Hi, friends, welcome to LTE TV.
My name is Katie.
It's Saturday.
And that means it's time for us to review last week's lessons.
We had a busy week.
Rob is going to take a train to Chicago.
He has a coupon for twenty-five percent off.
But is his train an express train?
And how fast does the fastest train in China go?
Then we talked about your teeth and your health.
How often should you go to the dentist?
Listen to the conversations again.
Try to answer the questions.
(Music).
Hi, Carol. What are you reading?
Hi, Megan. Hi, Ken.
I'm reading an email from Joe.
Oh. What does it say?
He loves New York.
He really enjoys his job, too.
That's great.
Thanksgiving is almost here. Will he go home?
Yes. His family lives far from New York.
He can ride the train home.
That's a good idea. He can avoid the traffic!
He can do a lot of other things on the train, too!
That's right. He can sleep!
The seats are comfortable on a train.
I sleep on the train sometimes.
I read on the train.
One time I even finished two books!
I also like the train for another reason.
What reason?
I'm not a great driver. Sometimes I get lost.
But you can't get lost on a train!
Yes. But I can get off the train and get lost.
Sometimes I walk for hours!
Look at a map!
Or ask someone for directions.
OK, OK.
Hi, Rob. What is that?
Hi, Ken. It's a train schedule.
Are you going somewhere?
I am going to visit a friend in Chicago next weekend.
Why don't you fly?
I got a great deal on my train ticket.
A friend sent me a coupon online.
Really?
Yes. Look.
Wow. Twenty-five percent off!
That is a great deal.
My train leaves on Friday at 7:00.
I leave after work.
What platform does your train leave from?
Umm... The train leaves from platform three.
A lot of trains leave from platform three.
You're right. It's often crowded.
What time do you arrive in Chicago?
If the train is on time, I arrive at 10 p.m.!
Is it an express train?
No. The train stops at almost every station.
Then it's a long trip.
Not really. It's only about three hours.
Oh, that's not bad.
I can bring a book to read on the train.
Or you can listen to music or talk with other passengers.
Sure. I love talking to people.
I know!
(Music).
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk!
Have you ever been on a high speed train?
They are fast and convenient.
And here to tell us all about them is my special guest, Mr. Hugh S. Train.
Welcome to the show, Mr. Train.
Thank you, Rob. I love talking about trains.
Can you tell us about high speed trains?
Sure, Rob. High speed trains are a great way to travel.
They are fast and comfortable!
How fast do high speed trains go?
The fastest high speed train in China can go 311 miles per hour.
Wow. That is really fast!
High speed train stations are also very modern.
They are! They look like airports.
Yes. The stations are usually bigger than older train stations, too.
Many places around the world have high speed trains, right?
Yes. France, Russia and South Korea have high speed trains.
Japan has a high speed train, too.
It does. Japan has a great high speed train system.
I've ridden a high speed train from Taipei!
It can be expensive.
The cost of the ticket depends on the distance you travel.
Sure.
If the distance is far, it is more expensive.
If the distance isn't as far, it is cheaper.
So there can be a big difference in cost.
Yes. But taking the train is still cheaper than flying!
Hey, Megan, you look happy today.
What's going on?
Not much. I'm going to the dentist this afternoon.
And you're happy about that?
Sure! I like to go to the dentist.
My teeth feel great after he cleans them.
Really? My teeth always hurt after the dentist cleans them.
How often do you go to the dentist?
Oh, once every few years.
You should go to the dentist every six months.
Ha...
Did you talk to my mother?
She says that!
Well, you should go twice a year.
A dentist needs to check your teeth.
I know. But I don't like pain.
My teeth and gums hurt after I see the dentist.
Because you don't see one often enough.
But I do brush my teeth every day.
Do you floss them, too?
Sometimes.
You should floss every day, too.
I know, I know. I'm just lazy.
Well, it's your mouth.
OK. What's the name of your dentist?
Dr. Johnson. He's really good.
Do you have his phone number?
I'll call and make an appointment.
Good! Then your mother will be happy!
(Background Noise).
(Music).
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk!
Today we are going to talk about your health and your teeth.
Please help me welcome my guest, Dr. Tom Teeth!
Welcome, Tom. Thank you for being on our show today.
You're welcome, Rob.
Taking care of your teeth is a pretty important subject.
Yes, it is.
Do you have any tips for us?
Yes, I do.
You should brush your teeth twice a day.
You should floss daily, too.
Those things help fight gum disease.
How often do you need to get a new toothbrush?
Three or four times a year.
Does the health of your teeth and gums affect your whole body?
Yes. If you keep your mouth clean, bacteria can't grow well.
Is bacteria in your mouth bad?
Yes! The bacteria in your mouth gets into your blood and moves around your body.
Those bacteria can cause other health problems.
They can?
Yes. They can cause heart disease, for example.
Uh-oh! I'll remember to brush my teeth.
And floss, too!
Do you want to take good care of your teeth?
Here are some tips:
Brush twice a day and floss daily.
This will help fight gum disease.
Get a new toothbrush three to four times a year.
The health of your teeth and gums affects your whole body.
Bacteria grow in your mouth and can get into your blood.
The bacteria then move around your whole body.
They can cause heart disease and other health problems.
Did you enjoy reviewing last week's conversations?
I hope you listened well because it's time for us to answer some questions.
And today, Chris, the Jungle Cafe bird will help me.
Hi, Chris.
Hello, Katie. I am ready to answer questions today.
I know I can do it.
I'm sure you can.
OK. Chris, friends, here is the first question.
We found out last week that Rob has a ticket to visit his friend in Chicago.
His friend sent him a coupon for twenty-five percent off.
So is the train an express train?
Ooh, that's a great question.
And the answer is no.
The train is not an express train.
That's right!
And what happens on this train, Chris?
Well, the train stops at almost every station.
Wow.
That means the trip must take a long time.
Well, no. It only takes about three hours.
That's not so bad.
And riding the train is fun.
Rob can bring a book to read on the train.
Oh, that's a great idea.
I may be a bird, but I like to read, too.
Well, that's great, Chris.
Books are good.
Ok, friends, here is my next question.
Right. Make it a good one, Katie.
And make sure it's about trains.
I like trains.
All right, Chris.
How fast does the fastest high speed train in China go?
Oh, that is a hard question.
But I can answer it.
Hmm... The fastest high speed train in China can go 311 miles per hour.
Chris, you are right.
Good job! And that is fast.
Chris, you've been on the high speed train before, right?
Katie, I am a bird.
They don't let birds on the train.
Come on, now.
Oh, that's right.
Well, that's too bad, Chris.
High speed trains are really fun.
Friends, that's all that we have for right now.
But we will be right back after a shortbreak.
