Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
This is the show where we have fun learning English together.
My name is Katie, and we are glad that you joined us today at LTE TV.
We're still talking about TRAVEL.
And we have part two of our lesson What Can You Do on a Cruise?
What Can You Do on a Cruise?
Nathan, do you think you would like to go on a cruise?
Well, I have heard so many good things about cruises.
And it sounds like there are many things that you can do, so I'm sure that I
would enjoy a cruise.
Hi, friends, my name is Nathan.
I am your other teacher here on Let's Talk in English.
Now it's time for our Let's Begin reading.
You can find your Let's Begin in your LTE magazine.
And when you find it, you can read along with Katie right now.
Let's begin!
Ken went on a cruise a few years ago.
He liked some things about it.
He sailed on the open sea.
He explored different places.
He could just leave his things in his room.
But he didn't like all the people.
The pools, restaurants and decks were always full.
There were people everywhere!
Hmm. So some people don't like cruises.
Well, let's find out more in Conversation A.
(Music).
Hi, Ken.
Didn't you go on a cruise a few years ago?
Yes.
Susie, are you doing a story about cruises?
Yes, I am.
So what did you think?
Did you enjoy your cruise?
Yes and no.
I liked the huge ship, the open sea and all the food.
And we watched movies under the stars!
That sounds fun.
What didn't you like?
The people!
We find out that Ken has also been on a cruise before.
Susie asks him if he enjoyed his cruise.
And his answer is a little funny.
What does he say, Nathan?
He says, "Yes and no." This means he liked some things and didn't like other
things.
So Ken liked the huge ship, the open sea, all the food and watching movies under
the stars.
But he didn't like the people.
Oh, Ken.
That's right, Nathan.
But he used a key word there, so let's learn about it.
sea.
sea.
The sea is the ocean.
Those words mean the same thing.
That's right.
Seas and oceans are different from lakes because the water is salty.
But some seas can also have land around them.
It is much bigger than a lake, but it's still called a sea.
So we go on a cruise on the ocean, but we can also say we go on a cruise on the
sea.
Friends, we're out of time for now, so let's move on to Conversation B.
(Music).
Don't you like people?
I do, but I like to be alone, too.
On my cruise, there were people everywhere!
Really? Everywhere?
Yes! The pools were full, the restaurants were full, the decks were full...
OK. Well, how about your room?
Didn't you have your own room?
Yes, but it was really small.
And my neighbors were loud.
I'm sorry.
We saw that Ken didn't like the people on his cruise.
And in Conversation B, we find out why he didn't like the people.
What does he say, Katie?
Well, he says that he likes to be alone.
But on his cruise, there were people everywhere.
And, Nathan, I think that's one of our key words for today.
You're right.
Friends, let's learn about this key word.
everywhere.
everywhere.
When we say people are everywhere, we mean that people are in every place.
There are people in every single area of the ship.
That's right.
If people are everywhere, we know that a place is very crowded.
At a night market, people are everywhere.
It's very crowded.
Ken says the pools were full, the restaurants were full, and the decks were
full.
If people are everywhere in a place, we often say that those places are full.
That's right.
And, Nathan, you just used another key word.
We should tell our friends about it.
Good idea.
Let's learn about other key word now.
(Music).
pool.
pool.
A pool is a place where you can swim.
It's usually a hole in the ground, and it's filled with water.
That's right.
There are many pools in cities that a lot of people can swim in.
And some people even have a pool at their own home.
I love to go swimming in pools.
Cruise ships usually have a pool on the deck.
The deck is the flat place where you walk on a ship outside.
OK. Let's move on to Conversation C.
I did like another thing about the cruise.
What's that?
Our ship stopped at interesting places.
I explored different places every day.
That's fun!
When the ship stops, you don't pack and unpack your things.
You leave them in your room on the ship.
That's convenient!
You just have to come back to the ship by the right time.
Or it will sail away without you!
Well, there was something else that Ken enjoyed on his cruise.
And that was exploring different places.
And that's a key word for today, so let's learn about it.
explore.
explore.
When you explore a new place, you walk around it so that you can know what is
there.
I love exploring new places because you get to see many new things.
When you travel, you often explore new places.
When you explore, it's easy to get lost.
So you should take a map.
That way you will not get lost.
And when you explore, it might be a good idea to take a friend.
That is another fun way to explore a new place.
Then we learn that when the ship stops, you don't have to take your things with
you.
Like Ken says, you leave them in your room on the ship.
That's right.
And that's a key word, so let's learn about this word.
leave.
leave.
If you leave something somewhere, you don't take it with you.
So when the ship stops at a new place, you don't have to take your things with
you.
They can stay in your room; you can leave them there.
Right. Now let's use this word in another way.
When you go to school, you don't want to leave your homework or books at home.
You need to take them with you.
Or when you go to the store, you don't want to leave your money at home.
You need to bring it to the store with you.
Like Susie says, it's convenient to be able to leave your things in your room on
the ship.
You just have to be back at the ship by the right time.
That's right.
If you don't come back on time, the ship will sail away without you.
That would not be good.
But that is our next key word.
sail.
sail.
When you sail on a boat, you travel on the water.
Ships sail, boats sail.
They sail on the water.
And if you like to be on boats, you can say that you enjoy sailing.
Sail is a verb.
But sailing is a noun.
We go sailing. But we sail boats.
So friends, remember, if you go on a cruise, you have to be at the boat at the
right time, or it will sail away without you.
The boat will leave without you.
That would not be a fun vacation.
Well, friends, I think it's time for us to review our key words for today.
Please say them with us now.
Here is the first key word.
(Music).
sail.
sail.
Randy sails his boat on the ocean.
sea.
sea.
The ship is on the sea.
explore.
explore.
I love to explore new places.
leave.
leave.
Don't leave your bag in the store.
pool.
pool.
You can swim in this pool.
everywhere.
everywhere.
I can't find Timmy. I looked everywhere!
OK. Thank you for practicing your key words with us.
Now it's time for a break.
Please be back to join us for the rest of the show.
