Welcome to today's show, everyone.
It's great to see you today for another English lesson.
My name is Nathan.
And I am one of your teachers here on Let's Talk in English.
Today we want to continue our topic on HEALTH.
And our lesson is still called Exercise Every Day!
Exercise Every Day!
Katie, what do you use when you go exercise?
Well, that's a great question, Nathan.
I often use a water bottle that I can hold while I'm running.
And this water bottle has a place where I can put my phone so I can listen to
music, too.
It's very useful.
Hi, everyone, my name is Katie.
And I'm your other teacher here on the show.
We've got a lot to learn today.
But before we get started, I want to ask Nathan a question.
What do you use when you exercise?
Well, when I go running, I also like to have my music.
So I take my iPod and earphones.
But sometimes I exercise at home and I need a mat to put on the ground.
Oh. I also sometimes use a mat on the ground whenever I exercise at home inside.
That's something else useful you can use.
OK, right now, we need to learn today's key words with Christina.
Hi.
(Chinese).
(Music).
Exercise is good for your body.
But it is important to have the right workout gear.
Here are some good points to remember.
Wear sneakers that are comfortable.
Wearing the wrong sneakers can hurt your feet.
If you sweat a lot, bring a small towel to the gym.
Then you can wipe the machines after you finish exercising.
Don't forget to bring a water bottle.
It's important to drink water when you exercise.
There are a lot of good ideas in today's special Read It.
Do you have everything you need for exercising?
You can check this list.
Yes. You might need a water bottle, a towel or some sneakers.
Sneakers.
That reminds me of our...
Calendar Phrase.
Wear sneakers.
Wear sneakers.
(Chinese).
I'm going to go hiking.
Wear sneakers.
And I'm going to go running.
Wear sneakers.
I'm going to go rock climbing.
Wear sneakers.
So what are you going to do?
I'm going to go swimming.
Swimming?
Well, don't wear sneakers.
Wear sneakers.
Wear sneakers.
(Chinese).
You might need better sneakers for your exercise.
And exercise is so important.
Hey, Nathan, fill in the blank.
Exercise is a healthy (blank).
Hey, that was from yesterday, too.
Exercise is a healthy habit.
We can try to exercise something that we do without even thinking about it.
Now I have a fill in the blank for you, Katie.
Really?
Is it also something we learned yesterday?
No, we just heard about it in our Read It.
Exercise is good for your (blank).
Exercise is good for your (blank).
Oh! I remember!
Exercise is good for your body.
And there's some good English to remember in that sentence.
Something is good for something else.
Right.
Like: Reading is good for your brain.
Or: A coat is good for this weather.
Well, great job, Nathan!
Now we keep saying that exercise is important and it's good for you.
But here are some reasons for that.
First...
Just a second, Katie.
When Katie says "here are some reasons," she means that she will talk about some
reasons now.
OK, go ahead.
Thanks, Nathan.
First, exercise will help you be fit.
We learned that word yesterday.
Second, it will keep you healthy.
You will feel better if you exercise.
And third, you will get stronger.
But for now, let's keep exercising our English and see today's first
conversation.
Hey, guys.
What are you doing?
We're looking at a website that sells workout gear.
Why do you need workout gear?
We both go to Tyler's Gym.
Is that the new gym on First Street and Park Place?
Yes, it is.
When I exercise, I sweat a lot.
So I need to buy more T-shirts.
And I need some new sneakers.
Well, I think Ken paid attention to our Calendar Phrase.
He's going to get some new sneakers.
Nathan, do you use the word "sneaker" very often?
Actually, I don't.
I usually say tennis shoes instead.
But sneaker is still a good word to know.
What do you say, Katie?
Well, I usually say tennis shoes, too.
People from different places in the United States use different words.
So do you get new sneaker... I mean tennis shoes very often, Nathan?
Hmm... not too often.
I try to buy good sneakers that will last for a long time.
But when they aren't good for running anymore, I get some new ones.
Well, that's important.
You don't want your sneakers to hurt your feet.
Sometimes our feet may not feel good when we run.
But sneakers can cause other problems, too.
That's true.
If you don't have the right shoes, it might not be good for your knees or your
back, too.
So make sure you have good shoes or other workout gear.
Now you may not know the word: workout.
When you exercise in a gym, we say that you went to work out.
And right there it's two words.
That's right.
So when you go to exercise, we also call it a workout.
Just one word.
You can say:
I went to the gym to work out.
Or:
I got a workout at the gym.
Now yesterday, Rob and Ken went to Tyler's Gym.
Today Susie said where the gym is.
But if you thought that that was hard, don't worry.
Christina is here to help you now.
(Chinese).
Thank you, Christina.
Whew! That was an English workout.
But we hope that it helped you understand how to say where some things are in
the city.
Now it's time for us to take a break.
We'll be back very soon.
