Welcome to Let's Talk in English, everyone.
We are very happy to be with you here in the LTE TV studio to learn some English
together.
My name is Nathan.
I am one of your teachers on the show.
And today we have a new topic for you called HEALTH.
And the title of today's lesson is Your Eyes Are Important!
Your Eyes Are Important!
Katie, why do you think eyes are important?
Well, Nathan, you see things with your eyes.
So if your eyes hurt, you may not be able to see very well and that would be
bad.
Hi, everyone, my name is Katie.
And I am your other teacher here at Let's Talk in English.
We've got a great lesson for you today, so let's get started.
Take out your LTE magazine and turn to today's Let's Begin!
You can read it with Nathan right now.
Let's begin!
Mark's eyes hurt.
Sometimes he looks at his computer screen for a long time. Then his eyes hurt.
Mark already has glasses. He wears them at home.
But he doesn't wear them at work.
They don't look cool. Mark is worried about his handsome face.
Still, his eyesight is important. Mark must rest his eyes.
All right, friends, let's get started with Conversation A.
(Music).
Are you OK, Mark?
What's wrong with your eyes?
My eyes hurt.
I see.
Sometimes I have trouble with my eyes.
What kind of trouble?
I look at my computer screen for a long time.
Then my eyes hurt.
Take a break from the computer.
OK. I can do that now.
Well, first today we have a very important key word to talk about.
eye.
eye.
Your eyes are in your head. And you have two eyes.
That's right.
Eyes are so important.
And that's the title of our lesson today.
You use your eyes to see things.
And if you do not take care of your eyes, then you cannot see well.
People's eyes are different colors, too.
Some people's eyes are green.
Some are brown.
Some eyes are gray.
Katie, what color are your eyes?
Well, my eyes are blue.
Now, friends, like we have said, it is very important to take care of your eyes.
We will talk more about that later.
But first, let's look at today's "Use It!" sentence.
What's wrong with your eyes?
What's wrong with something?
Like this:
What's wrong with your friend?
What's wrong with the food today?
What's wrong with this test?
What's wrong with the movie?
Friends, say a "Use It!" sentence today. They are very important.
Sometimes our eyes can hurt.
And that's why we have to take care of them.
Do your eyes ever hurt, Katie?
Well, sometimes they do.
They usually hurt after I read for a long time or look at a computer screen for
too long.
Hmm. Well, that's what Mark says, too.
You should take a break from the computer.
And now we should go to Conversation B.
(Music).
Maybe your computer isn't hurting your eyes.
Really?
Maybe you need glasses.
I already have glasses at home.
Why don't you wear them at work?
I don't like them.
Why not?
Because they aren't cool.
Mark, which is more important?
Healthy eyes or a handsome face?
Ken doesn't think that Mark's computer is hurting his eyes.
He thinks that Mark needs glasses.
And that's a key word.
glasses.
glasses.
Glasses are what some people wear on their face when their eyes do not see well.
That's right. Glasses help people see well.
If your eyes don't see well, it's important to go to the doctor and see if you
need glasses.
Katie, do you wear glasses?
Yes, I sometimes wear glasses.
I have needed glasses since I was seven years old.
So I have worn them for a long time.
Now, friends, you can wear glasses for different things.
Some people need glasses to read and some people need glasses to see things that
are far away.
Nathan, do you wear glasses?
Yes. I have had to wear glasses since I was in high school.
When I was in class, I realized that I could not see very clearly what the
teacher was writing.
So I went to the doctor and I got glasses.
But Katie, I am confused about something.
Mark says he already has glasses at home, so why isn't he wearing them now?
Well, that is a good question, but we'll find out later.
Before we do, let's learn about our next key word.
already.
already.
Already means before now.
If you already have something, then you bought it before now.
Yeah. If you have already done something, you have done it before now.
You already did it in the past.
So if someone asks you if you have seen a movie and you have watched it before,
how should you answer it, Katie?
Well, you can say that you have already seen the movie.
You saw it before now.
And now that we have already learned two of these key words, there is another
one that we need to learn about.
And that key word is:
face.
face.
Your face is on your head.
Nathan, what does your face have on it?
Oh. Well, uh... faces have two eyes and they have a nose and a mouth, too.
Your face has all of these things.
And friends, everyone's face is different.
No one's face is the same in the whole world.
That's right. Everyone's face is different.
And that is why we are all special.
Now, Nathan, why does Ken ask Mark if healthy eyes or a handsome face are more
important?
Well, it's because Mark doesn't want to wear his glasses at work.
He thinks they aren't cool.
I guess he wants to look cool and show off his face.
That's right. Mark might want to look cool.
Your glasses cover up your face.
So sometimes it's hard to see someone's face if they are wearing glasses.
But friends, if you do need glasses, remember that it's very, very important to
take care of your eyes.
So go get glasses if you need them.
Now we've already come to the end of this conversation, so let's go to
Conversation C.
(Music).
My eyes are more important. I guess.
That's right.
Maybe I can go to the eye doctor tomorrow.
He can check my eyes.
Good idea. Your eyesight is really important!
I can do something else now.
I can rest my eyes.
Come with me to the Jungle Cafe.
We can both take a break there!
Well, Mark decided his eyes are important.
Maybe he can go to the eye doctor tomorrow.
Hey, that is a great sentence pattern.
Maybe you can do something tomorrow.
Katie, why don't you give us a sentence?
All right!
Maybe I can go to the beach tomorrow!
That sounds fun.
Too bad I have to work.
Oh. And Katie, I think you're forgetting it's December.
Maybe you shouldn't go to the beach when it's this cold.
Anyway, friends, let's learn about our last key word for today.
rest.
rest.
When you rest, you take a break.
If you rest your eyes, like Mark, you try not to use your eyes so they don't
hurt anymore.
That's right. But you can rest other things, too.
You can rest your body by not working too hard and not exercising when you feel
really tired.
And you can rest your mind.
Nathan, what's a good way to rest your mind?
Well, when you take a walk, you don't have to think about a lot of things.
Maybe that's a good way to rest your mind.
Now, friends, it's really important to rest and take a break when you feel like
you need to.
And it's important not to get too tired.
If you work too hard or don't sleep enough, you can get sick.
So take a rest!
Now it's time for us to rest a little, and let's practice our key words
together.
The first key word is:
eye.
eye.
Kiernan's eyes are green.
already.
already.
I already ate dinner. I'm not hungry.
glasses.
glasses.
Katie can't see. She needs glasses.
face.
face.
Protect your face from the sun.
rest.
rest.
I need to sit down and rest.
Right now we are going to take a rest soon.
But we hope that you can remember all of these key words.
Don't forget to practice them, too.
But now it's time for that little break.
We hope that you come back after therest.
