All the way from Taipei, this is Let's Talk in English.
We are here in the LTE TV studio, and we are ready to have some fun.
Hi, friends.
My name is Nathan, and I'm one of your teachers here.
Today we want to continue our topic...
ENTERTAINMENT.
And we have a new lesson for you.
We Want Tickets!
We Want Tickets!
Katie, where do you usually buy tickets?
Well, Nathan, that is a great question, and I am excited to answer it.
Hi, friends. My name is Katie, and I am your other LTE teacher.
And whenever I buy tickets, I usually buy them online.
Buying tickets online is the quickest and easiest way to find them when I want
to go to a concert.
Well, maybe Rob's guest today can tell us some more about buying tickets in
Conversation A.
(Music).
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk!
Do you like to go to concerts?
How do you buy your concert tickets?
Well, here to talk to us all about tickets is my guest for today, Mr. Tom
Ticket.
Welcome to the show, Mr. Ticket!
Thank you, Rob.
I love concerts and shows.
But sometimes I can't get a ticket!
Well, Rob, there are several ways to buy tickets.
Let's talk about them.
You can buy tickets at a box office.
Right. The box office is at the concert hall.
Yes.
And you can pay with cash or credit card.
Yes. Either is fine!
(Music).
Rob has a special guest today.
His name is Mr. Ticket.
Mr. Ticket gives us a lot of great tips on where to buy tickets when we want to
go to shows.
Sometimes it's hard to get a ticket, but Mr. T is very helpful.
That's right.
First, Mr. T says, "You can buy tickets at a box office." We can get tickets at
the concert hall.
Katie, that's our first key word for today.
hall.
hall.
A hall is a large room or building that's used for an event.
A hall is usually huge.
That's right.
There are concert halls.
So at these halls, there are a lot of concerts.
And there are also threater halls.
Ther are many plays at those kinds of halls.
And there are also halls at large colleges.
You may have class in a large hall in one of the buildings.
So friends, when you want tickets, you can buy them at the box office at the
concert hall.
The box office is the place where you buy tickets.
And when you do this, you can pay with cash or credit card.
And those are the next two key words.
Yes. We should look at both of them, but let's look at one right now.
cash.
cash.
Cash is paper and coin money like some that Katie has here.
Some places only let you pay with cash.
There are different kinds of cash, though.
That's right.
In the United States, we have cash for $1, $5, $10.
And they also have cash for $20, $50 and $100.
Then they also have coins for 1, 5, 10 and 25 cents.
But different countries have different kinds of cash.
In Taipei, we have cash for $100, $500 and $1,000.
That's true.
Cash is very different in different places.
And coins are small metal pieces for money.
Now let's look at our next key word together.
credit card.
credit card.
A credit card is a small... or big, plastic card that lets you pay for things
when you do not have cash with you.
That's right. When you use your credit card, you pay for the item later.
You do not have to pay right away.
So credit cards can be convenient, but you have to be careful when you use one.
Now, my credit card is much smaller than this one.
But Mr. T says that cash or credit card is fine to buy tickets.
You can pay with either one.
It doesn't matter which you choose.
Well, friends, let's move on to Conversation B right now and see what else there
is to learn.
(Music).
I sometimes buy tickets by phone.
That's a good way, too.
You can call the box office or the ticket company.
And many people buy tickets online.
Of course!
That's the easiest way!
And the best way, I think.
I agree.
First, choose the show.
Second, select the number of tickets.
Then, choose where you want to sit.
Finally, pay!
Buy your tickets early.
Sometimes they sell out!
We find out in Conversation B that Rob sometimes buys tickets by phone.
You can call the box office or ticket company when you want to buy tickets.
And many people buy tickets online.
Like Rob and Mr. T say - That's the easiest and the best way.
But what do you think, Katie?
Well, like I said earlier, I think buying tickets online is the easiest way to
get tickets.
And then, friends, Mr. T tells us how to buy tickets.
What do we do first?
First, we have to choose the show that we want to see.
That is very important.
After that, you select the number of tickets you want to buy.
And, friend, that's a key word for today.
Let's learn about it.
select.
select.
When you select something, you choose it.
You choose the number of tickets that you need.
That is right.
You select the number of tickets.
When you go to a restaurant, you also select the food you want to eat.
You choose it.
And when you go to a store, you select what you want to buy.
You choose that as well.
So when you want to buy tickets, you have to select the show you want to see.
And then, you have to choose where you want to sit.
That is also very important.
But the last piece of advice we learn about is to buy your tickets early.
Because sometimes the tickets sell out.
And that's another key word.
sell out.
sell out.
If something sells out, that means that there are none left.
We often say that movies "sell out," which means there are no tickets left for
the movie.
Or, sometimes stores sell out of really popular things.
Sometimes you can't buy a new cell phone because the store has sold out of the
newest kind of cell phone.
That happens.
And if tickets sell out when you want to go to a show, you can't buy the
tickets.
You have to wait for a different show.
OK. Now, let's move on to Read It and learn some more.
(Music).
Going to concerts is fun.
There are many different ways to buy concert tickets.
You can buy tickets at a concert hall box office.
You can pay with cash or a credit card.
You can call the box office or ticket company to buy tickets by phone.
You can also buy tickets on the Internet.
It's easy.
First, choose the concert or show.
Next, select the number of tickets and where to sit.
Finally, pay.
Buy tickets early.
Sometimes they sell out!
In our Read It, we learn about an important phrase.
box office.
Now let's learn about this phrase.
We talked about it a little earlier about a box office is the place in a theater
where tickets are sold.
So, you go to the box office when you want to buy tickets or when you want to
pick your tickets up.
That's right.
A box office is where you buy tickets.
Now we see another interesting word that I think we can talk about in Read It.
It says, "To choose the concert or show." A show is what you are going to see.
But sometimes it means a movie.
Other times it may mean something different like a live play at a theater.
That's right.
And we also call a concert a show.
I can say I'm going to my favorite band's concert or my favorite band's show.
Both can work.
Yes, both can work.
And friends, don't forget to buy your tickets early.
Buy them before the show.
If you don't, they might sell out.
Now Nathan, that's a great piece of advice.
It's never fun when shows sell out.
Well, friends, let's continue learning and practice our key words right now.
This is your first key word.
hall.
hall.
Which hall was the concert in?
cash. cash.
I have five dollars in cash.
credit card.
credit card.
I paid for my drink with my credit card.
select.
select.
Select a song to sing.
sell out.
sell out.
Did that movie sell out tonight?
I hope not!
That would not be very fun!
OK, friends, we need to take a short break now.
But we have more to learn and more to talk about before the show isfinished.
