Welcome to LTE TV.
My name is Katie.
And I'm glad you could join us for today's review show.
I love the summertime.
It's fun to play outside with your friends.
But sometimes it can be too hot.
That's called a heat wave.
But when it is hot outside, you can find ways to stay cool.
What's one way?
You can go swimming.
Or you can have a pool party.
Well, it's almost time to review this week's conversations.
Make sure you listen carefully so that you can answer our review questions
later.
(Music).
Hey, Susie.
The weather is really hot today.
The temperature is already 100 degrees.
It's not usually so hot here!
We're having a big heart wave.
We are.
I can't walk my dog in this heat.
And I can't exercise at the park.
It's too hot!
Hot weather can be dangerous.
You can get sick.
Let's turn on the air conditioner.
It's already on!
Are you sure?
The air is so hot in here!
Very sure.
The station's air conditioner is very old.
It's working too hard today.
I see.
Give me some paper, please.
Why do you need paper?
I can make a fan.
Do you hear that?
What's that noise?
It sounds bad.
Now I don't hear any noise.
I feel hot. Really hot.
Me, too!
And now I don't feel any cool air!
This is bad.
Oh, no! The air conditioner is broken!
Let's call a repairman.
He can fix it.
I'm calling right now!
Hurry!
Hey, Mark! It's really hot today!
Yeah. It reminds me of home!
That's right! You're from Texas!
It's really hot there!
True. Summer is a very hot season in Texas.
Is it as hot as this?
Usually! But it's a little too hot in here.
The air conditioner is still broken!
The repairman can't come until this afternoon.
Too bad.
How do you keep cool in Texas?
There are lots of ways to stay cool!
Like what?
Well, AC bills aren't cheap!
I use a fan when I can!
You can drink something cold, too!
Right! A tall glass of iced tea tastes great on a hot day!
You can also wear cool clothes, like shorts!
I love to go swimming when the weather is hot.
Swimming sounds great right now.
In Austin, I always went swimming at Barton Springs.
What's that?
It's a natural spring.
Even on the hottest day, the water is always cold!
That sounds perfect!
It's a very popular place in Austin.
Are there any springs around here?
I don't know!
Let's find out.
The air conditioner is working today!
I know! I'm so glad!
Yesterday was not fun.
The office was really hot!
Yes, it was.
The weather was so hot yesterday.
The weather is still really hot today, too.
There isn't a cloud in the sky.
So let's swim after work!
We can keep cool in the pool.
Where can we swim? Union Park?
No. The pool at Union Park is too crowded.
There are a lot of kids there.
True. Then where?
Mark's apartment building has a pool.
We can swim there.
Mark's building has a pool?
Yes! His building is new.
Did Mark invite you to his pool today?
Yes. We can all go!
How nice! We can have a pool party!
Yes! Don't forget your towel!
And my beach ball!
Hey, does Mark's pool have a diving board?
I think so.
Does the pool have a slide?
Maybe not. The pool isn't very large.
Oh. But can I invite a few other friends?
I don't know. Ask Mark!
Thanks for yesterday, Mark!
We had a great time at your pool.
Yes, thanks! Swimming was fun.
No problem!
You guys can come anytime.
Anytime?
Well, just ask me first.
Hey, I'll talk about water parks on tomorrow's show.
We should go to one soon!
Yes! I love water parks!
Is there one near here?
Yes, there is.
It's pretty good!
What's the name of the water park?
Blue Waters.
They have a lot of great water slides.
Some are really high!
Does the park have a wave pool?
Yes! It's fun.
It feels like the ocean!
Is the park crowded?
It's pretty crowded during the summer.
But if you go early in the day, there are fewer people.
I went to a water park in Taiwan once.
People have to wear swim caps there!
Really! You don't have to wear a swim cap at Blue Waters.
Just a swimsuit!
Are there showers at Blue Waters?
Yes. I always shower before I go home.
What about restaurants?
They have some fun ones.
Good! I always feel hungry after I play in the water!
(Music).
Hello, everyone, welcome to Let's Talk!
Well, it's summertime.
And one of my favorite things to do in the summer is to go to water parks.
And today we are going to talk about some great water parks from around the
world.
Please help me welcome my guest, Mr. Slide!
Welcome, Mr. Slide!
Tell us about some of the world's best water parks.
There are many great water parks, Rob.
One of my favorites is Aquatica in Florida.
Why do you like Aquatica?
It has a very special tube slide.
It sends you through an area where a group of dolphins swim!
That is cool!
What's another good park?
There is a new park called Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi.
A water park in the desert?
Yes! Yas Waterworld has over 40 attractions.
One of the rides is shaped like a funnel.
So it's a slide that goes around and around?
That's right. It's very exciting!
Another great park is Tropical Islands in Germany.
That's an indoor park, isn't it?
Yes! This park feels like a tropical island.
Even in the winter!
There are many great water parks around the world.
Mr. Slide tells Rob about his favorites.
At Aquatica in Florida, guests go on a tube slide through a group of dolphins!
Yas Waterworld is a large new water park in the desert of Abu Dhabi.
It has an exciting slide shaped like a funnel.
Tropical Islands is an indoor water park in Germany with many great attractions.
At this park, guests enjoy island sun and fun - even if the weather is cold
outside!
Welcome back, friends.
Did you figure out the answers to the questions I asked you?
Let's talk about the first one.
Hello! Excuse me.
Aren't you going to talk to me first?
Oh, Chris, I'm sorry.
I forgot that you're at the Jungle Cafe on Saturdays.
How could you forget a thing like that?
I'm delightful.
I'm the coolest bird around!
Well, I'm not sure about that.
But OK, we'll go with that.
OK, back to my question.
Wait! Um, tell me your name again.
Ha! So you forgot me.
I'm Katie, remember?
Right, right, right, right. The new LTE teacher.
Right. I'm the new LTE teacher.
OK, let's review now.
Here's the first question.
What is the temperature at the station?
Oh, good question, Katie.
I think I know the answer.
Let's hear it.
It is 100 degrees.
You're right, Chris.
That is hot.
Have you ever been outside when it is that hot?
Oh! Are you kidding me?
Never!
I like to stay inside the Jungle Cafe where it's cool.
There's air conditioning in here.
Have you ever been outside when it's that hot?
Actually, yes.
I'm from Texas.
And in Texas, it gets really hot.
It's often 100 degrees during the summer.
That's when you have to keep cool because you can get sick if it is too hot.
You can keep cool by going swimming, right?
Right! Or by staying near an air conditioner.
But the air conditioner at the station is broken.
But at least they could call a repairman.
Don't you have another question for us, Katie?
Yes, I do.
Here's the next question.
Why is Susie glad?
Ah, great question.
I bet I know why she is glad.
Uh... Oh yes, yes, I do.
Well, can you tell us?
That would be great.
Oh, yes, yes. Yes, I can.
Susie is glad because the air conditioner is working today.
That's important.
That is important.
And they can have a pool party to cool off, too.
That sounds like fun.
Are pool parties fun?
I wouldn't know.
I have never been.
But you can swim, right?
Hello! Of course I can swim!
Is that how you keep cool in the summer?
Of course!
Or I stay inside close to an air conditioner.
Well, you'd better hope that it does not break.
OK, friends, let's take a short break.
We will be right back.
A break.
