Welcome to LTE TV.
It's a great day here at the studio.
My name is Katie, and we're excited to teach you a lot of great English today.
Our topic is still CAREERS.
And we have part two of our lesson Police Officer.
Police Officer.
Nathan, what did the policeman do yesterday?
Oh. Well, yesterday the police officer was in the Jungle Cafe, and he thought
John was a robber.
So he took him, but he was wrong.
Hello, everyone, my name is Nathan.
It's great to be here with you.
OK. Friends, we've got a great lesson.
So take out your magazine and find today's Read It.
Nathan will read it with you right now.
Police Officer Peter has an important job.
He doesn't just arrest criminals and give people tickets.
He also keeps neighborhoods safe and peaceful.
Some people break the law, and that's bad.
But Police Officer Peter watches carefully, so he can keep everyone safe.
And he doesn't work alone - the whole community helps, too!
I can tell this will be a good lesson.
We get to meet the police officer who's working in the Jungle Cafe yesterday.
I think you're right, Katie.
You don't get to meet policemen very often.
This should be another exciting day.
I know. Police officers seem like very serious people. But they're still people
just like us.
Right.
They have very serious jobs, but we don't need to be afraid of them.
They're here to help us.
So what will Police Officer Peter be like?
We'll see very soon.
But let's learn about our key words first.
Hello.
(Chinese).
(Music).
Hello, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk!
We have a very special guest on our show today.
He helps to keep our neighborhoods safe.
Please help me welcome Police Officer Peter!
Welcome Police Officer Peter!
Officer Peter, you have a very important job!
I do.
I love my job, Rob.
Because you can arrest bad guys?
Well, yes.
But I also get to serve the community!
How do you serve the community?
I help keep neighborhoods safe.
A peaceful neighborhood is a happy neighborhood!
How do you keep neighborhoods safe?
Hey, Police Officer Peter seems like a really... really nice man.
But Rob is right.
He has a very important job.
And police officers like Peter know that their job is important.
I wonder if he ever feels nervous when he's working.
I'm sure that he does when things are dangerous.
But he loves his job, too.
Right. And that's great to hear.
I'm glad that some policemen really love their jobs.
And that's a Calendar Phrase.
I love my job.
I love my job.
(Chinese).
I love my job.
Why? You come to work early.
I love my job.
Why? You work hard all day.
I love my job.
Why? You always go home late.
I love my job.
Why?
Because I love the money.
Oh. So that's why.
I love my job.
I love my job.
(Chinese).
Do you love your job, everyone?
I hope so.
Of course, we all have to do some work that we don't like sometimes.
But we can still enjoy our jobs.
That's true.
Sometimes we get tired when we work.
And it's not always fun when we work.
But if we see how our jobs can help other people, we can still enjoy it.
And police officers arrest bad guys.
That means that they catch a bad guy and maybe put them in jail.
That's one way that police officers help people.
And helping people is serving your community.
We should all find ways to serve our community.
A helpful life is a happy life.
Hey. That's a great sentence to remember, Nathan.
And it's also today's Use It sentence.
Let's learn about it.
(Music).
Today we'll learn how to use the pattern:
A(n) something is a(n) something else.
Let's see an example.
A sweet cake is a delicious cake. Mmm.
Or... A hungry baby is an unhappy baby.
So until next time, it's your turn to use it.
(Music).
Well, that's great.
Thank you, Elizabeth.
There are lots of ways to use that Use It sentence.
That's right.
It's a very important sentence to try to learn.
So maybe you should practice it at home.
Say a sentence with your friend.
Now, friends, I'm sure that there's a lot more that we can learn from Police
Officer Peter in Conversation B.
So let's go there now.
I drive around the neighborhoods.
I talk to people and learn about their lives.
I have a lot of friends in the community!
Is that important?
Very!
Everyone works together to keep the community safe.
I can't work alone!
I feel safer when I see a policeman drive by.
Right.
Robbers and other criminals see me, too.
Then they don't do bad things!
(Music).
Hey. Being a policeman sounds like a lot of fun, Katie.
You get to meet all those people and make so many friends.
I think that would be great.
And I'm sure that's another reason that Police Officer Peter loves his job.
He gets to serve his community and that lets him get to know lots of people.
Yeah. He can drive around in his police car and say:
Hey, how are you today, Bill?
Are you feeling better, Maggie?
Is your son doing well at college, Max?
Ha...
Oh. I guess so.
And then Bill, Maggie and Max can all help him keep the community safe.
That's right.
But how do you think they can really help, Katie?
Well, don't forget that Police Officer Peter was looking for a robber yesterday.
So if they wanted to help, they could tell him if they had seen anyone who might
be the robber.
Oh, yeah.
Or maybe they could even work together and help him to look for the robber.
It's a big help when people can work together to do something.
It gets done more quickly.
And it's a great phrase to learn a little more about.
So let's see what Christina has to tell us about it.
(Chinese).
So work together with friends to improve your English.
If you practice speaking in English with your friends, you really will improve.
And it's a lot more fun to practice your English with other people, too.
Yes. You should give it a try.
And you can work together in other places, too.
Maybe in school you can work together with your classmates to do a project.
Everyone does a little bit of the project, but you're all working together to
get it finished.
And if you have a job and work at an office, I'm sure that you have to work
together with your coworkers sometimes, too.
Well, we have more of Rob's interview with Police Officer Peter.
But now it's time to take a break.
Join us back herein a few minutes.
