Hello and welcome to LTE TV.
It's review time.
My name is Katie, and I'm one of your LTE teachers.
It's the last Saturday show in September, so let's review.
Last week our friends at LTE TV started planning a bike trip.
What can they take when they go on their bike trip?
And then later, Mark... answered Carol's phone when she was away.
Who called her phone?
And did Mark take a message?
Listen carefully as we review last week's lessons.
(Music).
Hi, Mark.
Are you going somewhere?
Yes!
I'm planning a bike trip around Lake George.
Wow, fun!
I really like biking.
And Lake George looks beautiful!
It is.
Will you rent a bike?
No, I have one.
Do you have a bike?
Yes! Why do you ask?
Maybe we can go together!
That's a great idea!
Megan, Rob and Ken have bikes, too.
You can invite them!
Cool! Look at this map.
There are three bike paths around the lake.
OK. Tell me about them.
One is easy.
But it's very long.
Another one is short.
But it's also difficult!
No thanks.
I don't want a difficult path!
Then we can ride on the third path.
Is it hard?
No, not really.
Anybody can ride on that path.
My book says that.
How long is that ride?
About four hours.
Is that too long?
No! That's perfect.
Great! Let's talk to Ken, Rob and Megan.
Then we can plan together!
Hey, Megan!
Are you excited about the bike trip this weekend?
I am!
But my bike has a flat tire.
Uh-oh!
You can't ride with a flat tire.
I know.
Don't worry.
I'll fix it this week!
Good.
The bike ride will be about four hours long.
Should we pack food for the trip?
Sure.
We can stop for lunch!
Are there any good places for a picnic along the path?
Maybe.
But I don't really know.
Let's ask Rob!
Does Rob go to Lake George often?
Yes.
He will know the best spot for a picnic!
Look at this map.
The path goes through the forest.
It also goes along the water.
Great!
This trip is sounding better and better!
What else should we take?
A camera.
I want to take lots of pictures.
OK. What else?
A cellphone.
We might need one if we get lost!
We can't forget our helmets!
And maybe we can take a Frisbee!
And badminton rackets!
I can bring my guitar...
Uh, Mark.
It's a bike trip!
Let's just ride our bikes!
(Music).
Where is Carol?
Her phone is ringing.
(Background Noise).
Where is Megan?
She usually answers Carol's phone.
Well, I can answer the phone.
Hello.
Hello, may I speak with Carol Fisher?
Um, no. She's not here.
When will she be back?
I don't know.
Where is she?
Do you know?
No. I have no idea.
Well, goodbye.
Bye.
Mark, what are you doing in Carol's office?
Hey, Megan.
I just answered Carol's phone.
Oh, well, thank you.
Where were you?
I was... busy.
So who called?
I don't know.
Did the person leave a message?
No, he didn't.
Did you ask him, "May I take a message?".
No, I didn't.
What are you doing?
I'm calling the man back.
He might be important.
But you don't know his phone number.
I can see his number on Carol's phone.
But you don't know his name.
I can ask him.
But he isn't answering his phone.
No, he's not.
I can write his number down.
Then I can call him back later.
Hi, guys.
Hi, Megan.
I'm sorry about yesterday.
What happened yesterday?
I answered Carol's phone because Megan wasn't around.
I was in the bathroom!
And Mark didn't answer the phone very well.
Did you hang up on someone, Mark?
No.
I just didn't get any information from the caller.
Were you able to reach him, Megan?
Yes, I talked to him this morning.
So who called?
Was the call important?
Yes.
The caller was Andy Actor.
The famous actor?
I talked to Andy Actor on the phone yesterday?
Yes!
And he was a little upset about your phone conversation.
Oh. I wasn't very polite to him.
Maybe next time, you shouldn't answer Carol's phone.
Maybe next time, you should do your job.
Then I won't have to.
Mark, why did you answer Carol's phone?
Her phone kept ringing!
It bothered me.
I'm sorry.
I was only away for a few minutes.
I'm sorry, too.
I shouldn't answer Carol's phone.
Well, if you do, please take a message.
I will.
And say, "Carol will return your call soon.".
Or just get some earplugs and let the phone ring!
(Music).
Hello, friends.
Welcome to Let's Talk!
So do you have good phone manners?
Well, we are going to learn all about phone manners from our guest for today,
Ms. Tami Telephone.
Welcome to the show, Tami Telephone.
Thanks, Rob.
I'm glad to be here.
You're here to talk to us about good phone manners.
That's right!
Having good phone manners is important.
True.
Especially when you answer the phone for someone else.
Maybe for a family member or a boss at work.
That's right.
You need to be polite.
So give us some advice.
Make your voice sound pleasant.
(Background Noise).
Explain more about having a pleasant voice.
You should sound happy when talking to the caller.
What if you don't feel happy?
What if you're tired?
Put a smile on your face, and you will sound happy.
OK. That's good advice.
Also, pronounce your words clearly.
Some people have trouble hearing.
What did you say?
Just kidding.
Thanks for the advice!
Phone manners are important, especially when answering the phone for someone
else.
When you answer the phone, how do you sound?
Does your voice sound pleasant?
Do you sound happy to talk to the caller?
Or do you sound tired or busy?
Even if you don't feel happy, put a smile on your face.
Then you will sound more pleasant.
Also, remember to pronounce your words clearly.
Some people have trouble hearing on the phone.
It's time to review this week's lessons.
We had a great week.
And Chris and I are excited to review.
Yes. We are very excited.
Hey, Katie, do you think we should get it started?
Yes, we should.
OK, friends, this week we found out Megan is planning a bike trip around Lake
George.
A bike trip.
Oh, lucky Megan!
Oh, I agree.
I like to bike.
But after they look at the map, we also learned that the path go somewhere.
Chris, where does it go?
Hmm, well, I remember from the conversations that it goes through the forest.
That's right.
But it goes somewhere else, too.
Uh... Oh, I remember now.
It goes along the water.
That's right, Chris. Good job.
This sounds like a great bike trip.
OK, friends, we also had a bit of a situation at the office.
Oh, that's right.
Mark answers Carol's phone.
But he does something wrong.
That's right.
He does not take a message.
And then Megan calls the man back.
So, Chris, here is my question for you.
OK. I am ready, Katie.
Who was the man who called?
Oh, I know the answer.
The man who called was Andy Actor.
That's right.
Andy Actor called and Mark was a little rude.
Oops.
Friends, you have to be careful if you answer someone's phone.
You can't be rude.
That's right.
I am never rude.
I am nice to people on the phone.
Well, that's important, Chris.
All right, friends, let's take a short break.
We'll be rightback.
