Welcome back to the show, everybody.
Today we are talking about hot foods.
Yesterday we talked about hot drinks because this lesson is called I Need
Something Hot.
That's right.
And one of the things that we talked about today was soup and sandwiches.
At a lot of restaurants you can order a soup and sandwich together.
They're a great meal for a cold day.
And I wonder what our friends will order today.
Let's see in Conversation C.
Maybe I'll order it, too.
But I don't like things with lots of pepper in them.
I do.
Spicy food warms me up.
Spicy food makes me drink a lot of water!
That's true.
I'll ask the waiter about pepper in the stew.
I'll ask him something, too.
What's that?
How big is the bowl?
I hope it's really big, because I'm hungry!
I hope Rob gets enough food.
Do you think they give enough food at restaurants, Katie?
Yes. I usually get enough food when I go to eat at a restaurant.
Sometimes I think that there's not enough food, but that doesn't happen often.
Me, too.
That's what I think.
You just want enough food to fill you up.
But sometimes you also want food to warm you up.
That's what hot food is good for.
Yes. Hot food can make you feel warm.
And spicy food makes you feel warm, too.
But spicy food can make you do other things, too.
I know it makes some people sweat, and it makes other people's faces turn red.
I know.
It makes my eyes water and I start to cough when I eat a lot of spicy food.
What about you, Nathan?
Well, spicy food makes my nose run.
I don't like things that are really spicy.
Well, then you should ask the waiter about making the food less spicy.
Hey, that sounds a lot like today's Use It sentence.
(Music).
Today we're going to learn how to use the pattern:
I'll ask someone about something.
For example, I'll ask my friend about the restaurant.
Or, I'll ask the owner about the store.
Now until next time, remember to use it!
(Music).
Yes, find a way to use this sentence.
Uh, like this:
I'll ask Katie about hot food.
What's that?
What... what do you mean?
Well, what are you going to ask me about hot food?
Oh... No, I was just using our Use It sentence.
I don't really have a question to ask you.
But I could ask you this:
Would you start our key word review?
Sure.
Here is your first key word.
menu.
menu.
I looked at the restaurant menu.
tomato.
tomato.
Tim likes tomatoes on his sandwich.
chicken.
chicken.
I like chicken better than beef.
stew.
stew.
Put potatoes and meat in the stew.
toast.
toast.
I put butter on my toast.
pepper.
pepper.
Jack put pepper on his eggs.
Thank you for reviewing with us.
Those are all of our key words.
But now we want to review all of today's conversations.
I am so hungry!
What's for lunch?
Let's look at the menu for today's specials.
Let's see... the soup of the day is tomato.
I don't really like tomato soup.
The sandwich today is turkey and cheese.
Is it hot or cold?
You can get it either hot or cold.
I don't really want a sandwich.
What else is there?
I want something hot.
This stew sounds good.
What kind of stew?
It's chicken stew.
What is in it besides chicken?
Potatoes, carrots, tomatoes and green beans.
Does it come with anything?
It comes with toast.
That does sound good.
Is it spicy?
I don't know.
You can ask the waiter.
That's OK.
I'll just order it.
(Music).
You know, Ginger, I'm very, very hungry.
Monkey Man, you're always hungry.
Well, that's true.
So, Ginger, what's for lunch?
Well, look at the menu, Monkey Man.
OK. I'm looking.
It says the soup of the day... banana?
Yeah. Banana soup is delicious.
What else is there?
Let me check.
Read the menu, Monkey Man.
It says the sandwich of the day is banana and cheese.
Yeah. Banana sandwiches are delicious.
No thanks.
What else is there?
Read the menu, Monkey Man.
OK. Let's see if we have any soup of the day.
Uh, banana soup?
Banana stew, Monkey Man. Read the menu.
Oh. Well, it says it's delicious and it comes with toast.
But I don't want to eat that.
Is there anything else besides bananas?
No. Everything has bananas.
And everything is delicious.
Hmm... OK.
Mmmmm.
Welcome to Let's Play!
Today let's play... What's That Word?
And today's players are...
Gordy.
Mitch.
And I'm Trisha.
And you.
Listen carefully as I explain a word.
It is a key word from today's lesson.
Let's see who can figure out that word first.
Oh, oh, oh, I know.
Menu.
Gordy, we haven't even started yet.
Now here's your first clue.
It is something you can eat.
I know, I know.
Um, yes, Gordy?
A sandwich.
I love egg sandwiches.
Haha. A sandwich is something you can eat, but it's not even one of today's key
words.
All right. Here's your second clue.
This food is a kind of bread.
Yes, Mitch?
Is it a tomato?
Is tomato a kind of bread?
Oh, well, sometimes I put tomatoes on some bread when I make a sandwich.
Did you say sandwich?
I love sandwiches.
Good guess, Mitch. But no.
Tomato is not the answer.
I think you all need another clue.
Here is clue number three.
This kind of bread becomes hot.
Pepper.
No.
But when I eat pepper, my mouth becomes very hot.
Yes, but pepper is not a kind of bread.
Does anybody know the answer?
Can I have a sandwich?
Maybe ham and eggs on toast?
I'm hungry.
That's it!
Hungry?
No, no. Toast.
It's something you eat.
It's a kind of bread.
And that bread becomes hot.
It becomes toast.
Good job, Gordy.
Yes, great job!
Gordy is the winner today!
Yay!
And that's all we have for today.
We'll see you next time on Let's Play!
Well, Katie, the show's almost over.
We can finally eat.
What do you think that we should have?
Well, I think that I need to eat something hot, something that will warn me up.
What could I have?
Well, do you want something spicy?
Uh, hot and sour soup sounds good to me.
It's hot and it's a little bit spicy.
It's great to eat during cold weather.
Well, it might be great to eat in cold weather, but I'm not sure if I like hot
and sour soup.
But you gave me a great idea.
I could have some hot pot. Hot pot is very hot.
That is a good choice.
Well, we know what we're going to eat.
How about you?
Stay warm.
And we'll see you next time here on...
Let's Talk in English.
Bye-bye.
(Music).
