It's a great day here at the LTE TV studio.
Thanks for joining us.
My name is Nathan, and I am one of your teachers here on the show.
Now today we have a new topic:
TRANSPORTATION.
And our lesson is called This Traffic is Terrible!
This Traffic is Terrible!
Katie, do you like to drive in terrible traffic?
No, Nathan, I do not like to drive in terrible traffic.
When the traffic is terrible, there's too many cars, and it's a little scary.
Hi, everyone.
My name is Katie, and I'm your other teacher here on the show.
I'm really excited to be here today.
And are you excited to practice your reading?
Find your Read It in today's LTE lesson and read it with Katie now.
Ken was late this morning.
The traffic was terrible!
There was a storm last night.
A tree fell across North Street and the cars couldn't pass!
The roads were also icy.
Most people were driving slowly.
But some people had accidents because of the slippery roads.
Ken was stuck in that traffic jam for two hours!
Oh, no, that really is terrible traffic.
Poor Ken.
Yeah, that would be awful.
I hate getting stuck in terrible traffic because then you're late to work.
Yeah.
Have you ever seen a tree block traffic, Katie?
I have.
One time when I was in Asia, a tree fell down after a typhoon and blocked off
the whole street.
Yep. That would cause some terrible traffic.
OK. Now let's learn our key words with our word lady, Christina.
Hello.
(Chinese).
(Background Noise).
Hi, Ken.
Where were you this morning?
I didn't see you.
I was late.
The traffic was terrible!
Really?
I took the subway this morning.
Why was the traffic so bad?
A tree fell across North Street during the storm last night.
Some men were working to get it off the road.
I see.
Yes, a tree will stop traffic!
(Music).
Wow. This sounds like a terrible storm.
It made a tree fall down.
Oh, you're right, Nathan.
This storm sounds like it was kind of scary.
If a tree fell down, the wind must have been blowing really hard.
You are right about that, Katie.
And this storm made Ken late to work because the tree made the traffic terrible.
Ugh, terrible traffic.
It's hard to deal with that when you drive a car.
Sometimes it's easy to get annoyed with other drivers.
Yes, that is true.
Katie, if you're stuck in traffic, what does that mean?
Well, getting stuck in traffic means that you can't move your car.
You can't go anywhere.
There are so many cars on the road that no one can drive.
And that makes people late to work or where they have to be.
So, should you get mad at the other drivers, though, Katie?
Well, no, you should not get mad at the other drivers.
Getting mad won't help.
And it can make driving a car really unsafe.
That's true, too.
It's important to stay calm - even if the traffic is really bad.
Yes. A mad driver could cause a really big problem on the road.
That's why sometimes I think the subway is very convenient.
Then you don't have to worry about being on the road and getting angry as much.
Well, you're right about that.
I used to drive a car every day in Texas.
The traffic made me nervous.
So I like to take the subway.
I also think it's more convenient than trying to drive a car.
So what about you, everyone?
Do you like to drive a car?
Would you rather take the subway?
And what do you do in bad traffic?
Well, I think that right now we should go to Christina.
She wants to talk to you all about the sentence:
Some men were working to get it off the road.
(Chinese).
(Music).
That's not all!
I took the bus, and we passed four accidents!
Four?!
The roads are icy because of all the snow.
Some drivers couldn't control their cars.
When the roads are slippery, drivers should be extra careful.
I know.
Most people were driving very slowly.
That's good.
But the subway is much safer today.
Well, here's another reason I like the subway.
Sometimes you can get into a car accident when you drive.
And that is very scary.
Car accidents - they can be really bad.
Oh, and in our conversation today, Ken passed four accidents.
Well, that just means that he drove by four different accidents.
But that's a lot of accidents for one morning, Nathan.
Yeah, Katie.
But I think that the accidents were because the roads were icy.
Oh, if the roads were icy, the weather must have really been bad, and it must've
been very cold outside.
That's right.
Very cold.
It's so important to be very careful when you drive a car if it's cold outside,
everyone.
That's true.
It's easy for the roads to get icy.
And then if you're driving, it's hard to make your car stop.
If you can't stop your car, that means you can't control your car, just like our
conversation says.
Well, thanks, Nathan.
Now have you ever been in an accident?
I have been in an accident.
I was on a scooter with a friend.
But we did not have an accident because the roads were icy.
What about you, Katie?
Well, I have been in one accident and it was scary.
Our car rolled over when it was icy outside.
Now friends, that's why it's really important to be careful when you're driving
a car.
I guess so.
Now Ken says most people were driving slowly.
That is a good tip.
If the weather is bad, don't drive too fast.
Yes, it's much safer to drive slowly.
If you're driving slower, you can stop your car a little easier when you need
to.
OK. Now let's go to Christina.
She has something to say about the phrase: because of.
(Chinese).
All right, that was some great help from Christina.
I hope you all know more about the phrase: because of.
Right now it's time for us to take a quick break.
But we'll be rightback after that.
