Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
Thank you for joining us here at LTE TV.
My name is Katie, and we hope that you're ready to learn a lot today.
We have a new topic for you:
ACTIVITIES.
And the title of today's lesson is Beautiful Jewelry.
Beautiful Jewelry.
Now Nathan, what do you want to learn about jewelry?
That's a great question. Um, I'm not really sure.
Maybe there's something interesting about jewelry I can learn.
Well, friends, my name is Nathan.
I'm sure some of you are interested in jewelry.
So let's start this lesson.
First, we need to read Let's Begin in your LTE magazine.
Katie will read it with you right now.
Let's begin!
Megan has a new ring.
It is silver and beautiful.
But it is too big for all of her fingers.
It falls off.
Can she wear the ring on one of her toes?
Maybe she can wear it on a string around her neck.
Susie is wearing some earrings.
Megan likes them.
But Susie doesn't!
They hurt her ears!
OK. Now let's go to Conversation A and get our lesson started.
(Music).
Hi, Megan.
What are you doing?
I'm looking for my new ring.
What does it look like?
It is silver and has flowers on it.
I can help you.
Thanks.
Is this your ring?
Yes!
Thanks, Susie!
My new ring is too big for my finger.
So your ring falls off?
That's right.
In Conversation A, Megan is looking for something.
We use the phrase "look for" when we have lost something or we don't know where
something is.
And Nathan, what is Megan looking for?
She says she is looking for her new ring.
I think that's the first key word for today.
Well, let's look at it.
ring.
ring.
A ring is a piece of jewelry that you usually wear on your fingers.
But you can also wear rings on your toes.
Um, that's right. Uh, there are a lot of different kinds of rings.
People wear wedding rings, class rings and rings just for fun.
So really, a lot of people wear rings.
But most of them wear rings on their fingers.
Katie, do you wear a ring?
I do, actually.
It's right here.
I always wear it, and it's silver like Megan's and has a cat on it.
But Megan's ring has flowers on it.
Now friends, the color silver is a color that is close to gray.
It's usually shiny.
Mmhm.
Many rings are made of silver.
Some are also made of gold.
Now we know that Megan is looking for her ring.
Lucky for her, Susie finds it.
And then Megan says that her ring is too big for her finger.
And because it is too big, Megan's ring falls off.
And that's the next key word phrase.
fall off.
fall off.
If something falls off of something else, it comes off of that thing easily.
That's right.
Megan's ring falls off of her finger.
It comes off of her finger easily.
We can use this word other ways too.
Maybe your books fall off your desk sometimes.
Or maybe something falls off the shelf in your room.
Things may also fall off of something else because they don't fit well.
Now remember? We talked about sizes a couple of months ago.
Megan's ring falls off because the ring is not the right size for her finger.
Right.
Megan's ring does not fit her.
She says, "My ring is too big for my finger." Or sometimes we may buy shoes that
are too big for our feet and they fall off, too.
That's right.
Or as people, we may fall off of something else if you trip and fall.
There are a lot of ways to use the phrase.
Try to use it today.
OK, friends, we're out of time for now.
Let's learn more in Conversation B.
(Music).
Can you wear your ring on a different finger?
No.
The ring is too big for all of my fingers.
Can you wear the ring on one of your toes?
A toe ring!
No, it is too big for my toes, too.
Why did you buy it?
Because it's beautiful.
You can wear the ring on a string around your neck.
Good idea.
Susie is so helpful today.
She gives Megan advice on what to do with her new ring.
What is the first thing she tells Megan to do?
Well, she asks if Megan can wear the ring on a different finger.
But Megan says it's too big for all of her fingers.
But Susie gives Megan another idea.
She asks if Megan can wear the ring on one of her toes.
And friends, like we said earlier, you can wear rings on your toes.
A lot of girls wear toe rings during the summer when you usually wear sandals.
But Megan says the ring is too big for all of her fingers and toes.
Then why would she buy it?
Well, Megan says she bought it because it's beautiful.
I've done that before, too.
Well, Susie has one last idea for Megan.
She says Megan can wear the ring on a string around her neck.
OK. Let's learn about that key word.
neck.
neck.
Your neck is between your head and your shoulders.
That's right.
Your head sits on your neck.
And Susie says Megan can put a string around her neck and put the ring on it.
That's a great way to wear a ring if it is too big for you.
Well, that's some good advice.
Maybe there will be more advice in Conversation C, too.
So, Megan, what's different about me today?
Do you see anything?
Oh! You're wearing earrings!
I am!
Do you like them?
They are pretty.
But you never wear earrings.
I know.
I'm trying something new.
Good for you.
Do you like your new earrings?
They are pretty.
But no, I don't really like them.
They hurt my ears!
Well, Susie asks Megan a question at the beginning of Conversation C.
She asks, "What's different about me today?" She has changed something about
herself, and she wants Megan to notice.
Megan sees it quickly.
She says, "You're wearing earrings." And that's a key word.
earring.
earring.
An earring is another piece of jewelry.
You wear them on your ears.
That's right.
And you usually wear two earrings at a time - one on each ear.
Well, Nathan, you just used our next key word.
So friends, let's take a look.
ear.
ear.
Your ears are on your head.
You have two ears, and you use your ears to hear things around you.
That's right.
We listen with our ears.
And like we learn today, you can also wear earrings on your ears.
I love to wear earrings on my ears.
And friends, in the word "earring," you see the word "ear" and "ring." Those
were two of our key words.
Earrings are rings for your ears.
Those might be my favorite kind of jewelry.
Oh, really?
Well, Susie is wearing earrings today, and Megan is surprised.
But how do we know that she is surprised, Katie?
Well, she says: But you never wear earrings.
That's right.
And friends, that is our "Use It!" sentence for today.
You never do something.
So why don't we try to use it.
You never go to the market.
You never wear black clothes.
You never read books.
Good job.
Friends, try to say your own "Use It!" sentence.
This is a really good one to know.
We use it a lot.
You never do something.
It is good practice.
Well, friends, we have learned a lot today.
We've learned all about different kinds of beautiful jewelry and what kinds of
jewelry you can wear.
And you know, I noticed something interesting.
Katie, you said the word earring, which is a key word, had two other words in
it:
ear and ring.
But those are both key words, too.
We had one key word with two key words in it.
Why don't we practice our key words now.
Here is the first key word.
ring.
ring.
Look at the pretty ring on Ann's finger.
fall off.
fall off.
My watch is too big.
It falls off.
neck.
neck.
Giraffes have very long necks.
earring.
earring.
Cindy always wears beautiful earrings.
ear.
ear.
What's wrong with my ears? I can't hear!
All right, friends, that was some good key word practice.
Try to say them at home and you will remember them.
We're going to take a short break right now.
But we'll be rightback.
