Welcome back to Let's Talk in English.
Thank you for joining us here at LTE TV.
My name is Katie.
And I hope that you are excited about today's lesson because I know that we are.
Today our topic is still ACTIVITES.
And we have part two of our lesson, Let's Swim!
Let's Swim!
That's something fun to do.
Where do you like to swim, Nathan?
Well, my favorite place to swim is in the ocean.
I think we're going to learn more about that word later.
My name is Nathan.
I'm glad to see you all today.
Now it is the time of our show where we need to read our Let's Begin.
Katie will read with you right now.
And you can look in your LTE magazine to read with her.
Let's begin!
Rob, Ken and Mark talk about a water park.
It's called Blue Waters and it's pretty good.
It has some high water slides.
Blue Waters also has a wave pool.
It feels like the ocean!
You don't need a swim cap.
Just wear a swimsuit!
There are showers at the water park.
Well, this lesson sounds really fun.
Let's start into Conversation A.
(Music).
Thanks for yesterday, Mark!
We had a great time at your pool.
Yes, thanks! Swimming was fun.
No problem!
You guys can come anytime.
Anytime?
Well, just ask me first.
Hey, I'll talk about water parks on tomorrow's show.
We should go to one soon!
Yes! I love water parks!
Is there one near here?
Yes, there is. It's pretty good!
Yesterday we talked about pool parties.
Those are fun.
But today we're talking about water parks.
Those are really fun!
Now Katie, I have a question.
Why does Rob say, "Thanks for yesterday"?
Yesterday doesn't belong to Mark.
Well, it might seem strange to thank someone for a day or a time.
But we do it a lot.
If you helped me with something on Monday, I could say: Thanks for Monday,
Nathan.
OK. Now friends, Mark says they can come out to his pool anytime.
But Rob has another idea.
Yes. He says they should go to a water park because he will talk about them on
his show tomorrow.
Ken says that the water park near them is pretty good.
Well, thanks for saying today's first key word, Nathan.
Let's look at it.
pretty.
pretty.
If something is pretty good, it's not very good, but it's not bad.
Sometimes I go outside and say it's pretty hot.
It's not very hot. But it's still hot.
Right now it's pretty late.
So we need to go to Conversation B.
(Music).
What's the name of the water park?
Blue Waters.
They have a lot of great water slides.
Some are really high!
Does the park have a wave pool?
Yes! It's fun. It feels like the ocean!
Is the park crowded?
It's pretty crowded during the summer.
But if you go early in the day, there are fewer people.
If you don't know what a water park is, we're going to talk about a few things
that you can find there.
The water park near LTE TV is called Blue Waters.
And at Blue Waters, they have water slides.
Water moves down these slides and pushes you down it quickly.
Ken says that some are really high.
And that's another key word today.
high.
high.
If something is high, it is very tall or far above us.
A high water slide is very tall.
But you ride it from the top all the way to the bottom, where you fall into a
pool of water.
But if a bird is flying very high, it is not tall.
It is far up in the sky.
So friends, if I'm talking about a high mountain, is it tall or far above?
That's right, it's tall.
Now Rob asks if the park has a wave pool.
Let's talk about another key word now.
wave.
wave.
If you have been to the beach, I am sure you have seen some waves.
When the water comes up like a hill in the sea, it is called a wave.
If a wave is big enough, they will be white on the top.
A wave pool at a water park makes its own waves with machines.
But I like waves at the ocean much more.
It's my favorite place to swim, remember?
We should probably talk more about this word because it's a key word.
ocean.
ocean.
The ocean is the biggest area of water on Earth.
There is one big ocean between us and the United States.
It is called the Pacific Ocean.
There are a few other oceans, too.
Have you ever swum in the Pacific Ocean, Katie?
Well yes, I have.
I've been to the beach here a few times.
And that is the Pacific Ocean.
Swimming in the ocean is a lot of fun.
So I can see why you like it so much.
But if you are at a beach, you can always call the water that you see "the
ocean." You cannot call lakes and rivers part of the ocean, though.
Oh, look! Ken says the park is pretty crowded during the summer.
He used our key word "pretty" again.
He means that the park is crowded, but it's not so crowded that you don't want
to go there.
That is a very useful word for you... for you to know, so try to use it on your
own.
Let's learn some more useful things in Conversation C.
(Music).
I went to a water park in Taiwan once.
People have to wear swim caps there!
Really! You don't have to wear a swim cap at Blue Waters.
Just a swimsuit!
Are there showers at Blue Waters?
Yes. I always shower before I go home.
What about restaurants?
They have some fun ones.
Good! I always feel hungry after I play in the water!
Our friends at LTE TV talk about a few convenient things at the water park.
But Rob says something different and interesting first.
Yes. There are some differences between water parks in Taiwan and in the United
States.
People have to wear swim caps in Taiwan.
Swim caps are those tight hats that you use to cover your hair.
But people don't wear swim caps in the United States.
Ken says you just need to wear a swimsuit.
That's a key word.
swimsuit.
swimsuit.
This is the suit that you wear when you go swimming.
You can use this word for what men or women wear when they swim, even though
they are very different.
When you go somewhere for summer vacation, you should probably pack your
swimsuit.
You might have a chance to go swimming.
That is a very good idea.
Always remember to pack your swimsuit.
Ken says there are also showers at Blue Waters.
That's one convenient thing for visitors to use there.
And it's a key word today.
shower.
shower.
This is a small space where you can wash yourself.
In the shower, water comes out of a shower head above you.
Now most water parks have many showers for people to use.
Gyms usually also have showers.
You might even have showers at your school.
And I know one other place that you have a shower.
Most people have a shower at their home in their bathroom because we shower
every day.
And I just used the word "shower" as a verb.
You can use it as a verb and a noun.
Just look at today's "Use it!" sentence.
Ken says: I always shower before I go home.
I always do something before I do something else.
I always read before I go to sleep.
And I always pray before I eat.
Good sentences, Nathan.
And I always practice my key words before I take a break.
Are you ready, Nathan?
Ready.
Let's go.
pretty.
pretty.
This place is pretty noisy!
high.
high.
That building is very high.
wave.
wave.
Be careful when you play in the waves.
ocean.
ocean.
Many fish live in the ocean.
swimsuit.
swimsuit.
Wear your swimsuit to the beach.
shower.
shower.
We have two showers in our apartment.
Good job, friends.
That was some great practice with your key words.
Keep saying them at home, and your English will get so much better.
We're going to take a short break now.
But we'll be right back.
Don't goaway.
