Welcome to Let's Talk in English.
It's a great day here at LTE TV.
And we're happy that you joined us.
My name is Katie.
And we have a great lesson for you today.
Today our topic is PEOPLE.
And we have a great lesson called Let's Talk About People.
Let's Talk About People.
So what do you think this lesson will be about, Nathan?
I really don't know.
I guess we're going to talk about people.
Uh, but we'll see.
Hello, everyone. My name is Nathan.
And I am very interested to see what we are really going to talk about today.
Let's look at our Let's Begin in your LTE magazines.
Katie will read along with you right now.
Let's begin!
Mark is doing a good job.
The station's audience likes him.
Mark doesn't like loud people.
Susie doesn't, either.
Sometimes Susie is slow.
But she always finishes her work.
Susie and Mark can eat lunch at Burger Bob's today.
It's a fun place.
The restaurant serves good food.
The owner is proud.
OK, let's talk about some people in Conversation A.
(Music).
Hi, Mark. Did you finish your story?
Yes, Susie.
I'm ready for tomorrow's news program.
You're doing a good job.
Our audience likes you.
How do you know?
I looked at our Facebook page.
Well, I like the station.
Everyone is very nice.
No one is too loud.
There was one loud person.
But he quit last month.
Susie starts Conversation A by asking Mark a question.
She says: Did you finish your story?
And Mark says yes.
He says, "I'm ready for tomorrow's news program." That's our "Use it!" sentence,
isn't it, Katie?
It is, Nathan.
I'm ready for something.
Let's try to use it.
I'm ready for dinner.
Or, I'm ready to go play a game.
I'm ready to watch a movie.
And I'm ready to learn more about Mark and Susie.
Thank you, Nathan.
Susie says that Mark is doing a good job.
That's nice of her.
And Mark says he likes the station.
He says no one is too loud.
And that's an important key word that we need to look at.
loud.
loud.
If someone or something is loud, it makes a lot of noise.
A lot of times we may say that people are loud.
A person is loud if he or she talks a lot or makes a lot of noise.
They are never quiet.
But like Katie said, other things can be loud, too.
A car can be loud, or a scooter.
And you can play your music loudly.
Susie says there was one loud person at the station, but he quit.
Having loud people at work can be hard.
And we'll talk about that in Conversation B right now.
(Music).
I can't work around loud people.
I can't think.
I can't, either.
I am noisy sometimes.
But I'm usually quiet.
I like that.
Work time is for work.
That's right.
Sometimes I am a slow worker.
But I always finish my work.
Me, too. I like a quiet office.
Then I can prepare my stories well.
Mark says, "I can't work around loud people." What he means here is he can't
work when loud people are close to him.
That's right. He says it's hard to think.
And Susie says she can't, either.
That's a key word.
You're right, Katie.
So let's take a look.
either.
either.
You use this word in sentences when you want to say you also do not do
something.
Let's try to use this word.
My sister doesn't like to eat carrots.
I don't like to eat carrots, either.
Or I could say I also don't like to eat carrots.
Here's another example.
Paul doesn't want to go to school today.
Joe doesn't want to, either.
Joe also doesn't want to go to school.
Those are some great examples of the word "either." Now Mark says something
interesting.
He says, "Work time is for work." This is important.
That is important to remember.
Susie says she's a slow worker.
But she always finishes her work.
Let's look at this key word.
slow.
slow.
If something is slow, it is not fast.
Susie says she is a slow worker.
So she does her work slowly.
She does not hurry.
And that's not a bad thing.
Sometimes it's better to be slow because you might be more careful when you
work.
We need to talk slowly sometimes, too, so everyone can understand us.
And Susie says she always gets her work finished.
And that's important.
It doesn't matter how slowly or quickly you do your work, as long as you get it
finished.
Now Mark says that he likes a quiet office.
Nathan, what about you?
Do you like a quiet office or a loud office?
Well, I usually like a quiet office.
But I also like to listen to some music while I work.
So it's good not to have a lot of people talking all the time.
But I also like a little bit of music to listen to.
How about you, Katie?
Well, I guess I like...
When I need to work, I like my office quiet.
But sometimes if I need a small break, I like it when there's noise because I
can go talk to people if I need... maybe some help with my work.
I like both.
But friends, I think that we need to find out more in Conversation C.
So let's go there right now.
(Music).
So are you ready for lunch, Mark?
Sure! Let's go to Burger Bob's again.
OK! It's a fun place.
And I really like the owner.
Yes. He is very friendly.
He serves good food.
So he is very successful!
And he is proud of his restaurant.
Let's go eat now.
Lunchtime is for lunch!
In Conversation C, we find out that it's time for lunch at the station.
Mark and Susie want to go to Burger Bob's again.
Hamburger sounds delicious.
It does.
Remember, Mark gets excited about burgers.
If you remember a few lessons ago, we said that.
Now Susie says that Burger Bob's is a fun place.
I wonder what that means.
Well, we should find out because that is one of our key words.
Let's take a look.
fun.
fun.
If something is fun, you enjoy it.
It makes you happy.
Lots of things are fun.
But people think different things are fun.
I think watching movies is fun.
But I think that reading books is fun.
But some other people may not like to read books.
Now in our conversation, Susie says the burger place is a fun place, and she
likes the owner.
Don't forget, friends.
The owner is the person who owns something.
He owns the restaurant.
Thank you, Nathan. That is true.
And we find out that the owner is successful.
What does the word "successful" mean?
Well, if the owner is successful, it means that he is doing a good job.
His restaurant is making a lot of money so he can stay open.
He is successful.
You're right.
And he says he is proud of the restaurant.
Well, right there is our next key word.
So let's learn about it.
proud.
proud.
If you are proud of something or someone, you feel good about it because that
thing or that person is doing something well.
Now the owner is proud of his restaurant because it is doing well.
You can be proud of the things that you do.
And it's not a bad thing.
It is successful and you're doing a good job.
It's OK to be proud about things like that.
Sometimes I say that I am proud of my country.
I am proud of the United States.
I'm proud that I'm from there because I love my country.
That's another way to use the word.
Or parents often say they are proud of their children.
They love their children.
And they're proud of the things that their kids do in school or at work.
There's one more way to use that word.
And if someone does something well or wins an award, tell that person you are
proud of them.
That's a very good idea, Nathan.
OK friends, now it's time to review our key words.
Let's see how much you have learned.
Here's your first key word.
loud.
loud.
Ted is loud. He is not quiet.
either.
either.
I can't go with you. Tina can't, either.
slow.
slow.
That man is slow. He doesn't move fast.
fun.
fun.
Let's play a fun game.
proud.
proud.
Mary is proud of her son. He's smart.
Good job, friends.
I hope you are proud of the work that you did with us today.
Good job!
Now let's all take a break.
I'm sure you need it.
But comeback!
