Hello, everyone, and welcome to Let's Talk in English.
We want to teach you some English today and have some fun, too.
My name is Nathan.
Let's get started with a great day of learning.
Our topic for today is still ACTIVITIES.
And the title of our lesson is Let's Make Cards!
Let's Make Cards!
So, Katie, do you like to make cards for people?
Yes, Nathan, I do.
I like to make cards for Christmas or for people's birthdays.
Making cards is something nice that you can do and give to someone else.
Hi, everyone, my name is Katie.
And I'm very excited for today's lesson.
It's time for us to get started.
So take out your LTE magazine and turn to today's Let's Begin!
You can read it with Nathan right now.
Let's begin!
Megan is making more Christmas cards.
She often copies other people's cards.
Rob likes Megan's cards.
They are cute. Rob wants to make a card.
He can color it with crayons or colored pencils.
He can also use stamps.
But Rob did something wrong.
He glued his card together!
OK, friends, let's learn more about this in Conversation A.
(Music).
Hi, Megan.
What are you doing?
I'm making cards.
Shouldn't you be working?
I am working.
Carol asked me to make Christmas cards for local business owners.
Oh. That's nice.
This is a cute card! So is this one!
They're all cute!
Thanks. Making cards is fun.
You're talented.
Not really. I often copy other people's cards.
This is a great conversation.
First, we see our "Use It!" sentence.
So let's practice that together.
Carol asked me to make Christmas cards for local business owners.
Someone asked me to do something.
Let's use it, Katie!
My mom asked me to clean my room.
My best friend asked me to go to the movies with her.
And my teacher asked me to do my homework.
So you use this sentence when someone asks you to do something.
It's a great sentence to know.
Carol asked Megan to make Christmas cards.
And Rob says that one is a cute card.
That is a key word.
cute.
cute.
If something is cute, it looks good.
We usually say that small babies are cute.
And I think baby animals are cute.
They are fun, and they always look good.
They're cute.
So we use this word to talk about something.
You can say that's a cute something or that something is cute.
And making cards is fun.
Rob says Megan is talented, but she says, "Not really." She means that she isn't
really talented.
And talented means that you are good at doing something.
People can be talented at doing things.
But why does she say she's not really talented at making cards, Nathan?
Well, that's because Megan often copies other people's cards.
And that is another key word for today.
copy.
copy.
If you copy someone, you do the same thing as that person.
So Megan copies people's cards.
So she makes cards that look like other people's cards they have made.
So you can copy things.
You can copy the way someone dresses or the way someone cooks a meal.
But it's not always good to copy things.
That's right. You should not copy someone's homework at school.
That's bad, and you can get into trouble.
But now we should go to Conversation B.
We have more to learn.
(Music).
These words look pretty. Did you write them?
No, I didn't.
I used a stamp.
Oh! A stamp!
Do you want to make a card?
Sure! What do I do first?
You can glue something to the front of this card.
OK. Then can I use a stamp?
Sure.
You can also color the card with these crayons or colored pencils.
Megan has pretty words on her card, but she did not write them.
She used a stamp.
And that's our next key word for today.
Let's take a look now.
stamp.
stamp.
A stamp is something that you use to put pictures on paper.
That's right.
You can use a stamp to make your card pretty.
So let's try it, Katie.
I have a stamp here that I can use on this piece of paper.
Uh-huh.
See, it puts a few words on my piece of paper.
That's so cool, Nathan.
I like that stamp.
Now, friends, you can get stamps in many different colors and in the shapes of
many different pictures.
You can make a stamp of your name or you can buy stamps that are pictures of
animals.
There are many different things you can do with a stamp.
And sometimes it's also common to have a stamp that has your name on it.
Megan used a stamp to write words on her cards, and that's a great way to use a
stamp, too.
Now Rob wants to make a card, but he has to do something first.
Rob has to glue something to the front of the card.
Now we learned about two of those words yesterday.
But today we will use one of the words in a different way - as a verb.
And the key word is:
glue.
glue.
You glue things together with glue.
Glue is really sticky, so when you glue things, they won't come apart very
easily.
And when you glue something, you want it to stick to something else.
So in our conversation, Rob wants to glue some things to the front of the card.
If he does that, the things won't come off of the front very easily.
And friends, we have one more key word for this conversation, so let's learn
about it.
crayon.
crayon.
A crayon is something that you use to color pictures.
That's right.
Now usually kids use crayons to color.
You can make a lot of pretty pictures if you use crayons.
I used to like to color with crayons, but now I don't color with crayons very
often.
Nathan, do you color with crayons now?
No. I usually draw things with pencils or use colored pencils to color things.
But crayons are still great to draw with.
And there are many things that you can draw or color with crayons.
You can draw a picture of an animal.
Or you can draw a mountain, too.
Something like that.
Now crayons are a lot of fun.
We used to use crayons in school when we're little to draw pretty pictures.
We did, too.
But now friends, it's time to go to Conversation C because we have more to talk
about.
(Music).
Making cards is fun!
I told you.
How did you learn to make cards?
From the Internet!
And Carol showed me some things.
Also, I learn as I do it.
I see.
There really is no wrong way to make a card.
Um, Megan, my card won't open.
I glued it together.
Maybe there is a wrong way to make a card!
Rob asks a great question in Conversation C.
How did you learn to make cards?
How did you learn to do something?
Let's try to use this sentence.
Like this:
How did you learn to speak English?
Maybe you learned how to speak English from watching this show.
That is a good sentence, Katie.
Now, friends, this question is important.
Try to use this question today if you can.
But now we need to look at our next key word.
together.
together.
If you use the word "together," you're talking about being with someone.
If you do something together, you do something with another person.
That's right.
So if you go eat dinner with a friend, you go eat together.
If you go to the movies with your family, you all go watch a movie together.
And we need to do one more thing together today.
We need to review our key words.
Here we go.
Here's the first key word.
copy.
copy.
Do your homework like Maddie. Copy her.
cute.
cute.
Your baby is so cute!
crayon.
crayon.
The children are coloring with crayons.
stamp.
stamp.
This stamp is a picture of a flower.
glue.
glue.
Glue this picture to this paper.
together.
together.
Put the papers together on the table.
Those are all of today's key words, friends.
Now let's take a shortbreak.
