Welcome back, everyone.
We want to go back to our Cleaning Day lesson.
Ken is in the studio.
He has a big job.
He has to clean everything there.
That's right.
And that leads us to our next part.
There are hard jobs and there are easy jobs.
Ken has a hard job, but there are some easy jobs like cleaning your office or
cleaning your room.
Well, now we need to go watch Conversation C.
Thanks.
I really need the extra help.
Oh! Bring your broom.
OK.
What else?
Um... soap and water.
Got it.
I'll come in...
And some paper towels.
We need paper towels.
OK.
I can bring...
And one more thing!
What is it? I can't carry anything else!
Can you bring a radio?
We can listen to music while we clean!
Well, Ken is my kind of guy.
That means we are like each other in some way.
We both like to listen to music while we do other things, like working or
running.
Do you do that, Katie?
Well, yeah!
I love listening to music when I'm on my computer or writing on the subway.
And cleaning is a great job for listening to music.
It can make it much more fun.
Right.
You don't have to think about a lot of other things, so you can listen to some
music at the same time.
And if I don't have music to listen to, sometimes I just sing or whistle while I
work.
Well, that does not surprise me at all, Nathan.
But don't you think some jobs are not so good for listening to music?
Oh... oh, sure.
I sometimes listen to music when I'm working at my desk, but not when I'm
reading something.
Sometimes I think more about the music than what I'm reading.
Yes. You need to think about only what you're working on for some jobs.
So what else is good to have when you are cleaning?
Hmm. Extra help!
If more people are working together, the cleaning gets done much faster.
Oh, I agree.
And more people can make it more fun, too, just like you said that made your
summer cleaning job better.
It really did.
So it's good to have music and extra help.
What else is good to have for cleaning?
Ooh, I know.
Paper towels are very useful for cleaning, too.
It's great to have those.
Paper towels?
Towels are what we use for drying after washing or cleaning.
But aren't they made out of cloth?
Well, yes, but if you just say towel, I will think of what I use to dry off
after a shower.
But they also make small pieces of paper that are great for drying or wiping
things.
Oh, OK, I got it.
That just means I understand.
I got it.
Got it?
Hmm.
Great.
Well, we hope that you understand all of today's lesson.
And to make sure that you do, we want to practice today's key words with you.
Here's your first key word for today.
stuff.
stuff.
Grandma's house is full of old stuff.
mop.
mop.
The floor is wet. I just mopped.
sweep.
sweep.
The floor is dirty. Will you sweep it?
broom.
broom.
You need a broom to sweep.
soap.
soap.
Jon doesn't use soap. He smells bad.
OK, friends, those are all of today's keys... key words.
Make sure that you practice them at home.
Right now, we're going to review today's conversations.
How is the cleaning going?
Not very well.
We have a lot of stuff in the studio.
How about you?
I'm cleaning the office area now.
What do you still need to clean in the office?
I just need to sweep the floor.
That's not bad.
You can finish that quickly.
After I finish, I can help you in the studio.
What are other people cleaning?
Mark is mopping the floors.
And Rob is organizing old DVD copies of our shows.
That sounds hard.
Maybe my job isn't so bad!
I'm glad we have cleaning day every year.
Yes. But I don't like cleaning.
I don't like cleaning, either.
But I hate messes!
I'll hurry and finish sweeping.
Then I can help you.
Thanks.
I really need the extra help.
Oh! Bring your broom.
OK.
What else?
Um... soap and water.
Got it.
I'll come in...
And some paper towels.
We need paper towels.
OK, I can bring...
And one more thing!
What is it? I can't carry anything else!
Can you bring a radio?
We can listen to music while we clean!
(Music).
So, Ginger, how's the cleaning going?
Not very well. I don't like throwing things away.
Well, that's true, but I have to say this place looks better.
I don't like cleaning.
I don't like cleaning, either.
But I hate messes.
Well, the messes are gone now.
I'm finished cleaning.
Well, did you sweep the floor?
No.
Did you mop the floor?
No.
Well, then you still have work to do.
Oh! Monkey Man! I'm tired.
OK, OK, um...
I'll help you.
I'll mop the floor and you sweep.
Oh! Thanks, Monkey Man.
Good night.
Good night?
Ginger?
Wake up, you have to sweep.
Sweep?
Oh! I thought you said sleep.
No, Ginger, not sleep.
Sweep!
Come on.
Cleaning is a dirty job.
But someone has to do it.
I'm Alan.
And I'm a janitor.
Janitors clean indoor places.
They clean offices, businesses, schools and stores.
We sweep and mop floors.
We empty trash cans.
We clean windows and counters.
Without us, many people would have very dirty workplaces.
You might get sick more often, too.
Since janitors use soap and cleaning products to kill germs.
Some janitors work during the day.
They work in schools to keep floors clean and clean up messes that kids make.
Some work in stores.
So if someone drops eggs on the floor in a supermarket, a janitor will come and
clean it right away.
Other janitors work after people go home from work.
They clean empty offices.
People are happy to come back the next day to a nice, clean office.
Next time you see a janitor, you should be sure to thank them.
I'm a janitor.
And this is my job.
Every day is cleaning day for a janitor.
Many of us don't really like cleaning.
So it's good to have someone who enjoys it, and they can do it for their job.
They are happy to clean for their job.
Yes, I think that we should all be thankful to janitors.
I'm sure there are janitors at your school or office.
So remember to say "thank you" to them.
Great idea.
But we still need to clean our own homes, too.
If we don't clean for a long time, then things will just keep getting dirtier.
It's better to just clean more often.
That's true.
Maybe you could plan a cleaning day for your house sometime soon.
You can clean and get rid of things that you don't need.
Well, we hope that you've had a great time with us today.
Come back for more English fun tomorrow right here on...
Let's Talk in English.
Bye-bye.
