Welcome back.
Today our lesson is called Exercise Every Day!
And that's something great you can do.
Maybe you don't have to exercise every day, but you could exercise a few times a
week.
And some of our friends have a new gym to go to.
They can do some exercising inside.
Sometimes we need to, too.
OK. Right now let's look at Conversation C.
You can also try the treadmill.
You can walk or run on it.
It can even show you your heart rate.
What's your favorite exercise, Rob?
I like using weights.
They help me build stronger muscles!
Cool!
How do you use the weights?
Can you show me?
Sure.
Let's go get changed.
So that's Tyler's Gym.
It looks like they have a lot of things to use for exercise.
There might be a lot of things to try there for the first time.
I probably wouldn't know what to do with some of the machines at Tyler's Gym.
I might need to learn how to use some of the things first.
But we can always use the machines that we already know about.
Like treadmills.
Every gym has treadmills.
Sure.
Those are machines that let you run in one place.
Hey, that's a great way to run inside if the weather is too bad to run outside.
That's true.
You could try that sometime, Nathan.
But this must be a new treadmill, too.
It can show you your heart rate, and then you can know if you're running hard,
right?
Yes, I think it would be useful for that.
And there are weights at Tyler's Gym, too.
That's another good word to talk about.
Weight usually means how heavy something is.
But these weights are heavy things that you can pick up to exercise your
muscles.
They can be big or small so that you can choose how much you want to lift.
Right.
Different people need to use different kinds of weights.
But there are also many different kinds of weights to use.
Well, does that mean that you can use these weights differently, Nathan?
Well... well, OK, some weights are used like, uh, like this.
And then others are used like this.
And there are other ways to use weights, too.
OK. I see.
Well, before exercising, it's always important to get changed first.
But what does "get changed" mean?
I think Christina can tell us.
(Chinese).
(Music).
Thank you, Christina.
So, if you get changed, that means you're going to put on different clothes.
We need to do that at different times.
Katie, what is a time when we might need to change our clothes or get changed?
Well, sometimes we might need to change our clothes if we're going to go
somewhere nicer and we need to wear nicer clothes.
If I'm wearing jeans and a T-shirt, I need to get changed so that I can go out
somewhere nicer that night.
Now, everyone, we've learned a lot today about the gym.
So I think right now it's about time for us to go back and review our key words.
Say them with us.
I think you remember our first key word.
gym.
gym.
I exercise at the gym.
fit.
fit.
Exercise every day to stay fit.
build.
build.
Exercise daily. Build up your body.
heart rate.
heart rate.
My heart rate is fast.
I'm nervous.
change.
change.
Change your shirt, Katie.
It's dirty!
Thank you for reviewing your key words with us.
Try to remember them.
Right now let's look at... let's look back at today's conversations together.
Tyler's Gym is really nice.
Yes, it is.
It's new.
Hmm. When did it open?
It opened in November.
Do a lot of people go?
Not yet.
But more and more people go every day.
How often do you go?
I try to go three times a week.
You must really like to exercise.
I do.
I want to stay fit.
That's great.
Exercise is important.
It's a healthy habit!
You like to exercise, too.
You like to ride your bike, right?
Right.
But it is too cold to ride a bike in the winter!
That's true.
You can ride an exercise bike inside the gym.
That's a good idea.
(Music).
Hey, Monkey Man.
What do you have there?
This, Ginger, is a gym bag.
I know.
But why do you have a gym bag?
Because I'm going to the gym.
You? Monkey Man?
You're going to the gym?
Yes. I want to exercise and stay fit.
Oh, really!
Hmm, really.
I can use the exercise bike, the treadmill and the weights.
Oh, really! Haha.
Yes, really. I'm going to the gym.
Oh, really!
Well, maybe I'll take a little nap first.
I knew it!
It's time to Answer It.
Here is question one.
What is Rob's favorite exercise?
What is Rob's favorite exercise?
Find the answer in Conversation C.
He likes using weights.
OK. Question two.
What kind of exercise do you do at the gym?
What kind of exercise do you do at the gym?
Let's hear what our friends have to say.
(Music).
When I go to the gym, the main thing I do is lift weights.
Because as a police officer, I need to be very strong.
I need to be strong to catch bad guys.
So when I go to the gym, I only lift weights.
But I only go to the gym twice a month.
What kind of exercise do I do at the gym?
Well, I like the treadmill and aerobics.
That way, I can dance and exercise at the same time, because actually I don't
like exercise.
But I do love to dance.
So on the treadmill, I'm dancing to the music.
And in the aerobics class, I'm really dancing.
Yes!
What kind of exercise do I do at the gym?
Well, I like to lift weights.
Why?
Because when I lift weights, I'll become stronger.
But I want you to know a little secret.
I also like to exercise my brain in the gym.
How?
Well, when I'm taking a break, I pull out my smartphone and I play some puzzles.
That way I work my brain and my body.
What kind of exercise do I do at the gym?
Oh, well, I can ride the exercise bike.
That's very good for me.
Oh, and I can also walk on the treadmill or maybe jog on the treadmill.
Hmm. That's good, too.
Oh, and sometimes I can use the weights.
That's good.
But I usually don't go to the gym.
It's too tiring.
Well, there really are all kinds of ways to exercise.
Everyone can find a way that works for them.
It's not always easy to start exercising, but you like it more and more if you
keep going.
So, how do you exercise?
You can exercise at a gym, outside or at home.
OK, friends, that's all the time that we have for now.
So we'll see you next time here on...
Let's Talk inEnglish. Goodbye.
