Hi, friends.
Welcome to our show here in the LTE TV studio.
This is Let's Talk in English, where we make learning English fun.
I'm your teacher Nathan.
We're going to have a great day today.
Our topic is ACTIVITIES.
And the title of our lesson is still Beautiful Jewelry.
Beautiful Jewelry.
Katie, do you like to wear beautiful jewelry?
Of course I do, Nathan.
I love to wear beautiful jewelry.
I try to wear a little bit of jewelry every day, like earrings or a ring.
Hi, everyone.
My name is Katie, and I'm your other LTE teacher.
I hope that you're ready for today's lesson.
So let's get ready for it.
Take out your LTE magazine and turn to today's Let's Begin!
You can read with Nathan right now.
Let's begin!
Carol and Megan talk about making jewelry, such as necklaces and bracelets.
Megan makes pretty earrings, and Carol wants to learn how.
Megan shows Carol a website.
Carol needs to buy some tools and other things.
She can follow the steps on the website and design her own unique earrings.
OK. Let's go to Conversation A and find out some more there.
(Music).
Hi, Carol.
Hi, Megan.
That's an interesting necklace.
My ring on a string?
Someone needs to fix my ring.
It's too big.
I see.
Do you know of a good jewelry store?
Yes.
I like Jana's Jewelry in the mall.
Great!
I'll go there after work.
Hey, did you make your earrings?
I did.
In Conversation A, Megan is still wearing her ring on a string around her neck.
We learned about that yesterday.
But today we'll learn what that is called.
That's right.
And Carol says to Megan: That's an interesting necklace.
There's the first key word.
necklace.
necklace.
A necklace is something that you wear around your neck.
That's right.
I wear a necklace every day.
You can wear short necklaces or long necklaces.
I think that they're a fun piece of jewelry.
And you know men can wear necklaces too.
I used to wear necklaces often, but they did not look like Katie's necklace.
Now Megan made her own necklace.
She put her ring on a string around her neck.
That's a necklace.
But Megan says that someone needs to fix her ring because it keeps falling off
of her finger.
Now we learned that key word phrase "fall off" yesterday.
But what does she mean here, Nathan?
Well, if you get a ring fixed, that means that you get it resized.
You change the size.
You make the ring bigger or smaller so that it fits on your finger.
You want your ring to be the right size.
That's right.
And then Megan asks Carol if she knows about a good jewelry store.
That's another key word and a very important one.
jewelry.
jewelry.
Jewelry is what many people wear.
Jewelry is rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, too.
That's right.
You can buy many different kinds of jewelry.
You wear jewelry on your body.
Now Katie, do you think most women like to wear jewelry?
Yes, I definitely think so.
Jewelry is fun to wear, and I usually wear some every day.
But we find out in Conversation A that Megan doesn't just wear jewelry.
What does she do, Katie?
Well, she also makes jewelry.
Carol asks Megan if she made her earrings, and Megan says that she did.
That's right.
Megan made her own earrings.
That sounds interesting.
Now Katie, why don't we try to remember all of our jewelry key words from today
and yesterday that we've talked about already?
So the last one was necklace, right?
That's right.
A necklace is something that you wear around your neck.
And yesterday we also learned about earrings.
Those are pieces of jewelry that you wear on your ears.
And Nathan, what was the other piece of jewelry that we learned about?
The last thing was a ring that you wear on your finger.
But there are more kinds in Conversation B I think that we will talk about.
(Music).
Can you show me how?
I want to make some earrings, too.
Sure.
Do you ever make any other kinds of jewelry?
I used to make friendship bracelets when I was young.
With colorful strings?
Those are fun.
And I sometimes make bead necklaces.
OK.
Do you have any tools to make earrings?
What tools do I need?
Let me show you a website.
(Music).
Well, in Conversation B, Carol wants Megan to show her how to make jewelry.
She wants to make some earrings.
And Megan asks if she ever made any other kinds of jewelry.
And what does Carol say, Katie?
Well, Carol says that she used to make friendship bracelets when she was young.
I used to do that, too.
Uh, wait, friendship bracelets?
Um, what... what are those, Katie?
Well, let's learn about it because "bracelet" is our next key word.
bracelet.
bracelet.
A bracelet is a piece of jewelry that you wear on your wrist.
You wear it in the same place that you wear a watch.
Um, OK, so are you wearing a friendship bracelet?
Well, actually no.
A friendship bracelet is a bracelet that a lot of girls make when they are
young.
They are made out of cloth or string.
After you make one, you usually give it to a friend.
It's a fun thing for girls to do.
Hmm.
That's a cool idea.
So Carol used to make friendship bracelets.
And she sometimes makes bead bracelets.
Beads are small items that you can put on a bracelet or on a necklace.
That's right.
And later Megan asks if Carol has any tools to make earrings.
Let's look at that key word next.
tool.
tool.
A tool is something that you use to fix or make something.
If you are building a house, you usually need a lot of tools.
You need a hammer and nails.
That's one kind of tool.
And if you are making earrings, you need things like string and wire, or maybe
some scissors or beads.
Those are some good tools for making earrings.
Many times if you are working on a project, your teacher or someone may ask you
if you have the tools you need to do the job.
They want to know if you have the things you need to be able to finish the
project.
That's right.
It's important to have the right tools when you are trying to do a project.
And Carol needs some tools to be able to make her own earrings.
But she doesn't know what she needs.
Well, that's OK, though, because Megan can show her a website.
And I think that the website would probably tell her what she needs to make the
jewelry.
That's true.
I'm sure that the website would tell her which tools she needs.
Well, I think that we should go to Conversation C and find out if Carol does
learn what she needs.
(Music).
This is a great website.
I can follow the steps.
And you can design your own unique earrings.
How fun!
But I do need to buy a few things first.
You might be able to find the things at a craft store.
There's a good craft store in the mall.
I can go there after work.
Hey, do you want to go shopping together?
Sure!
It looks like Megan really helped Carol out.
Carol says she can follow the steps.
Now what does she mean right here, Katie?
Well, when she says she can follow the steps, she means she can follow the
website and learn how to make her own jewelry.
That's right.
If you follow the steps, you do what someone says to do.
And then Megan says she can design her own earrings.
And there's a key word for today.
design.
design.
If you design something, you make it.
People who make jewelry design jewelry.
That's right.
Or someone who draws buildings designs buildings.
You can design a lot of things.
You can design your own jewelry by making your own.
If you want, you can even design your own home someday by deciding what you want
it to look like.
Some people even design their own clothes.
When I lived in America, I designed newspapers.
I got to choose the photos and stories that went into the newspaper every day.
And friends, our "Use It!" sentence for today is...
You might be able to find the things at a craft store.
So let's try to use it.
You might be able to watch a movie at Tom's house.
You might be able to go to the museum this weekend.
Or you might be able to practice key words right now.
Here is the first key word.
jewelry.
jewelry.
Mom wears a lot of fancy jewelry.
necklace.
necklace.
This necklace is too small for my neck.
bracelet.
bracelet.
That bracelet looks nice on your wrist.
tool.
tool.
What tools do you need for this job?
design.
design.
Monique designs beautiful clothes.
All right, friends, we hope that you remembered all of those key words about
jewelry.
They are some good words to know.
Right now we're going to take a short break.
But don't go away.
We'll be rightback.
