Welcome to another fun day on Let's Talk in English.
You are watching LTE TV.
Hello, everyone. My name is Nathan.
And it is very good to be here with you today.
We're still talking about our topic ACTIVITIES.
And today's lesson is called Great Water Parks Around the World.
So Katie, have you ever been to any great water parks?
Well Nathan, that is a great question.
I would love to answer it.
Hi, friends. My name is Katie.
And I have actually been to a few good water parks in the United States.
They're lots of fun because they always have water slides and wave pools.
You can do a lot of swimming in them.
I'm sure we will talk some more about these water parks today.
Let's start with Conversation A.
(Music).
Hello, everyone, welcome to Let's Talk!
Well, it's summertime.
And one of my favorite things to do in the summer is to go to water parks.
And today we are going to talk about some great water parks from around the
world.
Please help me welcome my guest, Mr. Slide!
Welcome, Mr. Slide!
Tell us about some of the world's best water parks.
There are many great water parks, Rob.
One of my favorites is Aquatica in Florida.
Why do you like Aquatica?
It has a very special tube slide.
It sends you through an area where a group of dolphins swim!
That is cool!
What's another good park?
There is a new park called Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi.
Mr. Slide really has some great information about water parks.
It is really interesting.
Today he is talking about some of the world's best water parks.
I know. It's exciting to hear about them.
Mr. Slide says that there are many great water parks.
But he starts with one of his favorite.
It's called...
Whoa, hold on. Wait a minute, Katie.
We need to explain a key word.
This word is...
favorite.
favorite.
The noun "favorite" is something that you like the most.
That singer is one of my favorites.
That means that I like that singer more than almost all other singers.
Or this book is a favorite of mine.
That means I like this book the most.
So you can use the phrase "one of my favorites" or "a favorite of mine".
Mr. Slide could also use "favorite" as an adjective.
That's very common.
One of my favorite parks is Aquatica.
Try to use "favorite" both ways.
Well, one reason that he likes Aquatica is that it has a special tube slide.
Some slides are open at the top.
But tube slides are closed.
I guess this slide must be clear.
It must be clear because it sends you through an area where a group of dolphins
swim.
I've never heard of a slide like that.
But let's look at some more key words.
Here's one.
group.
group.
A group is a few things together.
Most parks have a few groups of trees in them.
And if you're picking fruit off of trees, you probably need to make a group of
good fruit and a group of bad fruit.
People are also often put into groups.
A teacher sometimes ask students to get into groups to make teams.
But Mr. Slide is talking about a group of dolphins.
What are those?
Well, that's another key word.
dolphin.
dolphin.
A dolphin is an animal that lives in the ocean.
And they are usually gray.
And they are known to be smart and friendly.
Nathan, did you know that dolphins are in the same animal group as whales?
Really! Well, they're much smaller than whales.
But I guess they look a little similar.
But they have a long nose.
Most whales don't have that.
That's true. Dolphins do have a long nose.
And actually, if you ever go swimming with dolphins, you can kiss the dolphin's
nose.
Now it would be cool to see dolphins on a slide.
But we have another water park in Abu Dhabi to talk about.
It's called Yas Waterworld.
I think we should go to Conversation B and see what makes this place great.
(Music).
A water park in the desert?
Yes! Yas Waterworld has over 40 attractions.
One of the rides is shaped like a funnel.
So it's a slide that goes around and around?
That's right. It's very exciting!
Another great park is Tropical Islands in Germany.
That's an indoor park, isn't it?
Yes! This park feels like a tropical island.
Even in the winter!
If you know much about Abu Dhabi, you know that it is in the desert.
That's why Rob says, "A water park in the desert?" Such a dry place seems like a
strange area to have a water park.
But Abu Dhabi not only has a water park, it has a big water park!
It has over 40 attractions.
One of the rides is shaped like a funnel.
That's a "Use it!" sentence.
But let's look at a key word before we use it.
shape.
shape.
If you shape something, you make it look like something.
When we use shape as a verb, we often say "shaped." This sentence says, "shaped
like a funnel." So the ride looks like a funnel.
You can say "shaped like a (blank)" or that "something is (blank) shaped".
Now let's use our "Use it!" sentence.
One of the (blank) is shaped like a (blank).
One of the clouds is shaped like a dog.
One of the buildings is shaped like a ball.
Friends, you can try to use it, too.
Now Mr. Slide says the funnel slide is exciting.
And I agree.
I've been on one.
But now he wants to talk about the German water park called Tropical Islands.
It's an indoor water park.
And that's our last key word.
Let's take a look.
indoor.
indoor.
This word just means inside a building.
Tropical Islands is a water park that is inside of a building.
Wow! Indoor islands?
That's... that's pretty cool.
But friends, if you are students, does your school have an indoor basketball
court?
Some schools do.
Some people like to play indoor soccer.
You usually play soccer outside.
But indoor soccer is getting more popular.
And if you go to the gym, you can play a lot of sports indoor.
That's a good place to spend some time indoors.
Well friends, now it's time for some more fun.
So let's go to our Read It.
(Music).
There are many great water parks around the world.
Mr. Slide tells Rob about his favorites.
At Aquatica in Florida, guests go on a tube slide through a group of dolphins!
Yas Waterworld is a large new water park in the desert of Abu Dhabi.
It has an exciting slide shaped like a funnel.
Tropical Islands is an indoor water park in Germany with many great attractions.
At this park, guests enjoy island sun and fun - even if the weather is cold
outside!
That was a fun Read It.
Let's talk about a few phrases and words.
First, we read that guests go on a tube slide.
It is common to use the phrase "go on," which just means to do something that
you should enjoy.
You can go on a slide.
Or you can say go on a ride, like a roller coaster.
You can also go on vacation or go on a trip.
I'm sure you can find a way to use this little phrase, too.
We also want to show you another way to use one of your key words.
And that word is "indoor." One way to use the word is like this:
We swam at an indoor swimming pool.
"Indoor" is an adjective here.
Now if you add an "s" to the end of "indoor," it can be used as an adverb, like
this:
We went swimming indoors.
"Indoor" describes a noun, and... but "indoors" describes a verb.
Another example: We played on the indoor basketball court.
The game was played indoors.
But now let's review today's key words together.
Here is your first key word.
favorite.
favorite.
This movie is a favorite of mine.
group.
group.
There is a group of students outside.
dolphin.
dolphin.
Dolphins are smart animals.
shape.
shape.
This pizza is shaped like a heart!
indoor.
indoor.
Our hotel has an indoor pool.
Good job, friends.
That was some great practice with your key words.
Keep saying them on your own.
We have a lot more to do in this lesson.
So don't go away.
But for right now, we're going to take a shortbreak.
