Well, I don't have a lot of things.
So I don't need to save that much space.
But there are some places in my room that I don't use.
I can just put my things there.

Well, friends, we have a lot to learn today.
So let's get started and go to Conversation A right now.

I have a question for you.
What kind of place do you live in?
Well, today we are going to talk about some very special apartments.
Please help me welcome my guest, Ms. Ava Apartment.

I'm excited to be here!
A lot of people live in cities.
Many of these people have to live in small apartments.
Yes, because rent is expensive.
But living in a small apartment isn't bad.
There are many ways to save space.
Give us an example.
Store your things on shelves in your closet or drawers under your bed.
Then you'll have more space.
Ava Apartment is on the show today.
And she's talking about living in a city.
Hey, Nathan, we live in a city.
What kind of home do you live in?
Well, like many people in the city, I live in an apartment, and it has four
bedrooms.
And that is our first key word for today.

An apartment is somewhere that people often live when they are in a city.
Some buildings have apartments in them.
And if you live in a building, there are usually many different apartments in
that building.
So, Katie, do you live in an apartment building?
Yes, I do. My building has six stories.
I live on the second story, and there are four different apartments on that
story.
Hmm. Well, most cities have a lot of apartments because cities are very crowded.
There's not enough room for big houses.
But there are ways that you can save space.
Before we learn how to do that, we need to learn about that key word.
space.
space.
Space is how many empty places there are in one place.
If a place has a lot of space, it's big.
If there isn't much space, it's a small apartment or a room.
And you can also say that a place doesn't have much room.
We mean there isn't much room or much space to move around.
And cities don't have a lot of space because there are so many people and
buildings.
So that is why we have to save space if we live in a city.
And one idea that Ava gives us is to store our things on shelves or in drawers.
And that will give you more space.
That's right, Nathan.
And you used a key word.
Friends, let's learn about this word.

If you store something, you put your things somewhere for a long time so that
you can use them later.
We usually store food to save it for another time.
Or sometimes you might store your clothes.

That is a great idea to save some space.

There are some pretty tiny apartments in the world.
That's right.
These are called "micro-apartments." They are around 200 or 300 square feet.
But some are even smaller!
Why would someone want to live in such a small place?
Large cities can be very expensive and crowded.
A micro-apartment saves money and space.
And it often still includes a kitchen and bathroom.
I guess every inch counts in a micro-apartment!
There are a lot of small apartments in the world.
You can find those small apartments in big cities.
And some are called micro-apartments.
Now I agree with Rob.
Why would anyone want to live in such a small place?
Good question. But that's our "Use It!" sentence today.
Why would someone want to do something?
Oh, like: Why would anyone want to do something dangerous?
Or why would I want to read that book?
Right.
But even though micro-apartments are small, Conversation B says they often
include a kitchen and bathroom.
And that is a key word.

If something includes something, that means that it has it.
We often use this word when we talk about prices.
We may say that the price of a meal includes dessert.
That means that your meal will have your dinner and dessert.
The apartments include a kitchen and a bathroom.
That means that these apartments have both a kitchen and a bathroom, even though
they are small.
And that is important.
Because like Rob says, every inch counts.
Wait. Every inch counts.
Nathan, what does that mean?
Well, we won't understand until we learn about that key word.

If something counts, it is important.
So here we mean that every inch is important.

Every inch counts and that's why you have to save space.
But I know sometimes we say things don't count.
That means they aren't so important.

Bigger apartments usually mean higher rent.
So some people save money by living in micro-apartments.
In these apartments, every square foot counts!
One girl in New York lives in an apartment that is 90 square feet!
Another apartment in London is only 80 square feet.
But it still includes a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom!
People who live in micro-apartments have to save space.
They store their things in lots of drawers and shelves all around their homes.
Now Read It is right.
In a city, if you have a bigger apartment, that means that you have a higher
rent.
That means you pay more for your place to live.
And that's why some people live in micro-apartments.
Now "micro" is a word or a part of a word that means very, very small.
And like we have been saying, that's why you have to save space.
Micro-apartments only have a little bit of space.
Some of them are only 80 or 90 square feet.
Oh, that is really small.
But even though they're small, they still include a kitchen, bathroom and
bedroom.
They still have those three different rooms.
But don't worry.
Even if you're in a micro-apartment, you can store things.
If you store your things in a drawer or under your bed, you won't have to see
it.
It will save space.
I usually store things under my bed.
Now we all have places that we live and we can use these key words when we talk
about those things.
So let's review our key words and practice them right now.
