It's a great day in the LTE TV studio.
You are watching Let's Talk in English.
My name is Nathan.
And I'm one of your teachers here.
Today we want to continue our topic called NATURE.
But we have a new lesson for you called Enjoying Nature.
Enjoying Nature.
So, Katie, what kind of nature do you enjoy the most?
Oh, that is a hard question.
I really like the mountains, but I think that the nature that I enjoy the most
is the beach.
I love the ocean. I think it's so pretty.
And I like to sit in the sun.
Hi, everyone.
My name is Katie, and I'm your other teacher here at Let's Talk in English.
We have a great lesson today.
And I'm excited to learn with you.
So let's get started with Conversation A now.
(Music).
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk!
Do you enjoy nature?
Well, my guest today really enjoys nature.
Please help me welcome Ms. Nancy Nature!
Hello, Nancy Nature.
Thanks for being with us today.
You're welcome, Rob.
I hear there are some new trails around Lake George.
That's right!
And fall is a great time to try those new trails.
Why is that?
The weather isn't too hot or too cold, and there are no insects!
That's nice.
And the leaves are really beautiful right now.
They are beautiful when they change color.
(Music).
Fall is a great time for hiking.
And now is a great time to talk about today's "Use It!" sentence.
(Blank) is a great time to do something.
Here's another one.
Thanksgiving is a great time to see family.
Can you make your own "Use It!" sentence, friends?
Give it a try!
Now let's look at the other good things about fall.
It isn't too hot or too cold, and that makes it great for exercise.
You can be comfortable outside.
And this is great news, too.
There are no insects.
I'm very happy to hear that.
I don't like insects very much.
Oh, that's sad. Katie doesn't like today's first key word.
Well, we need to talk about it anyway.
insect.
insect.
Most bugs can be called insects.
But do you know how many legs insects have, Katie?
No. I don't know and I don't want to know.
Do we really have to talk about this, Nathan?
It is a key word, and our friends need to know about these little guys.
All insects have six legs, friends.
Many of them also have wings.
So let's think of some insects, Katie.
I'll just say one kind, Nathan.
Flies are one kind of insect.
Who likes flies?
Well, they're OK.
But they aren't as bad as mosquitoes.
Those are insects, too.
But I think I know of one insect that you probably like, Katie.
Ha, no. No, I don't like any insects.
Hmm, not even butterflies?
They're insects, too.
Really? Butterflies are insects?
They're really pretty.
One kind has the colors of the leaves in the fall.
Oh, that's the monarch butterfly.
But let's talk about another key word now.
leaf.
leaf.
A leaf grows on a tree, but there are usually a lot of them.
And when there are a lot of them, they are called leaves, L-E-A-V-E-S.
One leaf and many leaves.
They're usually green, but they change color in the fall.
Nathan, what colors do they change to?
Well, they can change to colors like this: red, yellow or orange.
And now I think we have more to learn in our next conversation.
(Music).
Everyone should take a day to explore the trails.
You think people should hike all day?
No. I think people should get outside and enjoy nature.
You can see a lot of wildlife around the trails.
What kinds of wildlife?
You can see deer, foxes and eagles.
You might even see a bear!
I'm not sure I want to!
Get out and enjoy nature this fall.
You'll be glad you did.
Wildlife can be plants or animals.
But today we will be talking about a few kinds of animals.
They are all key words.
Let's look at the first one.
deer.
deer.
Look at this picture of a deer.
This is a male deer.
Do you know how to tell, Nathan?
Oh, sure. A male deer has things called antlers on its head.
Deer are very beautiful.
But where I'm from in the United States, people actually hunt deer.
There are a lot of deer there.
That's true. People often hunt deer in the United States.
Friends, if you have listened carefully, you know that we never said deers.
The word "deer" can mean just one animal or many animals.
So "deers" is not a word.
Yes, there are a few animals with names like this.
But our next animals are not like this.
We want to talk about foxes.
And it's time for another key word.
fox.
fox.
Foxes look kind of like dogs, but they are red and they have big tails.
They are usually quiet animals that you don't see very often.
And actually, when we talk about foxes, we think they are very smart animals
that only let you see them when they want you to.
Sometimes we say "fox" to mean a smart person that has secret plans.
So you have to watch very carefully if you want to see a fox.
Now let's talk about one more animal key word.
eagle.
eagle.
An eagle is a kind of big bird.
They are also not easy to see.
And one kind of eagle means something very important to people in the United
States.
You can see an eagle on American money and on some state flags.
The eagle means freedom.
It looks so free when it flies high up in the sky with its big wings.
You might see them flying or taking care of its babies.
Or you might see them catching some fish or other small animals to eat.
It's very cool.
Now let's review all of this wildlife in our Read It for today.
Rob is talking to Nancy Nature.
She wants everyone to explore the new trails around Lake George.
Fall is a wonderful time to get outside and enjoy nature.
The weather isn't too hot or too cold, and there are no insects!
Also, the colorful leaves are really beautiful at this time of year.
Nancy tells Rob about some of the wildlife around the trails.
People might see deer, foxes, eagles or even a bear!
Rob isn't sure he wants to see a bear!
So what do you think, friends?
Will you get outside today?
You really should try to enjoy the fall weather while you can.
Let's look at the way that Nathan asked his question.
Will you get outside today?
Read It also used the phrase "get outside." It just means go outside.
Right, Nathan?
That's right.
"Get" often means that you have something because you took it or you bought it.
But when we say that you are getting to a place, it just means that you're going
there.
At the end of work, I can say, "It's time for me to get home." Now I think Rob
wants to get outside.
But he isn't sure if he wants to see a bear.
Yes. Bears are big animals and they can be dangerous.
When Rob says he isn't sure, he just means that he doesn't know if he wants to
be that close to a bear.
But bears aren't bad.
They will leave you alone if you leave them alone.
Now we didn't talk about bears today.
But there were many other key word animals.
So let's see if you remember them as we practice.
First is:
insect.
insect.
Tim likes all kinds of insects and bugs.
leaf.
leaf.
The leaves are falling off the trees.
deer.
deer.
Deer live in the forest.
fox.
fox.
The fox looks like a dog.
eagle.
eagle.
The eagle flies high in the air.
These are a lot of great key words.
But which animal is your favorite, friends?
They are all very different.
Try to remember all of these key words.
Right now let's take a break.
Please join us for the rest of the show.
(Music).
