You're watching Let's Talk in English.
It's time to learn a lot of great English and practice it together.
My name is Katie, and I'm one of your teachers here on the show.
Today our topic is still SMALL TALK.
And we've got part two of our lesson Nice to Meet You!
Nice to Meet You!
Nathan, where do you often meet new people?
Well, sometimes my friends introduce me to new people.
And sometimes when I go out and there are a lot of people around, I might meet
new people, too.
Hello, everyone, my name is Nathan.
It's great to be here with you today.
All right, friends, now it's time to start today's lesson.
So take out your magazine and find today's Read It.
Nathan will read it with you right now.
Megan brings Patty to the Jungle Cafe.
Megan introduces Patty to her coworker Rob.
Patty can't believe it!
She is a big fan of Rob!
But Patty isn't the only fan here.
Patty is the host of Rob's favorite radio show.
Rob is a fan, too!
Carol is available now, so Patty has to go.
Perhaps she and Rob can talk later?
Well, I could use a break right now, too.
Our friends are taking a break at the Jungle Cafe.
I like going to cafes for breaks.
Well, me, too.
Maybe we can do that after the show, Katie.
Well, that's a great idea.
Now at the Jungle Cafe, Megan introduces Patty to Rob.
And Patty is a big fan of Rob.
That is a great phrase.
Yes. I am a fan of someone.
If you're a fan of someone, you like that person a lot.
A lot of people are fans of famous people.
And I'm sure we're all fans of someone.
We're all fans of Christina because she teaches us our key words.
Hello.
(Chinese).
(Music).
This is the Jungle Cafe.
My coworkers and I take our breaks here.
They sell very good coffee.
I love coffee!
Oh, there's Rob!
Rob, I want you to meet someone.
Hi, Megan.
Rob, this is Patty.
She's here to see Carol.
It's so nice to meet you!
I love your show.
I'm pleased to meet you, Patty.
I think it's important to take a break during the day.
Nathan, do you like to take breaks?
Well, of course.
Everyone likes to take breaks.
But why do we take breaks, Katie?
Well, we usually take breaks when we are tired.
I like to take a break after I've done a lot of work.
Oh. Yeah, me, too.
I like to walk around the park when I take a break.
Well, that is a great idea.
But Rob and Megan take breaks at the Jungle Cafe.
Hmm. Do you know what Megan and Rob can call each other, Katie?
Well, yes, I do.
They can call each other coworkers.
Those are the people that you work with.
Hmm, well, that's right.
And Katie, you and I are also coworkers!
Well, you're right.
And we have a lot of different coworkers.
Nathan and I work with a lot of people.
But what are the people you go to school called with?
Well, that's easy.
They're your classmates.
You go to class with your classmates.
Yeah. That's right.
Now Patty uses a great sentence: I love coffee.
She loves something.
So what do you love?
Well, I want to answer this question.
I love a lot of things.
I love coffee.
I love books.
I love food.
I love the ocean.
I love...
Oh, OK. Well, Katie, just slow down.
That... that's great.
You... you love a lot of things.
But let's keep teaching, OK?
OK. OK. Oh, oh, I have one other thing I love, Nathan.
OK, what is it?
I love Calendar Phrase.
I love coffee.
I love coffee.
(Chinese).
I love coffee.
Not me. I like tea.
I love coffee.
Not me. I like juice.
I love coffee.
Not me. I like milk.
I love coffee.
So what do you want to drink?
I can't decide.
Well, I want coffee.
I love coffee.
I love coffee.
(Chinese).
I hope you enjoyed that calendar phrase.
Now when you meet someone new, you introduce yourself.
You tell your name to someone, and you also find out that person's name.
And sometimes you introduce a friend to someone else.
Megan introduces Patty to Rob.
That is called making an introduction.
Then she uses our Use It sentence.
She's here to see Carol.
Let's learn how to use it.
(Music).
Hi, friends, I'm Elizabeth.
Today we are learning how to use the phrase:
... is here to...
For example:
Mrs. Smith is here to teach us English.
Or... That man is here to fix my computer.
Now remember to use it!
(Music).
And that is a useful sentence.
Now I think it's time to hear from Christina.
Let's learn about what you should say when you meet someone new.
(Chinese).
(Music).
I can't believe it!
I'm talking to Rob!
You have a fan, Rob!
I guess so!
Patty, where do you work?
I work at a radio station.
I'm a radio show host.
Which radio show?
Good Morning Patty.
You're Patty from Good Morning Patty?
I listen to you on the radio every morning!
Wow, I have a fan, too!
I can't believe it!
Rob and Patty are both host of something.
I can't believe it, either.
Rob is a TV show host and Patty is a radio show host.
But we can also say Rob hosts a TV show.
And Patty hosts a radio show.
The word "host" can be a noun and a verb.
So we have TV hosts and we have radio hosts.
Where else can you be a host?
Well, if a friend visits your home, you are a host at your house.
You host your friends.
That's right, Nathan.
Now, friends, do you listen to the radio often?
Nathan, do you like to listen to the radio?
Well, I don't listen to the radio often.
But I do like to listen to the radio sometimes, especially when I'm driving.
It's great to listen to the radio when I drive.
That is a great idea.
Now, friends, I think that being a host would be a fun job.
You get to meet a lot of people.
Yeah, that would be fun.
Now let's think, what can you hear on the radio?
Well, you can hear music.
And a lot of radio stations have shows, like Patty's job.
Oh, right! Some shows tell people the news or what is happening in the world.
I like listening to radio shows.
And Rob listens to Patty on her radio show every morning.
That is a great sentence.
I do something every morning.
Nathan, what do you do every morning?
Well, I eat breakfast every morning.
I brush my teeth every morning.
And I comb my hair every morning.
Katie, what do you do every evening?
Oh. Well, that is a good question.
Every evening I make dinner.
And then I eat dinner.
And I usually read a book for a little while just to relax.
And every time we get to this part of the show, we take a break.
We'll be back verysoon!
