You're watching Let's Talk in English.
It's a great day here at LTE TV.
My name is Katie, and we have a lot of great things to learn today.
Our topic is still ENTERTAINMENT.
And we have part two of our lesson Let's Watch a Movie.
Let's Watch a Movie.
Nathan, what kind of movies do you like to watch at the theater?
Well, I think you should watch big movies at the theater.
Big movies have a lot of things happening and a lot of different things to see.
Hello, everyone, my name is Nathan.
I think this is going to be a great day here on the show.
But let's start by reading our Let's Begin for today.
Find it in your LTE magazine and read it with Katie now.
Let's begin!
Rob and Megan have tickets for part two of The Hobbit.
It opens tomorrow.
They want good seats. They don't want to sit too close to the screen.
They'll buy some popcorn, too.
They don't mind the long lines at the movie theater.
Megan doesn't mind the sticky floors, either!
I'm going to really like this lesson.
Let's start with Conversation A now.
(Music).
Megan, Look! I got them!
Yes! You got them!
I'm so excited!
What did you get? What are those?
Our tickets for part two of The Hobbit!
When does the movie open?
It opens tomorrow.
We're going to see it tomorrow night!
Let's get there early so we can get good seats.
OK. Good idea.
If you go to the movie theater in Asia, your ticket often tells you where to
sit.
But in the United States, you can sit where you want.
So if you want a good seat, you should go there early.
That's why Rob says, "Let's get there early so we can get good seats." That's a
good idea.
But it's also a "Use It!" sentence today.
Let's get there early so we have time to find a good place to park the car.
Or let's get there early so we don't have to drive on busy roads.
There are some good reasons to get to places early.
If you go to see a movie when it first comes out, you should go early.
Part one of The Hobbit was very popular, so part two will be popular, also.
Yes. So the theaters will be crowded.
Now let's talk about that key word.
part.
part.
A part of something is not all of it.
The Hobbit is one story, but it will have three movies.
And each movie will be part of the story.
That's why we can call them part one, part two or part three.
Katie, can you think of something else with a lot of parts?
Well, we say that the body has many parts.
Your arm is part of your body.
Your leg is part of your body.
All the parts work together in one body.
And today's lesson has three parts.
Let's go to the second part called Conversation B.
(Music).
I don't want to sit too close to the screen.
I don't, either.
Let's get there at 6:45.
The movie starts at 7:30.
OK. Then we'll have time to buy popcorn, too.
So you won't wait to watch it on DVD?
No! I'd rather see this movie in the theater.
Me, too!
But I'll watch it again on DVD!
I said I like to watch big movies in theaters.
I think Rob and Megan do, too.
Part two of The Hobbit will be a big movie.
I will have to see it in the theater, too.
But you could just wait to watch it on DVD.
There are good things about watching movies at home, remember?
We talked about that yesterday.
Well, I know. But only theaters have really good sound.
And you can watch with a lot of people at theaters.
And this might be the only chance to see it on a big screen.
And that is a key word.
screen.
screen.
You watch video like TV or movies on a screen.
If you're watching us now, you are looking at a screen.
So what things have screens?
TVs have screens.
Computers like laptops and tablets have screens, also.
And smartphones have small screens, too.
But theaters have rooms with very big screens.
I want to see The Hobbit on a big screen like that, not just on a small screen.
But I don't want to sit too close to the screen.
Then I have to watch the movies like this.
That's not a good way to watch a movie.
No. But it is a good key word.
close.
close.
If something is close, it is not far away.
Right now the camera is close enough to let you see us clearly.
It is not too... hey, hey, hey, that's, that's too close. Back up. Back up.
OK. OK. That's better.
So this key word can be an adjective.
The camera is too close.
But it can also be an adverb.
Like this: I sat close to my friend at the movie.
If you can't sit close to your friends at a movie, it is not as fun.
But I also like to sit close to the popcorn when I watch a movie, too.
So let's talk about that key word, also.
popcorn.
popcorn.
Popcorn is a great food that you can eat at the movies.
But in Asia, you can usually get two kinds of popcorn.
Salty and sweet.
Which do you like more, Nathan?
Hmm. Well, I like salty popcorn more.
Hey, I could make some popcorn now.
I think I'll go get some.
But then I'll get thirsty, too.
Katie, do you want popcorn and a drink?
Well, it does sound really good.
It sounds like a great snack, but we're teaching.
Oh. Actually, popcorn is the last key word for now.
So Nathan can go get us some popcorn, and you can go to Conversation C now.
(Music).
But movie tickets are so expensive.
You can watch movies at home for a lot less money.
I know. But at the theater, the screen is bigger.
And the sound is better, too.
And I like to watch movies with other people!
You don't mind the long lines at the theater?
No. I love movie theaters!
Me, too. I don't even mind the sticky floors!
Thanks for the popcorn, Nathan. And the drink, too.
I hope they weren't too expensive.
Oh, no. Popcorn and drinks aren't too expensive if you buy them for home.
But at the movie theater, they are much more expensive.
And that's another good thing about watching movies at home, Nathan.
In the United States, you have to buy food and drinks at the theater.
They don't let you bring other things.
I know. But I don't buy drinks and popcorn at the theater very often, so I don't
mind.
Oh, and that is a good way to use our next key word.
Let's learn about it.
mind.
mind.
If you don't mind something, you don't worry or care about it.
Nathan doesn't care that the food is expensive at the theater.
That's right. I don't mind.
And I don't mind if it's crowded there, either.
I like to watch movies with a lot of people.
Katie, I think this is a great word for asking questions, too.
Yes. We often ask, "Do you mind?" if we want to know if something is OK.
Maybe your friends ask you to see a movie with them.
You can ask, "Do you mind if we see a different movie?".
If it's OK, they will say, "I don't mind." But Katie, there is one thing that I
don't like about movie theaters.
I don't like the sticky floors.
And friends, if something is sticky, it is hard to get it off of anything it
touches.
Sticky floors? Why would there be sticky floors at a...
Oh. Um... I'll... I'll clean that later.
Let's look at our last key word.
floor.
floor.
When you are inside, you walk on the floor.
Many theaters in Asia have a soft kind of floor called carpet.
And that kind of floor does not really get sticky.
But in the United States, the floors in theaters are hard, and they can get
sticky.
Yes. The floors get sticky if you spill something on them like a drink, like I
just did.
Now floors can be made of many different things.
Some floors are made of wood.
Many floors are made of lots of squares called tiles.
What kind of floor do you have in your house, friends?
But when you go outside, you should not call what is outside the floor.
It is called the ground.
The floor is only inside buildings like your house or other places.
So, Katie, what is the floor in your apartment made of?
Well, my floor is made of many different tile... many different things called
tiles.
And they are brown tiles, not white tiles.
I see.
Well, our floor is sticky now.
So let's hurry up and practice our key words.
Here's the first key word.
part.
part.
This movie is part one of four parts.
close.
close.
Don't walk too close to the water.
screen.
screen.
Look at the screen! The movie is starting!
popcorn.
popcorn.
Popcorn is my favorite snack.
mind.
mind.
I don't mind hot weather. I like it!
floor.
floor.
Sit on the sofa. Don't sit on the floor.
I hope that you can remember all of today's key words.
Right now let's take a shortbreak.
