Welcome to a new show here on LTE TV.
We have a new topic and a new lesson for you here on Let's Talk in English.
Hello, my name is Nathan.
I'm very glad to be teaching you today.
Now today's topic is TRAVEL.
That's always a very fun topic.
And the title of our lesson is What Can You Do on a Cruise?
What Can You Do on a Cruise?
So, Katie, have you been on a cruise before?
Yes, Nathan, I have been on a cruise before.
Cruises are a lot of fun when you go on vacation.
And I would really like to go on a cruise again.
Hi, everyone, my name is Katie.
And we have a wonderful lesson for you today.
But before you can start learning, you need to read today's Let's Begin!
So take out your Let's Talk in English magazine and turn to the right page.
You can read with Nathan right now.
Let's begin!
Susie is reading about cruises.
She is doing a story about cruises this week.
She asks Carol about them.
Carol loves cruises.
She loves the people, the food and the shows.
There are music, dance, comedy and magic shows on cruises.
People can swim on a cruise ship.
They can do many other things, too.
Friends, let's go to Conversation A right now.
Hi, Susie. Are you working?
Yes, I am, Carol.
I'm reading about cruises.
Rob and I are doing stories about cruises this week.
That's right.
I love cruises.
Really?
What do you love about them?
Cruises are fun!
I love the ocean.
And you meet so many interesting people!
That's great.
A cruise.
Susie is reading about cruises.
I would like to be on a cruise right now.
But that's a key word today and we need to talk about it.
cruise.
cruise.
A cruise is a vacation that you take when you are on a big boat.
You can go on a cruise on the ocean.
You get to see many different things.
That's right.
You can go on a cruise for a few days or even a few weeks.
You are on the ocean.
And cruises are so much fun!
Just like Carol, I love cruises.
Have you been on a cruise, Nathan?
No. I have never been on a cruise.
I have just heard my friends talk about it.
But I know that on a cruise, you can make different stops.
You ride on a boat from one place to another.
And I know that when you go on a cruise, you get to meet a lot of interesting
people.
I think that would be fun.
Now we also learn that Susie and Rob are doing stories about cruises this week.
And that is another key word.
You're right, Katie.
So let's learn about it.
story.
story.
When you do a story at a TV station or a newspaper, you tell people about
something.
It's usually something important like things that happen in your town or
somewhere in the world.
That's right.
To do a story at a TV station or a newspaper, you have to look up a lot of
information and talk to a lot of different people.
You have to be able to tell the people who are watching you the right things.
Katie, you used to work at a newspaper.
Did you ever do a story about cruises?
Well, no, I never did a story about cruises.
But I did do lots of other stories about different things like sports and games.
Now, friends, let's look at a phrase in Conversation A.
Carol says that she loves cruises, and then Susie asks what she loves about
them.
She wants to know what Carol loves about cruises.
So let's try another example.
I can say that I love musicals and movies.
And I would answer Nathan: Really? What do you love about them?
Well, they have great stories.
That's not the same as our key word, but I think you know what I mean.
OK, friends, let's have some more fun together with Conversation B.
And the food!
Cruises always have good food.
I like good food.
On a cruise, you can eat anytime!
Anytime? Can you eat all day?
Sure! And you never clean up!
That's nice.
I also love the shows!
What kind of shows?
Music, dance, comedy, magic...
So there are many different kinds of shows.
That's right!
Well, Carol really loves cruises.
She talks about them a lot.
She loves many things about cruises.
Nathan, what is one thing that she likes?
First, she says that cruises always have good food.
Is that true, Katie?
Yes. Cruises always have a lot of food.
And they usually have a special cook who makes really good food.
You can eat a lot on a cruise and you can eat at any time of the day.
And Carol also says, "You never clean up!" So you can just leave your dishes and
someone else will clean up for you.
That sounds so easy.
And then Carol says she loves the shows.
We find out that there are many kinds of shows on cruises.
There are music, dance, comedy and magic shows.
Let's learn about that key word.
magic.
magic.
If you go to a magic show, you go to a show where someone plays tricks on the
people who are watching the show.
That's right.
At a magic show, the man putting on the show might make someone disappear or go
away.
Or he might pull something out of a hat.
Magic shows are fun because you never know what will happen.
Friends, we're out of time, so let's learn some more in Conversation C.
(Music).
What else can you do on a cruise?
You can swim.
You can take a class.
You can shop, too.
You can shop on the ship?
Yes! You can also exercise, watch movies, play games...
You can do a lot of things on a cruise.
Yes, you can.
Well, I don't need the Internet.
I can learn about cruises from you!
In Conversation C, Susie uses our "Use It!" sentence for today.
What else can you do on a cruise?
What else can you do somewhere?
So let's use it.
What else can you do at the park?
What else can you do on the mountain?
Or what else can you do at the mall?
There's a lot of good questions.
OK, friends, we find out that you can also swim or take classes on a cruise.
I just used another key word to talk about.
swim.
swim.
When you swim, you move through the water.
And you can swim in a pool or a lake or even in the ocean.
That's right.
Swimming is a lot of fun, but you have to be careful when you swim.
You have to learn how to do it because when you swim, your feet cannot touch the
ground.
It's important to know how to swim.
Katie, do you know how to swim?
Yes. I know how to swim.
Many people learn how to swim when they are very young.
I learned how to swim when I was around 5 years old.
Hmm. But there's even more things that you can do on a cruise.
Not just swimming, you can shop on a cruise.
There are many things to buy on a cruise.
That's right.
But Susie is surprised.
She asks Carol: You can shop on the ship?
And that is the last key word for today.
ship.
ship.
A ship is a really big boat.
It's huge.
A ship can hold many people.
Some cruise ships can even carry thousands of people.
That's right.
Cruise ships can hold many people.
But a small boat... small boat can only hold about 5 to 10 people.
It all depends on the size of the boat or ship.
And you also sleep on the ship.
Cruise ships have rooms for people who are on the cruise.
But those rooms are very small.
You don't have a lot of space in your room on the ship.
Friends, we're out of time right now, so let's review today's key words.
Say them with us.
The first one is:
cruise.
cruise.
Let's go on a cruise. I love the ocean.
story.
story.
Sam is doing a story about the war.
magic.
magic.
Watch this magic show. It is amazing!
swim.
swim.
Do people swim in this lake?
ship.
ship.
The Titanic is a famous ship.
OK, friends, thank you for practicing your key words with us.
We hope that you can use them soon.
Right now we want to take a short break.
Please don't go away.
