!
Ooh. Why?
Well, because players skate fast over the ice.
They steal the puck.
Then they pass it.
Hooray! They score a goal!
Hooray! Hooray! Ya-hoo!
I love hockey.
I know.
(Music).
We have talked about the Olympics a lot this month.
We hope that you are enjoying it so far and that you're still learning many
things.
Maybe you learned something about hockey today.
Many places don't play much hockey.
Maybe you have never played hockey before.
But we can still learn a lot of good English when we talk about hockey.
That's right.
You have to pass and score in many different sports.
We talked about basketball and soccer.
You pass the ball in those sports.
So those are great words for you to know in English.
And all of the phrases we talked about are good for many topics, not only
sports.
So what sport will we talk about tomorrow?
You'll just have to wait and see when you join us again right here on...
Let's Talk in English.
Goodbye.
(Music).
