Hi, friends. Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
You're here on LTE TV, where learning English can be fun.
Hi, everyone. My name is Nathan.
And today we have a topic for you that we started yesterday.
It is ENTERTAINMENT.
And the title of our lesson is: What's Your Favorite Show?
What's Your Favorite Show?
So Katie, what is your favorite show?
Nathan, that's an easy question.
My favorite show is Let's Talk in English.
It's a great show to watch.
Hi, friends. My name is Katie.
I hope you are ready for today's lesson.
But before we can begin, you need to take out your LTE magazine and turn to
today's Let's Begin.
You can read along with Nathan right now.
Let's begin!
There is a new talent show on channel 12.
It is called Dance!
Mark and Susie both watched last night's episode.
All the contestants practice a lot.
Susie likes Dan.
He has great moves.
She votes for him every week by texting.
Mark likes Lisa.
But does he vote for her?
OK, friends, let's find out more in Conversation A.
(Music).
Hi, Mark.
Did you see Dance! on channel 12 last night?
Yes, I did. Susie.
It was a good episode!
I agree! I love talent shows.
Me, too.
Talent shows are never boring.
You're right.
Anyone can enjoy a talent show.
There is something for everyone on the show.
My brother likes it.
My mom likes to watch the show, too.
We talked about lots of different shows yesterday.
But today we are going to talk about talent shows on TV.
Those are very fun. Right, Katie?
Oh, sure. It's... it's cool to see people like you and me show what they can do.
Now this must be a dancing show.
It's called Dance!
Susie asks Mark if he saw it on channel 12.
Well, I'm glad you said that, Katie.
Now we can talk about our first key word today.
channel.
channel.
On TV you can watch different channels with different shows.
And each channel has a number, like channel 65.
It has English movies.
And channel 72 shows sports games.
Most channels have their own name, too.
You might be watching this show on a channel called GOOD TV.
How many channels do you have?
TVs are getting more and more channels... maybe too many.
We don't need hundreds to choose from.
I think you're right, Katie.
Now Mark did watch Dance! on channel 12.
And he says it was a good episode.
Let's look at this key word to see what he means.
episode.
episode.
When you watch a TV show, you are probably watching a new episode of the show.
We have a new episode of Let's Talk in English almost every day.
But some shows have one new episode every week, not every day.
That's right.
So when Mark says it was a good episode, he means that the show was very good
that time.
Some episodes are really good.
Others may not be very interesting.
But our episodes are always good.
Right, Nathan?
Well, of course, because we have so much talent.
And that's our next key word, friends.
talent.
talent.
A talent is just something that you are very good at.
Friends, everyone has talents.
You might be good at playing the piano.
That's a talent.
Or you might be a very good writer.
That's another talent.
But there are other kinds of talent, too.
Yes. Some people can make new friends easily.
Some people know how to fix problems between people.
Those are talents, too.
But the talent Mark and Susie are talking about is dance.
The show is called Dance!
And it is a show where people show their dancing talent.
Susie says anyone can enjoy a talent show.
And that's a "Use it!" sentence for today.
Anyone can (blank), like: Anyone can play this game.
It's more fun with more people.
Or anyone can read this book.
It's very easy.
What else can anyone do, Katie?
What are we all going to do in just a second?
Well, I think anyone can come with us to Conversation B right now.
(Music).
There were a lot of contestants last night.
Yes. They're all so different.
Some are really good.
But some are not so good.
But they all tried their best.
Yes. They must practice a lot!
Who is your favorite contestant?
Dan is my favorite.
Why?
He has great dance moves!
He's handsome, too!
Mark and Susie are talking about contestants on the show Dance!
Contestants are people in a contest where people use their talents to win
something.
Nathan, have you ever been in a contest before?
Oh. Well, I guess I have been in a talent contest.
So I was a contestant in a talent contest.
Now all the contestants on Dance! can dance.
Other talent shows have contestants that sing.
There are many different kinds of contestants.
And some are very good, some are not.
But Mark says they all tried their best.
This is a good phrase to know.
Try your best.
If you try your best, you will work hard to do something well.
You should always try your best at school.
No one can ask you to do more than that.
But if you try your best, you will probably need to practice.
And that's a great key word today.
practice.
practice.
You practice by doing something a lot until you are very good at it.
You can practice your dance moves.
Or you can practice playing baseball.
And we can practice more English in Conversation C right now.
Did you vote for him?
Fans need to vote.
Then Dan can stay on the show.
Yes! I vote for him every week by texting.
Wow. You must really like him!
I do. Who is your favorite?
I like Lisa. She is amazing.
Did you vote for her?
No. I forgot!
Where is my phone?
In Conversation B, Susie said that she really likes Dan on Dance!
So Mark asks, "Did you vote for him?" Let's look at this last key word today.
vote.
vote.
If you vote for something, you choose it because you think it is the best.
We often vote for leaders.
In the United States, we vote for the leader of our country - the president.
There are a few choices.
And we vote for the person who we think is the best.
But you can also use this word for simpler things.
If you are deciding where you want to eat lunch with friends, you can vote on
where to go.
Some people can vote for western food.
Others can vote for Asian food.
If more people vote for Asian food, then the group will eat Asian food.
But how do you vote on talent shows?
Well, there are different phone numbers for each person or contestant on the
show.
You can text the number of the person that you want to win.
Have you done that before, Katie?
Actually, I have not.
But a lot of my friends do when they watch talent shows.
They like to text in.
OK, friends, it's time for us to review our key words right now.
And the first key word for today is...
talent.
talent.
Mike's talent is basketball.
channel.
channel.
Kid Fun is a TV show on channel 3.
episode.
episode.
There are 20 episodes of Dance!
practice.
practice.
He practiced for the contest.
vote.
vote.
Vote for a new president.
Very good, friends.
Please try to remember your key words so that you can use them today.
And now it's time to take a little bit of a break.
Try to practice your key words with a friend while we take abreak.
