It's Saturday again.
My name is Katie, and I'm here at the LTE TV studio to review with you.
We learned a lot this week and that means that we need to review.
This week we talked about postcards.
Postcards are a great way to keep in touch with family and friends when you're
traveling.
I love to mail postcards home.
Rob and Susie are writing cards to sick children in the hospital.
Carol likes to mail postcards, too.
But who does she send them to?
Then our friends at the TV station want to go to the mountains.
Hiking is great exercise and you can see a lot of beautiful things.
Ken and Mark want to go camping.
Mark likes camping a lot.
But what should you bring when you go camping?
Answer these questions as we review the conversations from this week.
(Music).
Hi, Rob. What are you writing?
I'm writing a postcard to my friend in Taipei.
He collects postcards from different countries.
Fun! What picture is on the postcard?
It's an old photo of our town.
That's an interesting postcard!
Where did you buy it?
At the bookstore.
They sell a lot of postcards there!
Does your friend send postcards to you?
Yes! Actually, I collect postcards, too.
Are they from different countries?
No. Most of them are from this city!
A lot of people watch my show.
Some of them send me postcards!
That's nice of them!
I love mail from fans!
I do, too.
So your postcards are from around here.
Are they all the same?
Not at all! Many people make the postcards.
I keep each one.
That's really special.
I have a few postcards from abroad, too.
Where are they from?
Well, I have one from France.
Megan mailed it to me!
She mailed one to me, too!
Good afternoon, Carol!
We're writing postcards to children in the hospital.
Would you like to write one, too?
Sure! What gave you this idea?
Susie and I were talking about postcards.
We both really enjoy receiving them!
Then I thought, "Postcards cheer me up. They will cheer up sick people in the
hospital, too!".
What a nice idea! I'd love to write one.
Rob collects postcards.
He has a lot of them.
Really? I collect postcards, too.
That's great! Who are they from?
They're from me!
You send postcards... to yourself?
When I visit a place, I buy a postcard.
Then I mail them to my home address!
I love that idea!
A postcard is a cheap and fun gift.
And sometimes I find really cool postcards.
Which one is your favorite?
I have one in the shape of a pyramid.
I bought it in Egypt.
How many postcards do you have?
At least a hundred!
Wow, Carol! You really love to travel!
I do. And I also love postcards!
Hello, Susie. Hi, Megan.
Do you two have plans for Saturday?
No, I don't.
I don't, either.
Great! Then we can take a trip to the mountains.
Good idea.
The mountains are so beautiful in the fall.
We can have a picnic.
We can take pictures of the fall colors.
Yes! I can bring my camera.
And we can go for a hike!
A hike?
Do you like hiking, Megan?
No, I don't.
Why not?
I don't climb mountains very often.
There aren't any mountains in Florida.
Do you have hills?
Yes. We have hills.
A mountain is just a big hill.
Hiking is good exercise, Megan.
You like exercise.
Hiking is boring.
No. Hiking is fun!
You can see a lot of things.
What kind of things?
You can see different birds and animals.
You can see different trees and flowers.
Sometimes you meet interesting people.
And there are great views from the top of the mountain.
OK! Let's go for a hike!
Hey, Ken, I'm excited about our hiking trip on Saturday.
Me, too, Mark! Did you do much hiking in Texas?
Yes. Every summer I went on a big hiking trip with some friends.
Big? Did you climb a big mountain?
Yes! And we camped in the mountains for a few days.
Fun! I love camping!
Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Yes! We should camp on Saturday night!
But will everyone want to camp with us?
Maybe not.
If they don't want to camp, they can drive home Saturday evening.
Good idea. Do you have a tent?
I do. Four people can sleep in it.
Great. How about a sleeping bag?
I have a sleeping bag, but only one person can sleep in it.
Me!
I know. I'll bring my own sleeping bag.
Bring thick socks, a jacket and other warm clothes, too.
It's fall, so it gets cold at night in the mountains.
Well, we can make a fire!
A big fire!
This will be a great hiking - and camping - trip!
(Music).
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk!
Do you enjoy nature?
Well, my guest today really enjoys nature.
Please help me welcome Ms. Nancy Nature!
Hello, Nancy Nature.
Thanks for being with us today.
You're welcome, Rob.
I hear there are some new trails around Lake George.
That's right!
And fall is a great time to try those new trails.
Why is that?
The weather isn't too hot or too cold, and there are no insects!
That's nice.
And the leaves are really beautiful right now.
They are beautiful when they change color.
Everyone should take a day to explore the trails.
You think people should hike all day?
No. I think people should get outside and enjoy nature.
You can see a lot of wildlife around the trails.
What kinds of wildlife?
You can see deer, foxes and eagles.
You might even see a bear!
I'm not sure I want to!
Get out and enjoy nature this fall.
You'll be glad you did.
Rob is talking to Nancy Nature.
She wants everyone to explore the new trails around Lake George.
Fall is a wonderful time to get outside and enjoy nature.
The weather isn't too hot or too cold, and there are no insects!
Also, the colorful leaves are really beautiful at this time of year.
Nancy tells Rob about some of the wildlife around the trails.
People might see deer, foxes, eagles or even a bear!
Rob isn't sure he wants to see a bear!
Now that you've listened to last week's lessons again, it's time to answer a few
review questions.
Ooh, let's make this fast, Katie.
I was taking... a nap, and I'd love to go back to sleep.
Well, OK, Chris. Thanks for your help.
Always happy to help, Katie.
Yeah. It... it seems that way.
I guess we should get started.
Hmm.
We found out a lot about postcards last week.
And Rob and Susie are writing postcards to sick children in the hospital.
Oh, that's so nice of them.
That's a great way to help the children.
That's right, Chris.
And here is the first question.
Which postcard is Carol's favorite?
Ooh, ooh, ooh. Good question, Katie.
And I know the answer.
The postcard in the shape of a pyramid is Carol's favorite.
That's right. Good job, Chris.
Carol has a lot of postcards.
Do you know how many she has?
She has at least a hundred.
Huh, that's a lot of postcards.
Yeah. I like postcards, too.
But I'm not sure I like them that much.
Katie, are there any more questions?
I still want to get back to my nap.
All right. Yes, here's another question.
Ken, Susie and Megan can take a... a trip to the mountains.
The mountains are fun!
It will be pretty there, won't it, Katie?
It will. Mountains are very pretty, especially in the fall.
Now here is the question.
What did Mark do every summer in Texas?
Ooh, that's a harder question.
Did he go swimming?
Well, maybe. But that's not the answer.
Ah, uh, well, let me think.
What did Mark do?
Oh, I know. He went on a big hiking trip every summer.
That's right, and they camped in the mountains.
That sounds like fun!
Katie, you should go camping!
In fact, go right now!
Then I can go back to my nap.
Well, gee, thank you, Chris.
OK, friends, it is time for us to take a short break.
We'll be rightback.
