You're watching Let's Talk in English.
It's a great day here at LTE TV.
My name is Katie.
And we're excited to teach you a lot of great English today.
Our new topic is HEALTH.
And the title of today's lesson is Exercise Every Day!
Exercise Every Day!
Nathan, do you exercise often?
I do try to exercise often.
But I don't think that I exercise every day.
Sometimes it's hard to find the time.
Hello, everyone.
My name is Nathan, and it's great to learn together with you today.
All right, it's time for us to get started.
So find your LTE magazine and turn to today's Read It.
You can read it with Nathan right now.
Rob and Ken are going to the new gym.
They like exercising.
Rob exercises to stay fit.
He likes to use weights.
They help him build strong muscles.
Ken likes to ride his bike.
But it is too cold in the winter.
He can try the treadmill.
It can show him his heart rate!
But first, they need to change their clothes.
Well, some of our friends are going to the gym today to exercise.
They like to exercise.
Do you like that, Nathan?
Well, that's a good question.
When I start doing a new exercise, I don't really like it.
But if I keep doing it, I like it more.
What about you, Katie?
Well, I like exercising.
It makes me feel healthy.
But sometimes we just don't feel like exercising because we feel tired.
OK, friends, now we need to learn all of our key words for today with Christina.
OK.
(Chinese).
(Music).
Tyler's Gym is really nice.
Yes, it is.
It's new.
When did it open?
It opened in November.
Do a lot of people go?
Not yet.
But more and more people go every day.
How often do you go?
I try to go three times a week.
So there's a new gym to use.
Maybe it's in a convenient place for all of us here at LTE TV.
That would be great.
Yes. There are many gyms in cities, but sometimes there are none near you.
It's nice if there is one nearby.
But I think we should talk a little about the word gym, Katie.
That's a good idea.
A gym can mean two different things in English.
First, it's a place that's inside where you can go exercise.
And that's what we're talking about today.
But the other kind of gym is a big open building where you can play many sports
like basketball.
Many schools have gyms where students can play or where they have gym class.
Well, I'm sure that kind of gym looks very different from Tyler's Gym.
And Tyler's Gym is new.
It's very nice to use, too.
Yeah. It might be in a new building.
Or it might just have new things to use for exercise.
There are always new machines to use for exercise.
Which exercise machines can you think of, Nathan?
Hmm. What exercise machines? Let's see...
Oh, oh, there's one where you do this.
And then there's one where you do this, too.
I'm already tired.
Can you think of any, Katie?
Well, how about this one where you go like this?
Yeah. And there are many others, too.
I'm sure that Rob knows all of them because he goes to the gym three times a
week.
That's really good.
It's good exercise and it's good English.
Rob goes to the gym three times a week.
That means he goes to the gym three days every week.
Oh, like I brush my teeth twice a day.
That is good English.
Now Nathan, how often do you think we should exercise?
Well, that's a really good question.
Maybe it's a good question for a doctor.
It would be good to try to exercise every day.
But a lot of people just don't have enough time to do that.
Maybe three or four times a week is a good place to start.
I think that's right.
I try to exercise about four times a week because I think that that keeps you
healthy.
Well, friends, we've learned a lot in this conversation.
But Christina always has more and more good English to teach us.
So let's go to her now.
(Chinese).
You must really like to exercise.
I do.
I want to stay fit.
That's great.
Exercise is important.
It's a healthy habit.
You like to exercise, too.
You like to ride your bike, right?
Right.
But it is too cold to ride a bike in the winter!
That's true.
You can ride an exercise bike inside the gym.
That's a good idea.
Rob and Ken both like to exercise.
That's good.
But there is another way to say that.
They both like exercising.
You can try both ways.
Yes.
Just remember this:
You like to do something.
Use a verb.
I like to read books.
But you like something.
You should use a noun.
I like reading.
Thanks, Katie.
Now Rob likes to go to the gym.
Ken likes to ride his bike.
They like to exercise in different ways.
What's your favorite way to exercise, Katie?
Well, I think that my favorite way to exercise is running or playing tennis.
I like both of them the same.
What about you, Nathan?
Well, I like running the most.
But remember that there are many good ways to exercise, everyone.
You can find a way that you enjoy.
Make a healthy habit for yourself.
That's a great idea.
And a habit is something that you do often.
You even do it without thinking about it.
There are bad habits.
But exercise is a great habit.
Why?
I think we can learn about that from our Calendar Phrase.
Exercise is important.
Exercise is important.
(Chinese).
We can go bike riding.
Exercise is important.
We can go walking.
Exercise is important.
We can go swimming.
Exercise is important.
Or we can sit and relax.
Good idea. Rest is important, too.
Exercise is important.
Exercise is important.
(Chinese).
That's right.
Exercise is very important.
Sometimes we're very busy or very tired or very lazy, so we don't exercise.
But I think that we all need to.
Nathan, you like running, right?
That's right.
I usually try to go running after work.
Hey, Katie, you asked that question like Rob asked the question in Conversation
B.
You said "right" at the end of the sentence.
Yes, I did.
That's an easy way to ask if you are right about something, right?
Right.
So you can ask things like:
You're an American, right?
Or we'll have bad weather tomorrow, right?
Well, those are great questions, Nathan.
And weather is something very important to remember when you are exercising.
If you can't go exercise outside because the weather is bad, you can find
something that you can do inside.
Right.
What are some ways that you can exercise inside?
Well, I think Elizabeth can help us with that.
I think I heard our Use It sentence.
(Music).
Let's learn how to use the sentence pattern.
You can do something inside somewhere.
Here's an example.
You can sleep inside the tent.
Here's another one.
You can walk around inside the store.
Till next time, friends.
Don't forget to use it.
(Music).
Well, great work, everyone.
Just like in exercise, sometimes it's good to take breaks.
That's right.
And I think now is a great time for us to take a break from our lesson.
But we'll be back verysoon.
