Hello, everyone.
You are watching Let's Talk in English.
We are here to teach you some English and to have some fun with you today.
My name is Nathan.
It's great to be here with you to learn some things together.
Now today we have a topic called AROUND TOWN.
We want to finish our lesson called Dream Houses.
Dream Houses.
What does your dream house look like, Katie?
Oh, Nathan, that is a hard question.
I don't know what my dream house would look like.
But I do know that my dream house would most definitely be close to the ocean.
As long as my house is close to the ocean, I am happy.
Hi, everyone, my name is Katie.
And I'm the other teacher here at Let's Talk in English.
We have a great lesson today and a lot to learn.
But before we can get started, we need to read our Let's Begin!
So take out your magazine and find today's lesson.
You can read with Nathan right now.
Let's begin!
Megan, Mark and Ken are looking at photos of unusual houses.
One house is round like a UFO.
Another house is an old airplane.
Megan's favorite is the Walking House.
It gets power from the wind and sun.
Ken wants to live in a big treehouse.
It would have bedrooms, a kitchen and more, just like a normal house!
It sounds like this will be a fun lesson, so let's get started with Conversation
A.
(Music).
Hi, Megan. Hi, Mark.
You two look busy.
Hi, Ken. We're looking at a magazine.
It has all kinds of photos of unusual houses!
Take a look. This house looks like a UFO!
Cool! The house is round!
And look at this one.
Someone made an airplane into a house!
That's amazing!
Today Mark and Megan are still looking at houses.
But today they are looking at unusual houses.
That is a great key word to learn.
unusual.
unusual.
If something is unusual, it is different.
These houses are unusual, so they look different from normal houses.
Now what else can be unusual?
Many things.
Hot weather in the winter is unusual.
Snow in the summer is unusual.
Maybe someone has unusual clothes.
Their clothes might look different than many other people.
And Mark and Megan are looking at unusual houses.
They say one looks like a UFO.
Katie, what is a UFO?
Well, a UFO is something that might be up in space.
We don't really know what it is, but it definitely looks unusual.
And this house looks like a UFO.
That is unusual.
UFOs are round.
It's... it's weird for a house to be round.
Mmhm. But Katie, you just used another key word for today.
round.
round.
If something is round, it's in the shape of a circle.
UFOs usually are round.
But houses are usually in the shape of a square.
But we use a lot of different things that are round.
A ball that you play a sport with is round.
And a round ball will bounce up and down.
And the bowls that you eat soup out of are always round.
Things that are round, you can usually roll on the ground.
For example, the wheels of a car are round.
And if the wheel isn't round anymore, it won't roll.
So a round house is definitely an unusual house.
Now another unusual house is a house that's made out of an airplane.
That is unusual.
But we also have another new key word to talk about.
airplane [plane].
airplane [plane].
An airplane is what you fly in.
You can also call it a plane.
You can fly to many different places in an airplane.
And there are big airplanes and there are small airplanes.
My dad flies small airplanes - only four people can ride.
But they are fun to ride in.
But can you imagine living in an airplane?
That really is unusual.
I wonder if it would be fun.
Uh, think how small an airplane is inside, Nathan.
It'd have to be a huge airplane to be a good house.
Well, that's true.
But friends, do you like unusual houses?
Well, we can learn about some more unusual houses in Conversation B.
Look at this "Walking House." The house has legs!
It can walk around!
You're kidding!
No! It really can! It gets power from the wind and sun.
My favorite house is shaped like a ball!
How could you live in such a small house?
It is pretty tiny.
It has power, water and a bedroom.
What else do I need?
And now we learn about an even more unusual house.
A Walking House. This is a house that can walk around.
Nathan, what do you think about this house?
Well, I think it sounds like it could be pretty cool.
I want to see what it looks like.
But the Walking House is special.
It gets power from the wind and the sun.
And there is one of our key words for today.
wind.
wind.
The wind is the air that moves around you when you are outside.
Right.
When you're outside, sometimes the wind blows really hard.
And when the wind blows, the trees move and it pushes things.
The house gets its power from the wind.
So when the wind blows, it gives power to the walking house.
And when the wind blows outside a lot, you can say that it's windy outside.
Wind is a noun, but the word windy is an adjective.
Some days are very windy.
In Conversation B, Mark says, "It is pretty tiny." He's talking about the
Walking House.
But when he says "pretty," he doesn't mean beautiful.
That's right. He uses the word to mean "really." So he means it's really tiny.
OK. Now it's time to go to Conversation C.
(Music).
I always wanted to live in a treehouse.
I had a treehouse when I was young!
I played in it for hours!
I want a big treehouse, high above the ground.
It will have bedrooms, and a kitchen, and...
Won't you get tired of climbing up and down every day?
Maybe. But if I had a great treehouse, I might never leave!
Ken says, "I always wanted to live in a treehouse!" And that's our "Use It!"
sentence today.
I always wanted to do something.
I always wanted to learn tap dance.
I always wanted to live in Germany.
And I always wanted to go bungee jumping.
But Ken has always wanted to live in a treehouse.
He wants bedrooms and a kitchen in his house.
And friends, Katie just used two key words.
We need to learn about both of them.
Here's the first one.
bedroom.
bedroom.
A bedroom is the room in your house where you sleep.
Some people have their own bedroom.
Other people share a bedroom.
Some houses may even have a few bedrooms, but others may have very few bedrooms.
And houses usually have different kinds of rooms.
One kind is a kitchen.
That's our next key word.
kitchen.
kitchen.
The kitchen is the room where you cook.
And you make food in the kitchen.
That's right. And some people eat in the kitchen.
Or you can eat in the dining room.
But most people make their meals in the kitchen.
The kitchen is probably where you also keep your food.
So today we learned about bedrooms and kitchens.
But what other rooms are in houses, Katie?
Well, there's the living room.
That might be where you watch TV.
And of course, most houses have a bathroom.
But maybe your house even has a game room.
That's a fun room where you can play some games.
That's right.
There are a lot of cool houses around.
But now it's time to practice today's cool key words together.
Let's get started doing that now.
Here is your first key word.
unusual.
unusual.
You have an unusual style.
round.
round.
That chocolate cake is round.
airplane [plane].
airplane [plane].
We will fly on that airplane.
wind.
wind.
The wind is strong today. Don't go out!
bedroom.
bedroom.
Helga is sleeping in her bedroom.
kitchen.
kitchen.
We make dinner in the kitchen.
Those are today's key words.
Now it's time for a break.
Please don't goaway.
