Cruises are a great way to go on vacation, and there're so many things to do
when you go on a cruise.

We have a great lesson for you today, and I hope that you are ready to learn a

So where do you want to go for your next vacation?
How about going on a cruise?
Well, here to tell us all about cruises is my special guest for today - Mr. Carl
Cruise.

I love talking to people about cruises!
Cruises are becoming a popular vacation choice.
But how can people pick the right cruise?
Ask yourself, "Where do I want to go? What activities do I want to do?".
Different cruise ships offer different things, right?
That's right.
Some ships offer mini golf.
Some have rock climbing.
Others have bowling!
You're kidding!
We find out that it's important to ask yourself a few questions when you're
deciding to go on a cruise.
Ask: Where you want to go and what activities you want to do?
That's right.
But, Nathan, we need to talk about those two key words that you just used.
Yes. Let's learn about the first key word.
activity.
activity.
An activity is something you do.
When you take a vacation, you often do a lot of interesting activities.
That's right.
In school, you may do a lot of different activities also, like playing sports or
joining a club.
And on a cruise, some activities might be exercising, swimming or taking a new
class.
We talked about that yesterday.
But we find out today that different cruise ships offer or have different kinds
of activities.
And, Nathan, what do some ships have?
Well, some ships offer mini golf.
And that's another key word for today.
golf.
golf.
Golf is a sport.
When you play golf, you try to hit a very small white ball into a hole, a ball
just like this.
That's right.
You use a golf club to hit the ball.
Golf is played a lot in America.
You play on a golf course.
And there're 18 holes on one course.
Nathan, have you ever played golf before?
I have never played golf on a course.
I have played mini golf, and I've... I've gone to a place where you can hit golf
balls.
But not a whole game.
Well, this conversation says that you can play mini golf on a cruise.
Mini golf is different from normal golf because it is played on a smaller area.
That's why it's called mini.
That's right. Mini golf is a lot of fun.
I think that it is much easier than normal golf.
And we also find out that you can go rock climbing and bowling on a cruise.
I think Carl is right.
Cruises have a lot of activities.
That is right, Katie.
But we need to talk about another key word now.
bowling.
bowling.
Bowling is another sport.
When you bowl, you roll a ball down a lane to try to knock over some things that
are called pins.
That's right.
And bowling is so much fun.
It's a great activity to do with your family and your friends.
And today we are going to try bowling for you.
Let's see if I can do this.

That's pretty good, Katie.
All right, now I think it's time to move on to Conversation B.

Look online for cruise reviews.
And read about other people's experiences.
Good idea.
When is the best time to go on a cruise?
Well, that depends on where you want to go!
Have you ever been on a cruise, Rob?
No, I haven't.
But I would love to go on one.
Go during the low season, and your ship won't be as crowded.
That's good advice.
Thanks, Mr. Cruise!
Carl gives Rob another piece of advice, "Check the cruise ships' ads." And that
is a key word.

An advertisement is something that tries to get people to buy something else.
That's right.
We usually see ads in newspapers for stores.
When stores have a sale, they put ads up to tell people about the sale.
And you can find out about the cruises and what they offer by reading the ads.
The ads will tell you which activities a cruise has for people.
And you can also read reviews.
A review of a cruise will tell you the good and bad things about a cruise.
You can read about other people's experiences.
Carl uses today's "Use It!" sentence when he asks Rob, "Have you ever been on a
cruise?" Have you ever done something?
Let's use it!

Have you ever been to that country?
Have you ever learned another language?
OK, friends, say your own "Use It!" sentence.
But Rob hasn't been on a cruise.
Carl tells him to go during the low season.
If you travel during the low season, it won't be so crowded.
And Nathan, that is our next key word.

If some place is crowded, that means there are a lot of people there, like Ken
would say:
If it's crowded, there are people everywhere!
And cruises are crowded.
But other things can be crowded, too, like night markets.

But with so many cruises, it can be hard to pick one.
Think about a few things.
Where do you want to go?
What activities are you interested in?
Read ads about cruises.
Ships are offering more and more activities, such as golf, rock climbing and
bowling.
Also, when do you want to go?
If you go during a low season, your ship could be less crowded.
Well, friends, like our "Read it!" says, "Are you interested in going on a
cruise?" I know I am.
It's a popular vacation choice.
And that means that a lot of people like to go on cruises.
So when you decide to go on a cruise, you have to think about a few different
things.
You should think about where you want to go.
It's also important to think about which activities you're interested in or the
things you want to do on your cruise.
That's right.
And ships are offering people more activities.
We learned about golf and bowling already, but let's talk about rock climbing.
Hmm. When you go rock climbing, you climb up a wall using rocks that you hold on
to.
You have to be very strong to go rock climbing.
That's right.
Rock climbing is hard, but it's a fun activity.
