Welcome to LTE TV.
My name is Katie, and I'm glad that you could join us today.
It's time to review our lessons on ACTIVITIES and FOOD.
Hi, Megan.
What are you doing?
I'm looking for my new ring.
What does it look like?
It is silver and has flowers on it.
I can help you.
Thanks.
Is this your ring?
Yes!
Thanks, Susie!
My new ring is too big for my finger.
So your ring falls off?
That's right.
Can you wear your ring on a different finger?
No.
The ring is too big for all of my fingers.
Can you wear the ring on one of your toes?
A toe ring!
No.
It is too big for my toes, too.
Why did you buy it?
Because it's beautiful.
You can wear the ring on a sting around your neck.
Good idea.
So, Megan, what's different about me today?
Do you see anything?
Oh! You're wearing earrings!
I am!
Do you like them?
They are pretty.
But you never wear earrings.
I know.
I'm trying something new.
Good for you.
Do you like your new earrings?
They are pretty.
But no, I don't really like them.
They hurt my ears!
(Music).
Hi, Carol.
Hi, Megan.
That's an interesting necklace.
My ring on a string?
Someone needs to fix my ring.
It's too big.
I see.
Do you know of a good jewelry store?
Yes.
I like Jana's Jewelry in the mall.
Great.
I'll go there after work.
Hey, did you make your earrings?
I did!
Can you show me how?
I want to make some earrings, too.
Sure.
Do you ever make any other kinds of jewelry?
I used to make friendship bracelets when I was young.
With colorful strings?
Those are fun.
And I sometimes make bead necklaces.
OK.
Do you have any tools to make earrings?
What tools do I need?
Let me show you a website.
This is a great website.
I can follow the steps.
And you can design your own unique earrings.
How fun!
But I do need to buy a few things first.
You might be able to find the things at a craft store.
There's a good craft store in the mall.
I can go there after work.
Hey, do you want to go shopping together?
Sure!
(Music).
Are you ready for lunch, Mark?
Sure, Ken.
Let's eat Chinese food.
There is a new restaurant down the street.
OK.
I love Chinese food!
That's good.
Can you use chopsticks?
Yes.
But I can't use them very well.
So I usually eat with a fork.
That's fine, too.
Chinese restaurants always have forks.
I don't have very good Chinese table manners.
How do you know?
Rob and I eat Chinese food sometimes.
He laughs at me.
Why does he do that?
I don't pick up my bowl.
I drop food on the table, too.
That's OK.
You can't eat some foods with chopsticks very well.
I once did something else wrong, too.
What did you do?
I stuck my chopsticks into my bowl of rice.
Uh-oh. That is rude.
I know that now.
So I put my chopsticks on the table.
Good.
That's polite.
So let's go eat.
Does this restaurant have fried rice?
That's my favorite.
Of course!
I had a good lunch today!
Did you eat with the reporter from China?
Wei Qiang?
Yes, he's visiting again.
We ate at Sam's Steak House.
Mr. Wei wanted a steak.
Sam's has good steaks.
Yes, and we enjoyed it.
But someone needs to talk to Mr. Wei about his table manners.
I will.
But I didn't want to embarrass him at lunch.
Are Western table manners very different from Chinese table manners?
Well, when you eat Chinese food, you use chopsticks.
And when you eat Western food, you use knives and forks.
That's right.
And you wait to eat until everyone gets their food.
But Mr. Wei started as soon as he got his food.
That isn't very polite.
No, it's not.
Mr. Wei also didn't put his napkin on his lap.
Uh-oh.
That's not good manners.
I know.
And he used the wrong fork to eat his steak.
He also reached for things on the table.
He didn't ask someone to pass them to him.
Mark can explain Western table manners to him.
I will.
And maybe he can explain Chinese table manners to us!
(Music).
Hello, everyone.
Welcome to Let's Talk.
Do you like to eat out in restaurants?
What are some good manners to remember when you are in a restaurant?
Well, today's guest will help us to learn all about that.
Please help me welcome Mr. Paul Polite!
Welcome to our show, Paul.
Thanks for having me, Rob.
You know a lot about manners.
What should people remember when eating out in a restaurant?
You should be considerate of other people.
Restaurants have lots of customers, not just you.
So you shouldn't talk too loudly at the table.
Or laugh too loud.
Or make too much noise.
Let other people enjoy their meals, too.
How should you treat your server?
You should treat him or her with respect.
So you should say "please" and "thank you"?
Yes!
And if the service was good, leave a good tip.
Right.
About 20 percent of the bill, right?
Yes, that's right.
Is there anything else people should remember?
Yes.
Don't use a toothpick at the table.
Wait until you are in your car or another private place.
When you eat at a restaurant, you should be considerate of other people.
Restaurants have many customers, not just you.
Don't talk too loudly at your table.
Also treat your server with respect.
Say "please" when ordering and "thank you" when receiving.
If the service was good, leave a tip of about 20 percent.
And after the meal, do not use a toothpick at the table.
Wait until you are in a private place.
Hello again, friends.
It's time to review.
Let's see if you were paying attention.
That's right.
Lucky for you, Katie, you have me here again to help.
That's right.
I'd be lost without you, Chris.
I'm sure you wouldn't.
Are you ready to review, Katie?
Of course! I'm ready.
All right.
Here is the first question.
What did Carol use to make when she was young?
I know, I know!
Pick me, Katie, pick me!
OK.
Chris, since you're so excited, why don't you answer the question?
Oh, yes!
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!
Thank you! Thank you!
OK.
Carol used to make friendship bracelets when she was young.
That's exactly right.
Great job, Chris.
Well, I told you I knew the answer.
Well, let's see if you can answer this question.
Ken can use chopsticks.
Yes, he can use chopsticks.
Right.
But is there anything else?
Uh... oh!
Oh, I know.
He can use chopsticks.
But he can't use them very well.
That's right.
Can you use chopsticks, Chris?
No.
My wings get in my way.
It makes me sad.
I love Chinese food.
Well, that's too bad, Chris.
I love the Chinese food, too.
Well, it's a good thing you live in Asia, then.
I agree.
OK, one last question for you since you're doing so well.
Oh, I'm ready, Katie.
OK. Who did Ken eat lunch with?
Wow. You're giving me such easy questions.
Ken ate with the reporter from China.
Right. But what was his name?
Uh, hmm, his name was Wei... Qiang.
Good job, Chris.
You were great at answering questions today.
OK, friends, it's time for us to take a short break.
Don't goaway.
