So, Katie, what do you like to eat?
Ooh, Nathan, that is a hard question to answer.
I really like to eat, so I like many different kinds of food.
And I'm sure that we are going to learn a lot about kinds of food today.
Hi, everyone, my name is Katie.
And I am your other teacher here at Let's Talk in English.
I hope that you're ready for today's lesson.
But before we can get started, you need to read our Let's Begin!
So take out your magazine and turn to the right page.

Let's begin!
What kind of snacks do you eat?
Megan eats fruit.
It's a healthy snack.
Healthy food is important for a good daily diet.
Vegetables are healthy snacks, too.
You can eat carrots.
Mark doesn't like the taste of carrots.
He likes sweet food.
Ken does, too.
He likes cookies and candy.
Well, let's go to Conversation A and see what happens.

Hi, Megan.
Hi, Mark. Hi, Ken.
Is that your lunch?
No. It's just a snack.
That's a very healthy snack.
It is! Fruit is good for you.
It's an important part of our daily diet.
How much fruit do you eat?
A lot.
I eat fruit several times a day.

A snack is just a little bit of food that you eat when you're hungry.
It's not a meal like breakfast, lunch or dinner.

And fruit is very good for you.

You can have a good diet by eating good food like fruits and vegetables.

But foods with a lot of sugar are not good.
Those will be bad for your diet.
You have to be careful with what you eat.

But I like to eat fruit more.

And that is a key word.

A carrot is a kind of vegetable.
It's orange and it has a point at the end.
You can eat carrots a lot of different ways.
Most people put carrots on their salad.
But you can also eat them by themselves.
Carrots are a very healthy vegetable to eat.
I sometimes eat them, but they're not my favorite vegetable to eat.
Just like Mark says, I don't like the taste of carrots.

We use this word taste when we talk about food.
The taste of a food is its flavor.
Mmhm. If you like the taste of a food, you usually like to eat the food.
If you don't like the taste of a food, you usually don't like to eat that food.
A lot of people may think that stinky tofu has a weird taste and that's why they
don't like to eat it.
They don't like the flavor.
Or a lot of people may think the taste of cookies or cake is great, so they like
to eat cookies.
Nathan, which food do you think has the best taste?
That's a really hard question.
There are salty foods and sweet foods and spicy foods.
I don't like salty things that much.
And spicy foods are good sometimes.
But I do like the flavor of some sweet things and of some things like meat.
Or some kinds of vegetables have a special taste that I really like.
Now we've been using this key word as a noun: taste.
But the word taste can also be a verb.
You can say the food tastes bad.
The word taste is a verb in that sentence.
Or like we have talked about today, you can say that the food has a bad taste.
In that sentence, the word taste is a noun.
OK, friends, we are out of time for this conversation.

What kinds of snacks do you eat?
Well, I like chocolate.
I like sweet food.
Me, too.
I like cookies and candy.
Chocolate and cookies taste good.
But don't eat them too often!

Mark likes to eat snacks, but he doesn't eat vegetables.
He likes chocolate and sweet food.
And Ken likes cookies and candy.

It's easy to make cookies at home, but not in the studio.

Candy is another sweet snack.

Well, they both have a lot of sugar in them.

You should think about how much sugar you eat when you think about your diet.
Nathan, do you eat a lot of candy?
No. Actually, I don't eat much candy, but I do often buy drinks. Yeah.
