Welcome back.
Today our lesson is called Cleaning Day.
And why is it called this?
The office is a mess, so everyone needs to clean up.
And if something is a mess, it's very dirty.
Some people like cleaning and some people don't like cleaning.
How about you?
That's right.
And when you have a big job to do like cleaning an office, it's important to
just get started.
Well, now we need to go on to Conversation C and learn some more.
Next, we can wash your windows.
My windows are pretty dirty.
This cleaning job is easy.
But Ken's job is hard.
What is Ken's job?
Ken is cleaning the whole studio!
The lights, the cameras... everything!
Does he need any help?
Yes. I can help him later.
Right now I'm helping you!
Megan is going to help Ken, too?
That's very nice of her.
But she does like cleaning.
So she's probably happy to do it.
And I think she must be very good at cleaning, too.
Carol thinks her windows are pretty dirty.
But Megan says her office is easy to clean.
You're right, Nathan.
If I thought something was pretty dirty, I probably wouldn't say it was easy to
clean.
Me, neither.
Now you might not understand how something is pretty dirty.
Dirty things usually aren't pretty.
But I think Christina can help us all understand.
(Chinese).
Do you understand?
So you can say that a movie is pretty good.
Or you can say that a shirt is pretty ugly.
It sounds funny, but we do it in English all the time.
Or we could say that we do it pretty often.
See?
Now let's talk about another word that can be used in different ways, too.
Job.
Job usually means what you do for work, how you make money.
Oh, that's right.
But Megan talks about their cleaning job.
They're not cleaning to make money.
That kind of job is just something you need to do.
So if you're at school and you're working with a team, you all probably have
different jobs to do.
One person needs to find information on the Internet.
Another person needs to write it down.
And those are all different jobs.
But I can think of a different meaning, too, Nathan.
Oh, really?
What other meaning is there?
Well, there are many kinds of jobs.
There are outdoor jobs.
There are jobs you do at home or at school.
There are big jobs.
There are little jobs.
And there's Steve Jobs.
OK.
Ha, ha.
Katie, very funny.
Hey, I wonder how many cleaning jobs we can think of.
Uh, what is there, Katie?
Well, I know that there's sweeping.
And there is wiping down your table.
And there's cleaning your windows.
That's true.
But we have a different job now.
We need to review our key words for today.
Here's the first key word.
dirt.
dirt.
There is dirt on your shoes.
box.
box.
What is in the box?
Open it!
throw [something] away.
throw [something] away.
Throw the food away. It's old.
wash.
wash.
Wash your hands.
embarrassed.
embarrassed.
Katie is embarrassed.
Her face is red.
OK, friends, those are all of the key words for today.
Make sure that you review them at home.
Right now we're going to review our conversations from today.
This office is a mess!
I'm a little embarrassed.
Don't be.
Today is cleaning day!
Everybody's office is a mess.
I don't like cleaning day.
But we need it every year!
Dirt gets into small places.
We need to clean them!
I know.
Thank you for your help.
I like to clean!
Today will be fun!
So, where do we start?
You can clean out these old boxes of papers.
I can clean your desk.
Some of these papers are really old.
Why do I still have them?
Who knows?
Throw them away!
You're right.
I don't need them anymore.
This is a new year.
I want a clean office!
(Music).
Hi, Monkey Man.
Uh, Ginger, this place is a mess!
I know.
Isn't it great?
No, it's not great.
You should be embarrassed.
Embarrassed?
No, I like it.
Well, let's have a cleaning day today.
How about that?
Oh, no!
Oh, yes. Let's clean up this mess.
Well, do we have to throw things away?
Yes. Let's start throwing some things away that we don't use anymore.
I don't like cleaning.
Now, where do we start?
Ooh, ooh, with your things.
My things?
Yeah. Let's throw your things away.
No. Let's throw your things away first.
Say goodbye to your things, Monkey Man.
Cleaning was your idea.
But I want to keep this first, OK?
(Music).
Well, after this lesson, I feel like I need to go and clean my office, too.
I think it probably needs some work.
How about you, Nathan?
Well, actually my desk is pretty clean.
I might need to clean some other things.
But my room at home might need some cleaning.
It's kind of a mess.
I see.
Well, everyone, do you need to do some cleaning?
Remember, if you don't know where to start, just pick something to do first.
If you don't, you'll never get started.
And don't forget to clean the small places.
They can get very dirty.
And don't be afraid to throw some stuff away if you won't use it.
That's right.
And that's all of our time for now.
But come back tomorrow to join us here on...
Let's Talk in English.
Bye-bye.
(Music).
