Thanks for coming back and joining us for the rest of the lesson.
Isn't this a great lesson?
We're talking about the Olympics.
Sometimes the Olympics are in the summer.
Sometimes they're in the winter.
That's right.
And when you watch the Olympics, you can watch your favorite athletes.
And when you watch them, you might cheer for your favorite athlete.
You want to say, "Go! Go! Go!" or "Good job." Now let's see what else there is
to learn about the Olympics in Conversation C.
This website has everything!
What should we look at first?
We can learn about Russia.
The site has a lot about Russia!
Or we can learn about the teams and sports at the Olympics.
Sounds interesting!
You can buy tickets to the games here, too!
There's not enough time now.
But maybe we can go to the Summer Olympics - in two years!
Rob and Megan are learning more about the Olympics online.
And Rob says this website has everything!
Well, wow. That must mean that there's a lot to look at on that website.
There's a lot to read there.
Yes.
And if there's a lot to read, that means there's a lot they can learn about the
Olympics.
Well, I want to know about Russia, too.
Do you know where the Olympics are in Russia, Nathan?
Yes. They're held in a place called Sochi.
It's in Western Russia.
And do you want to know something else that's cool about Sochi, Katie?
Well, of course, and I'm sure our friends do, too.
Sochi, Russia, is warmer than most places in Russia.
Russia's usually really cold.
But Sochi is not.
Wow, that is interesting.
But how is it going to be snowy there for the Winter Olympics?
Great question.
The people in charge of the Olympics in Russia have been saving snow all winter
long.
That way there will be snow there if the weather isn't cold.
Oh, well, that's so smart.
That's a great idea.
You have to have snow for the Winter Olympics.
Of course.
If there's no snow, people can't ski.
And it would be hard to skate without snow and ice, too.
Well, I think our friends at the station have a lot to learn about Russia.
But they can also learn about the teams at all the different sports at the
Olympics.
Well, hey, Nathan, I know something cool about the Olympics sports.
OK, Katie. Why don't you tell me?
Everyone wants to know.
Well, did you know that there are seven different sports in these Winter
Olympics?
I think that's pretty cool.
Yeah. And which is your favorite to watch?
Ooh. Well, I like the bobsled.
I think it's so cool how fast they go down the track.
I would be scared to try it.
That's great, Katie.
Well, friends, I think it's time for us to review our key words now.
Please say them with us.
Here is the first key word.
Olympics.
Olympics.
The Winter Olympics begin this week.
cheer.
cheer.
Let's cheer for Katie.
She won!
athlete.
athlete.
My sister is an athlete.
She runs fast.
team.
team.
Lucy joined the team.
Let's welcome her.
sport.
sport.
Biking is a fun sport.
OK. Those are all the key words that we have for today.
Make sure that you practice them at home.
Right now we're going to review our conversations from today.
Hi, Megan.
Are you coming to my Olympics party on Friday?
What kind of party?
The Winter Olympics starts this Friday.
We can watch the opening ceremony on TV together!
That sounds fun!
I don't know much about this year's Olympics.
The games are in Russia.
And they last until February 23.
I plan to watch the games every night after work!
Wow, you're a big fan!
What's your favorite Olympic sport?
I like them all.
But I especially like speed skating.
I like to watch the skiing.
Do you have a favorite athlete?
No, but I always cheer for the U.S.!
I do, too!
Now I'm getting really excited about the Winter Olympics!
Let's learn more about them online.
This website has everything!

(Background Noise).
Hey, Ginger, what's this thing?
It's a sled.
And why do you have a sled?
Ooh, Monkey Man, I'm going to ride it.
Sorry, Ginger, you're going to ride a sled?
Yeah. Why not?
Well, there's no snow in here.
I'm not going to ride it here.
Well, then where are you going to ride it?
In Russia.
I'm going to ride it in the Winter Olympics.
Ginger, you can't ride this in the Olympics.
Well, why not?
I can ride really fast.
Well, first of all, Ginger, you're not an athlete.
And second, you're not on a team.
Then what can I do?
Well, you can cheer for your favorite team. Go! Go! Go!
Yeah! Go! Go!
Go! Monkeys, go! Go! Monkeys, go!
Monkeys?
(Music).
Well, friends, do you know more about the Olympics now?
How about you, Katie?
Well, I think I do.
And I know that I'm even more excited now to watch the games.
Are you going to have a party for the opening ceremony, Nathan?
Hmm, I don't know yet.
That would be fun.
So we hope you all get to watch the Olympic Games.
It's a great event to watch.
Yes. It's fun to see people from all over the world come together.
I think that's really special.
And we'll find out more about it tomorrow.
We're going to talk about the Olympics a little more in tomorrow's lesson.
And that means that we'll learn even more cool things about the Winter Olympics
then.
But for now I think it's time for us to go.
See you next time here on...
Let's Talk in English.
Bye-bye.
(Music).
